A wealthy businessman decides to invest ₹2,000 crore in making a flop film to evade taxes by showing massive losses. His manager (Johny Lever) and daughter (Jacqueline Fernandez) sign a washed-up Bhojpuri film hero (Akshay Kumar) and his ex-girlfriend (Disha Patani) for the project. Two goons (Suniel Shetty and Arshad Warsi), who are descendants of Majnu and Uday Shetty from the previous Welcome films, force their way into the movie. The director duo (Paresh Rawal and Rajpal Yadav) takes the entire unit into a jungle for the shoot, where they encounter a real-life threat from a terrorist (Jackie Shroff) and his gang. How they complete the ‘shoot’ while escaping real ‘shooting’ forms the crux of the story.

The Welcome franchise has always relied on madcap comedy, and this third installment carries that legacy forward. The screenplay moves at a brisk pace, which is the film’s biggest strength. Although the runtime is a bit long, many of the one-liners land well and evoke genuine laughter. The director has managed the enormous ensemble cast efficiently, ensuring that each of the 28 actors gets a moment to shine.

The production values are lavish, and the cinematography beautifully captures the lush surroundings while enhancing the glamour of the leading ladies. The music is good, with the remixed version of “Uncha Lamba Kad” standing out. A novel idea introduced by the director is placing a romantic song at the interval. The song is a highlight and may even lead to a decline in popcorn sales during the interval!

Akshay Kumar once again nails his character, and his impeccable comic timing significantly elevates the narrative. His action sequences, especially the helicopter scenes, are particularly impressive. Disha Patani and Jacqueline Fernandez look stunning and deliver decent performances. Farida Jalal is outstanding in the film. Suniel Shetty, Rajpal Yadav, Johny Lever, Arshad Warsi, Aftab Shivdasani, Raveena Tandon, and Tusshar Kapoor provide solid support, making the film immensely entertaining.

Overall, Welcome To The Jungle is an enjoyable entertainer—as long as you leave your logical brain at home.

Addressing entrepreneurs, investors and startup founders at the event themed ‘Compounding Bharat: Innovation Multiplied by Entrepreneurship’, Chauhan said, “public markets provide growth capital, improve governance standards, enhance credibility and help companies attract top talent while allowing promoters to retain control of their businesses.”

The keynote comes days after the NSE filed its draft prospectus for one of India’s largest ever public offerings, a listing nearly a decade in the making.

Chauhan said, “public listing lets founders raise growth capital without surrendering control, noting that a promoter can offer 25 per cent of equity to the market at the outset, retain 75 per cent and dilute further only as the business requires.”

“When you list, you keep 75 per cent with yourself and offer 25 per cent to the market in the beginning. You can give more later. Control stays with you,” he said.

He said, “the public markets reward profitable businesses with a valuation that private balance sheets cannot match. A company earning an annual profit of Rs 2 crore, he said, could command a market capitalisation of Rs 40 to 50 crore once listed, giving the promoter room to raise capital, bring in partners and expand operations.”

Listing also gives a company its own currency, Chauhan said. “A listed promoter can use stock to acquire other businesses, draw in partners and reward staff through stock options, he said, citing the early use of employee stock options at Infosys by N R Narayana Murthy and Nandan Nilekani to attract talent the company could not otherwise have hired.”

He said, “listing strengthens governance and credibility, brings analyst coverage, eases access to bank finance and supports orderly succession by making it simpler to divide assets among heirs.” Compliance, he added, was lighter than commonly assumed and was routinely handled by a company secretary.”

Addressing the concern that listing exposes founders to hostile takeover, Chauhan said control stayed with the promoter and that no change of ownership could occur against a founder’s wishes.

On share price, he cautioned founders against chasing artificial trading volumes or mistaking the stock price for the business itself.

“Your business is in your operations, not in the share price. The stock market is only a reflection of your business, it is not the business itself,” he said, adding that share prices would follow sustained growth in profit and that founders should direct their energy towards operations rather than short term price movements.

