Drishyam 2 begins where the first part had ended. The opening scene itself sets the tone of the film and with a glimpse of Vijay Salgaonkar (Ajay Devgn) starts the narration. Sameer Deshmukh, who is a son of a former IG Meera Deshmukh (Tabu) and Mahesh Deshmukh (Rajat Kapoor), is missing (in the first half) and this time around police restarts the investigations and their main suspect is Vijay Salgaonkar.

After a lapse of seven years Vijay is an owner of a cinema theatre and wants to produce a film on the said case. He actually has written a book with the help of a writer Murad Ali (Saurabh Shukla) wherein the accidental death of Sameer and the subsequent incidents are mentioned in detail. His wife Nandini (Shriya Saran), daughter Anju (Ishita Dutta) has turned epileptic due to facing the traumatic situations and younger daughter Anu (Mrunal Jadhav) is a teenager now. Each member of the Salgaonkar family is under stress but lead a casual life. But in comes a new IG of police, Goa, Mr Tarun Ahlawat (Akshay Khanna) and there are indications that he’ll solve the case and arrest Mr Salgaonkar. Sameer’s accidental death/murder forms the crux of the sequel too.

Drishyam 2 scores in scripting as when a situation is facing dead end, the writers bounce back with interesting twist with multiple threads. ‘Picture ke end mein hero jail nahi jana chahiye’ is a dialogue in the film and the screenplay of the movie does justice to it. Though the first half may seem slow, the second half is more gripping and gathers the steam at the right time. Debutant director Abhishek Pathak has done a good job and he keeps audience on the edge of the seat. The first part had an original plot and the second part is equally good. The story is unpredictable which adds to the entertainment quotient. Music is good and background score by Rockstar DSP (Devi Sri Prasad of Pushpa fame) adds to the drama on screen. Cinematography is excellent and the production values are high.

Ajay Devgn is excellent, as usual, and dishes out a responsible and captivating performance with multiple emotions. His portrayal of a common man with a razor sharp mind elevates the film. Akshay Khanna as an IG delivers a stylish yet believable performance. Tabu shows her prowess as an actor in a limited screen time. Shriya Saran looks beautiful and emotes well. Ishita Dutta, Mrunal jadhav, Rajat Kapoor, Saurabh Shukla, Neha Joshi lend good support. Kamlesh Sawant scores brownie points with his rowdy performance.

Drishyam 2 is a very good suspense thriller and with ample twists and turns makes an interesting watch.

Uunchai is a story of four young at heart senior citizens. Amit Srivastava (Amitabh Bachchan), Om Sharma (Anupam Kher), Javed Siddiqui (Boman Irani) and Bhupen (Danny Dengzongpa) assemble to celebrate Bhupen’s birthday at Delhi Club. Bhupen hails from Everest region and eggs other three to join an expedition to EBC (Everest Base Camp). He maintains that Everest offer solutions to all the life-problems. Except Amit others are reluctant. Unfortunately Bhupen dies unexpectedly and the other three decide to fulfil his wish of visiting the Mount Everest, despite personal drawbacks. They undergo basic training and join a group of youngsters at Kathmandu. Shraddha Gupta (Parineeti Chopra) is their guide and after predictable obstacles they start their trek to EBC. In the meanwhile Javed’s wife Shabina (Neena Gupta) tours with them first at Lucknow and then Gorakhpur. They get one more visitor Mala Trivedi (Sarika) who too wants to visit EBC. This simple trek turns out to be a personal, emotional and spiritual journey for everyone as they battle their physical limitations and discover the true meaning of freedom.

The screenplay is stretched a lot which depicts every incident in detail. Though predictable, each main character has a back story to evoke emotional entanglements. But the sincerity of the director is visible where he doesn’t give undue importance to any character, even Mr Big B’s. This simple story is told in a simpler way and a lot of philosophical learnings await the viewers. Major flaw in the screenplay is Amit Not carrying sufficient medicines with him. Also despite being aware of unpredictable weather, no one has protection for rains. Cinematography (Manoj Kumar Khatoi) is excellent and one can feel the chill while sitting in the theatre. Another plus is it’s music. Rajshri has always been known for super music. Amit Trivedi’s music score is laudable. Keti Ko and Ladki Pahadi stand out and compliment the situations.

Uunchai scores heavily in acting department. Amitabh Bachchan, Anupam Kher, Boman Irani, Neena Gupta, Sarika and Danny Dengzongpa are all seasoned actors and they deliver fabulously. Parineeti Chopra too does well in a couple of scenes. Cameos by Nafisa Ali Sodhi and Raju Kher are good. In Danny and Sarika’s back story the makers should have roped in their wards (Akshara Hasan and Rinzing Dengzongpa) which could have added to the entertainment quotient.

