Producer Maansi Guptey is expanding her production portfolio with Rani Drycleanerss, an upcoming social drama featuring Panchayat breakout star Ashok Pathak in his first leading role in a Hindi feature film. Helmed by director Sagar Kumar Sharma and produced alongside Anish Kumar and Dushyant Sand under Yantra Pictures and Globots Entertainment, the film recently wrapped a start-to-finish shooting schedule against the backdrop of Uttarakhand.

The title Rani Drycleanerss marks an intriguing introduction to a film that promises to explore its social-drama narrative through a rooted and character-driven lens. While the makers are keeping the storyline and release details under wraps, the film is expected to arrive in cinemas later this year.

Speaking exclusively about the title, producer Maansi Guptey says, “Rani Drycleanerss is a very special film for me. The title itself has a certain simplicity and curiosity to it, and as the audience discovers the world of the film, I believe they will understand why it felt like the perfect title for our story.”

Ashok Pathak, who earned widespread recognition for his portrayal of Binod in Panchayat, takes on a new character in the film. The project also features Monica Chaudhary, known for Apharan and Dark 7 White, in a pivotal role.

The film also boasts a strong musical line-up, with acclaimed singers Rekha Bhardwaj, Javed Ali, Nakash Aziz and Kailash Kher lending their voices to songs featured in the film.

For Maansi, Rani Drycleanerss marks another step forward in a production journey that has already seen her back projects across multiple languages. She previously ventured into Marathi cinema with the 2024 drama Colorphool, which starred Sai Tamhankar and Lalit Prabhakar. Prior to that, she co-produced the Punjabi film Jugni Yaaran Di (2019) and the short films Painful Pride (2019) and Main Tumhara (2021).

With Rani Drycleanerss now in post-production, the makers are expected to reveal further details about the film, including its release plans, in the coming months.

Initially planning a relaxing holiday to Goa with his best friend (Maniesh Paul), Rishi changes his plans due to an ancestral land dispute and the realization that resolving it might help secure funds for IVF treatment and baby. For Rishi, as a practical engineer, the call to Devanchal is purely about settling the land matter. However, for Mamta, it is a spiritual bulava (divine calling) to perform Chhath Puja in his native land. Beneath the surface, Rishi is deeply hurt by the goddess Van Devi for something that happened, causing a rift in his faith. The land borders a sacred, mysterious forest governed by the rule that no one can go there after sunset. Once they arrive in Devanchal, the sacred traditions collide with his hidden bitterness, and when the rule is broken, the mystery and ancient chaos begin to unfold.

What truly elevates the film’s narrative is its fantastic balance of tone—blending eerie supernatural tension with a great mixture of comedy that feels entirely natural to the village setting. Sidharth Malhotra delivers an impressive performance, playing Rishi with solid physical energy, charm, and conviction. Together with Tamannaah Bhatia’s heartfelt presence, the first half builds great drama, strong emotions, rich cultural texture, and laugh-out-loud moments, keeping you completely on a cliffhanger by the interval. Sunil Grover is fantastic in a layered, intense turn as the antagonist, while Maniesh Paul and Sulabha Arya add wonderful warmth, sharp banter, and effortless comedic timing to the village setup.

While the second half feels a bit flat as it stretches into the climax, with the director losing focus slightly, the core mystery, emotional stakes, and lighthearted humor hold the film together. The narrative expands into grand supernatural elements, and despite the slight pacing wobble near the end, the ambition, unique setting, and powerful performances keep you thoroughly engaged. Ultimately, The Vvaan begins as a rooted, exciting folk mystery and holds up as a solid, entertaining theatrical experience.