“On liquidity in the small and medium enterprise segment, Chauhan said generating trading volume was not the company’s responsibility and pointed to the market maker mechanism, under which two way quotes are provided for three years. Companies on NSE’s SME platform, launched in 2012, had collectively raised more than Rs 21,700 crore and held a combined market capitalisation of more than Rs 2 lakh crore”, he said.

He acknowledged that SME business models carried higher risk than those of larger main board companies, but said investors in the segment understood the risk reward trade off and that well run SME companies could scale quickly.

“If you are doing a business of Rs 10 crore or Rs 20 crore, you should be planning for Rs 200 crore and beyond,” he said.

JIIF chairman Jeenendra Bhandari said, ” Over the last nine years, JIIF has evolved from an idea into one of the community’s most impactful entrepreneurship and innovation platforms. Over the past two years, we have successfully completed four incubation cohorts, facilitated over Rs 60 crore in startup investments, built a network of more than 20 ecosystem partners and collaborated with over 30 national and regional organisations.”

Bhandari said, “the foundation had secured a Rs 5 crore MSInS grant and a Rs 2 crore SISFS grant, while its startups had achieved three full and three partial investment successes. He said initiatives such as four editions of its flagship investor engagement platforms and the launch of a 5,000 sq ft incubation centre in Mumbai continued to strengthen the innovation ecosystem.”

Anil is hopeful that Alpha will find its takers because people now want to see new experiences in theatres and Alpha will deliver that in spades with two girls headlining an action film!

Tell us about your background and journey in films.

Khetarpal: I have been associated with the entertainment industry for over two decades. One of my most significant projects was Sai Baba, an iconic film that received the prestigious National Integration Award at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The film featured over 160 artists, including Dharmendra and Shammi Kapoor. Since then, I have produced thousands of hours of Sai Baba-related content that has been telecast worldwide. My recent work focuses on socially relevant cinema that promotes awareness, compassion, and positive change.

What is your new film about?

Khetarpal: The film is inspired by true events and highlights the lives and struggles of the transgender community. During the COVID-19 pandemic, many members of this community contributed to society by making masks when livelihoods were disrupted. The story follows an individual’s journey of self-discovery, acceptance, and belonging. Above all, the film seeks to foster empathy and dignity for transgender people and advocates for their rightful place in society.

What did your research reveal about the transgender community?

Khetarpal: I discovered that society often misunderstands them. Beneath the stereotypes are people capable of immense love, loyalty, and compassion. If treated with respect, they respond with genuine affection. The film attempts to present this human side, which is rarely seen.

How is this film different from previous films on the subject?

Khetarpal: Rather than portraying stereotypes, the film explores the emotional and spiritual realities of transgender lives. It focuses on acceptance, blessings, family traditions, and the deep cultural respect historically accorded to them. It is a story about humanity and inclusion.

Was it difficult playing a character inspired by your real-life work?

Khetarpal: Not particularly. Acting always requires preparation, but since the role reflects many of my real-life experiences, it felt natural. However, every performance demands discipline and sincerity.

There have been controversies regarding Sai Baba’s identity. What is your view?

Khetarpal: I have always chosen to focus on Sai Baba’s teachings rather than controversies. For over twenty-five years, my effort has been to spread his message of love, unity, and faith. My work has never been about personal recognition but about serving a larger purpose.

What motivates your social and spiritual work?

Khetarpal: I believe I was guided toward this path. Like everyone else, I once pursued worldly ambitions, but life eventually led me toward service. The success of my Sai Baba projects reinforced my belief that when one’s intentions are pure, the right opportunities follow.

Why did you refuse offers to portray Sai Baba on screen?

Khetarpal: I see myself as a narrator and messenger, not as Sai Baba. It is important to preserve history and maintain clarity about one’s role. I have always preferred to share his message rather than portray him.

What would you like audiences to take away from this film?

Khetarpal: This is a film of awakening. If it inspires even a few people to become more compassionate and understanding, it will have achieved its purpose. Cinema has the power to touch hearts and transform perspectives, and that is the impact we hope to create.

Keerti Kadam: Despite witnessing numerous highs and lows in your career, you have remained grounded. What is the secret behind it?