Sherdil Shergill ‘Major’ (Siddhant Chaturvedi) and Galileo Parthasarathy ‘Gullu’ (Ishaan Khattar) are two good for nothing youngsters on which their parents have given up. Right from their childhood they have grown up obsessed with ghosts and ghouls. One is from Punjab and the other from Tamil Nadu who have come together to become ghost busters aka bhoot busters. In comes Ragini (Katrina Kaif), a wandering soul who sells a business idea to them and asks for a favour in return. As their Phone Bhoot business is flourishing, enters Atmaram (Jackie Shroff) who is an evil ‘soul-catcher’ and finds threat to his business from Major and Gullu. He has a connection with Ragini and her lover’s death and sends his cronies to destroy them. What happens next and in-between is the crux of the story.

Phone Bhoot’s screenplay is weak but some of the dialogues collects laughter. A spectral Sutradhar who presents a voiceover narrative in the beginning, middle and end is hilarious. Also he announces a sequel too, which looks far fetched. The story indulges in whacky incidents and mad situations. Jackie Shroff’s take on his ‘Hero’ and his flute does create nostalgia. The sets are imaginatively designed and the cinematography creates perfect atmosphere. Music is passable and the film has the feel of a full-on mad hatters’ party where everything goes. Katrina Kaif looks pretty and has presents a slightly improved version of her. Siddhant Chaturvedi tries hard which results in over acting. Ishaan Khattar does well as a nerdy guy and brings both charm and spunk to his portrayal.

Phone Bhoot’s mad comedy dials, sometimes, right numbers.

According to renowned singer Javed Ali, “recording the song was an extremely fulfilling journey.” Arvind Pandey’s lyrics are beautiful and flawlessly written. When I found out that he is also directing ‘Ishq Pashmina,’ I knew the song’s video would be mind-blowingly amazing. This was not like the songs I usually sing; it was more lively, upbeat, and full of all the good things. “I’m hoping the audience enjoys it.”

The song features the lead actors – Bhavin and Malti at the heights of Himachal surrounded by the snow where they are dancing and expressing their love for each other. The costumes are coordinated with the same colours making them very cohesive. Malti is looking beautiful in the sarees emanating elegance and Bhavin is looking as dapper as ever in his fashionably layered outfits.

To understand the survivors’ trauma and struggle, Pooja Pandey had met with survivors prior to shooting for the movie. This helped her to understand their plight and enabled her to relate to her character.

Pooja Pandey on meeting the sexual assault survivors shares, ”To understand their agony, struggle and journey it was very important for me to meet them and build a close bond with them. Getting to know them was an eye opener for me and it was such a great learning experience for me. It has immensely helped me to shape my character and to play my part well on screen. These women are real brave hearts and their story is something the world should be aware of. Women are not weak, they are empowered and strong and to have such cases prevalent is heart wrenching. It was very difficult for me to keep a straight face while listening to these survivors’ stories and I had broken down during our meet with them.”

Siya is slated to release on 16th September 2022 in theatres near you. The film is produced by Drishyam Films, who have earlier delivered films like Masaan, Newton and Ankhon Dekhi.

Producer Tukaram Mone told that after working in the forest department for 29 years, this film has been made with a backdrop of the forest department. Women empowerment has also been depicted in the film. Amy has effectively played the role of a forest officer. There are 3 songs in the film along with item number but it has a jungle background.

Producer Tukaram further told that how important is the responsibility of the people of the forest department, it is shown in this picture. Amy has put her life into the role of a brave forest officer in this. I had a wish that a film should be made on the Forest Department, many films have been made on the Police Department but very few films have been made on the Forest Department. In this the message has been given to save the tree and plant new saplings.

Filmmaker Karan Razdan’s film Hindutva is all set to release on October 7 in theatres across the country. Produced by Jaikara Films and Lord Shiva Communications, a Pragunbharat presentation, the film is written, produced and directed by Karan Razdan and has young talents Aashiesh Sharrma, Sonarika Bhadoria and Ankit Raj in lead roles. The film’s motion poster was released today revealing the release date.

Filmmaker Karan Razdan shares, “Hindutva is all about love, friendship, student politics and the true essence of Hinduism. The film will unfold details about Hinduisim which even some Hindus in the country don’t know about.”

He adds, “There has been a lot of talk in the media, especially in the political circles, that there is a great difference between Hinduism and Hindutva. While Hinduism is supposed to be a peaceful way of life, Hindutva is being quoted as radical and extremist. And Hindus who follow Hindutva are being portrayed as hateful fundamentalists. These people do not understand that Hinduism translated in Hindi literally means hindutva. It doesn’t mean Hindu religion, because Hinduism is not a religion.”

He further says, “My film Hindutva in fact goes ten steps ahead and tells these so-called secularists what Hindutva actually means. There has been a lot of Hindu bashing by Bollywood, whether it is us as people or our Gods and Goddesses, we have all been shown in either negative light by Bollywood or in a farcical manner. Both have been unacceptable for me and that is how my film Hindutva was born. Whether it is in India or all over the world, where a wrong perspective of Hindutva is being spread, I would like to set the record straight.”

The film Hindutva is slated for release on 7th October and will be distributed by Pen Marudhar all over India.
