Ahead of its release, Rajkumar Hirani opened up about the fascinating journey behind bringing Pritam aur Pedro to the screen during the show’s trailer launch. He revealed that the idea originated during the COVID-19 lockdown after he received a call from the Mumbai Cyber Cell to make a film on cybercrime. What began as a conversation eventually evolved into an entirely new story, paving the way for Pritam aur Pedro.

Rajkumar shared, “During the COVID period, I received a call from the head of the Mumbai Cyber ​​Cell about making a film on cybercrime, but no one was actively working on the subject. I asked them to share the concept, saying I could develop it from home. In the process, I connected with Amit Dubey, who gave me a book of his short stories, a collection that included several ideas suitable for short films.”

He added, “While reading them, I felt that one of these stories could be expanded into a larger, multi-layered narrative. A few days later, during a Zoom call, I explained that the story I wanted to create wasn’t one of the existing ones, but a completely new story altogether. I was given the opportunity to develop it in my own way, and that is how the journey of Pritam Pedro began.

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Avinash Arun, the series is created and produced by Rajkumar Hirani, marking his first step into the streaming space. Pritam and Pedro will stream from 3rd July, only on JioHotstar.

A similar theme is explored in Maa Behen, albeit with a generous dose of humour and a murder mystery twist. Rekha (#MadhuriDixit), who lost her husband at the age of 25, lives alone in a housing colony where she is looked down upon by neighbours simply because she continues to wear sleeveless blouses. Her elder daughter, Jaya (#TriptiiDimri), is trapped in a suffocating patriarchal household, while her younger daughter from another marriage, Sushma (#DharnaDurga), finds herself caught in the confusing web of internet culture, uncertain about her future.

The mother and daughters share a strained relationship due to misunderstandings and their individual struggles. One night, Rekha urgently summons both daughters to her home after discovering the dead body of her neighbour Gupta (Ravi Kishan) in her bedroom. Gupta’s disappearance has already created panic in his household, especially as his daughter is about to get married, leaving his wife (Geetanjali Kulkarni) deeply distressed. As the trio attempts to dispose of the body, they discover that Gupta is actually alive. What follows is a series of chaotic and hilarious events as the women try to avoid blame and the wrath of their judgmental surroundings.

The story is refreshingly novel and bold—though not in the conventional adult-content sense. Director Suresh Triveni, known for films like Tumhari Sulu and Jalsa, crafts an engaging narrative by blending humour with a subtle commentary on the challenges faced by women who are often misunderstood and judged by society. The film is packed with witty dialogues and clever situational comedy. The production values are impressive, while the technical aspects, including cinematography and music, complement the storytelling effectively.

Madhuri Dixit shines in a role that allows her to display grace, charisma, defiance, and vulnerability with equal ease. She convincingly portrays the character across different stages of life and makes excellent use of her impeccable comic timing. Triptii Dimri continues to evolve as an actor and delivers a commendable performance, particularly in a powerful monologue where she confronts her husband. Geetanjali Kulkarni is outstanding as Mrs. Gupta. Her character is sharply written, and she delivers a remarkable performance that significantly strengthens the film. Ravi Kishan, Dharna Durga, and the rest of the supporting cast provide solid support.

Maa Behen scores highly with its out-of-the-box story, engaging humour, and excellent performances, making it an entertaining watch with a meaningful social message.

After admiring the actress from afar, Triptii witnessed an even more beautiful side of Madhuri Dixit while working with her in Maa Behen. “I think there’s so much that I’ve learned from ma’am because growing up, you’ve always seen her from a distance and admired her. But when you get to know her as a person, there’s a completely different, very beautiful side to her,” she shared and continued to praise Madhuri’s generosity. “I want to be like her. Even if I become a big star of her stature, these are the qualities I would want in me – the humbleness, the kindness, the giving nature. No insecurities, nothing. She is like a zen person, on set and off set,” she shared.

“Whatever you give out always comes back tenfolds,” she shared while speaking about Madhuri’s enduring popularity across generations. “I’m a true believer of that. And I think this is a pure example of that in front of us. This is why she’s so loved by all generations,” she added.

Madhuri Dixit, when asked about how she would like her admirers to remember her after decades of winning hearts, said, “I want people to remember me by how I made them feel.”

The Dhak Dhak girl also shared her thoughts on what makes a relationship last in today’s world. “I think mutual respect and taking pride in each other’s wins and being there for each other in your losses. There should be respect, love and everything should be there, but I think you should always be together in your goals and make sure that your kids and family are always taken care of, and you’re there for each other as well,” she said.

Triptii also echoed the same emotion and commented, “I think friendship is very, very essential because love as a feeling can fade after a point, but friendship and respect and just being there for each other in difficult times is important. Life is not always in one line; there are ups and downs. You can’t just be there for the good times. You have to be equally there for the bad times,” she said.

She further added, “Consistency is very important. Not taking each other for granted is something we should always keep in mind.”

Madhuri also opened up about the evolution of industry, and looked back at the era when actors worked double shifts. “I think it’s much more organised now. When we do a project, it has a fixed number of days and you know where you’re going to shoot and what you’re going to do. Then you can plan your own life as well,” she explained.

Recalling her years in the industry, she shared, “We used to do double shifts for two different films. We’d shoot from 9 to 6 for one person and then continue for another film till late at night. Today, we shoot for just one movie and are completely present for it. That’s all we’re doing for the next 30 or 40 days.”