Akshay Kumar: There is no great secret. We are here to work, do our job sincerely, and return home. If a film fails, there is little point dwelling on it. Instead, one should analyse what went wrong and learn from it. Life is full of ups and downs, but the key is to keep moving forward. There is an old saying: when a storm arrives, keep your head down, and even after it passes, keep your head down. Humility and patience keep you focused and protected.

Keerti Kadam: You complete several films every year. Where do you derive such discipline and energy from?

Akshay Kumar: Discipline has become an integral part of my personality. For the past 36 years, I have followed the same routine. Growing up, I watched my father wake up early every day, work hard, and return home in the evening. From him, I learned the values of hard work and consistency. Success is not about one extraordinary achievement; it is about showing up every day and doing your work honestly.

Keerti Kadam: Comedy is often considered the most difficult genre of acting. Do you agree?

Akshay Kumar: Absolutely. Making someone emotional is comparatively easier because the story and circumstances support you. Making people laugh, however, is a true challenge. Comedy demands impeccable timing, observation, and an understanding of human behaviour. Unfortunately, comic performances do not always receive the recognition they deserve. Making people laugh is one of the finest forms of art.

Keerti Kadam: You are known for your disciplined lifestyle and early mornings. How do you manage night shoots?

Akshay Kumar: Night shoots are completely different from my usual routine. I prefer starting early and finishing work by evening. However, filmmaking requires flexibility. When night shoots are necessary, I adjust my schedule accordingly and ensure I get sufficient rest and recovery. Ultimately, the film’s requirements come first, and one must do whatever is needed to achieve the best result.

Keerti Kadam: Audiences will once again see you alongside Johny Lever. What can they expect?

Akshay Kumar: Johny Lever and I share a long professional association. We have worked together in several films and enjoyed tremendous chemistry on screen. In Welcome To The Jungle, audiences will experience both nostalgia and fresh entertainment. The film offers comedy, adventure, action, and emotional moments, making it a complete family entertainer.

Keerti Kadam: Actors from the Bhojpuri film industry are increasingly finding opportunities in mainstream Bollywood. How do you view this trend?

Akshay Kumar: An artist should be judged by talent, dedication, and hard work, not by language or region. India is blessed with diverse film industries, each contributing exceptional talent. I do not believe Bhojpuri actors should be viewed differently. Today, audiences appreciate quality performances, and talent transcends all linguistic boundaries.

Keerti Kadam: In Welcome To The Jungle, you portray a Bhojpuri actor. How was your experience with the language and culture?

Akshay Kumar: It was an enjoyable and fascinating experience. One of the film’s most memorable dialogues is, “Bhojpuri is better than Hollywood.” I play a Bhojpuri actor who gets an opportunity in Hindi cinema, leading to a series of amusing situations. Bhojpuri cinema has a rich cultural heritage and a massive audience. Since Bhojpuri and Hindi share many similarities, learning the language was not particularly difficult. However, every language has its own rhythm and flavour, and I made a conscious effort to capture that authenticity.

Keerti Kadam: As both an actor and producer, how important is it to balance entertainment with social messaging?

Akshay Kumar: That balance is extremely important. Cinema is primarily a medium of entertainment. Audiences come to theatres to experience stories and emotions. If a film focuses only on delivering a message, it risks becoming a documentary. Social themes become impactful when they are woven into compelling stories filled with drama, humour, and emotional engagement. The ideal Indian film is one that successfully combines entertainment with meaningful content.

Keerti Kadam: Your fitness and lifestyle inspire millions. How do you maintain physical and mental well-being?

Akshay Kumar: Physical fitness comes from regular exercise, proper nutrition, adequate rest, and discipline. There are no shortcuts; consistency is the key. Mental fitness, on the other hand, comes from simplicity, gratitude, and a positive outlook on life. I believe in staying connected to my roots, treating people with respect, and living honestly. Happiness is not dependent on wealth or success. We were happy when we had very little, and we are happy today. True peace comes from gratitude, simplicity, and maintaining balance in life.
