Nishant who plays the role of Rafiq takes on the persona of an unassuming, middle-class man. His character radiates compassion, sincerity, and a genuine devotion to his family. As the script unfolded during narration, Pranay unveiled the intricacies of the narrative which led Nishant to say yes to this role. Nishant shared, “While I have explored a diverse array of roles in the past, this particular character offered a novel experience—a portrayal of a positive and heroic character. As I listened to the narration, I often found echoes of my own identity resonating through Rafiq. Also, given the nature of this film, set in a war-torn backdrop, it was crucial that the director truly grasped its soul and true essence. I heard Pranay’s vision and I got convinced. My gut said, ‘Let’s go for it’.”

On working with Nushrratt Bharuccha, Nishant shared, “Working alongside Nushrratt was an absolute delight. Her dynamic presence on set infused an infectious energy that created a comfortable and enjoyable working environment. Despite the time limitations we faced during preparation, we dedicated ourselves to thorough script readings, delving deep into the intricate paths and connections of our characters.”

Nishant’s commitment to this character also had him dwell into the finer nuances of the Urdu dialect. He invested in diction lessons over a two-week period, under the expert guidance of his Urdu instructor. Beyond language, Nishant also focused on his appearance, consciously adopting the persona of an ordinary individual- someone relatable and unassuming. Nishant also fondly recounts his journey in tinsel town thus far, “Roger Binny is a public figure and Rafiq has an inconspicuous existence. The actor in me loved this contrasting character contrast. This is what makes our job unique, it’s a new stint every time. No other profession can give you this kind of range and job satisfaction” Nishant signs off.

“Working on ‘83’ was an emotional ride for me even when I was going through the script. “I play the character of PR Man Singh Ji. India knows the players but not him. There’s not much information available about him, but his hard work helped India to win the World Cup. I spent an entire day with of PR Man Singh Ji at his Hyderabad residence. We were together from morning to evening, ate together and even saw his house. He has a personal cricket museum which is just fabulous. There is a room dedicated to cricket in his house. He really loves the sport and has even written books on Hyderabad cricket. Glad that ’83 is coming straight from the theatres on Star Gold where India at large can catch the World TV Premiere of the movie with their family on 20th March, 8PM on Star Gold,” Pankaj adds.

Tahir Raj Bhasin plays Vikrant on the show, a simple, young man in love with Shikha, until he realises he’s the object of desire for Purva. That’s when his life takes a turn for the worst. In order to save his loved ones from the passions of a very ‘determined’ woman, he transforms into someone unknown to himself. His character is seen balancing between both these ladies on screen that results in an interesting turn of events.

Talking about his experience of romancing two women on screen, Tahir said, “I am not complaining. Working with both Shweta and Anchal was a really joyous experience. Both of them are supremely talented and gorgeous ladies and I felt lucky to be in that space. However, I can’t say the same for Vikrant. He loved Shikha and wanted to be with her and then Purva came and turned his world upside down. So yeah, it was an extremely fun opportunity for me but rather challenging for my character”.

”It’s an absolute honour and pleasure to be associated with a legend like Syed Kirmani. Today I am sitting with him on the same dias and feel privileged. It was a herculean task for me to portray him in the film, The number of records and landmarks Kirmani Sir has achieved is remarkable. I have represented India in Asian Games in Roller Hockey and also got a bronze medal for India so there is always a natural inclination towards sports. The required training for Kirmani’s character was been provided by the legend himself and also Balwinder Sandhu. It was a long 7-month training on the ground.”

Syed Kirmani also adds,”I am glad that the film has chosen Sahil Khattar to play me. They have picked the right man. There are many similarities between us right from the bald to the beard but I am glad Sahil has come very close to nearest perfection. While they have many scenes together, Sahil is touched by Ranveer’s kindness and support. “We have a scene where we got applause from everyone present on the set. In that scene I have this dialogue, ‘maarenge ya mar jayenge, iske aage kuch nahi’ and Ranveer replies “bhai aap yeh sambhalo mein dusra sambhalta hun’, to which I tell him ‘tu maar main khada hu na’. The next shot is where he hits a boundary. So right after that there was a 30 seconds pause and after the pause the applause started. I remember Ranveer told me ‘eyes lock karlena mere sath, baaki jo kar raha hai sahi kar raha hai’ and that one thing that he added made the scene something very amazing, the emotions came out strong,” he says.

Sharing the advice Ranveer gave him, Sahil adds, “He told me to ride the wave and capitalise on it. Listen to what people say and also focus on what you think and do not keep doing the same thing, try to be experimental. He also said ‘Logon ko jo kehna hai tere baare me kehne de, your progress will speak for itself’ and praised my energy and my ability to focus. He is not just a reel life captain but also a real-life captain for me. We share the Ram-Laxman/Karan-Arjun/Jai-Veeru sort of vibes.”

No doubt Ranveer is like a big brother to the YouTuber. “When I used to make digital videos earlier for Being Indian, I used to get comments like I’m the malnourished Ranveer Singh, so I already had a connection with him. I used to dance on his songs, so the journey from being a fan to a friend has been good and gradual,” he says.

On Ranveer’s performance in the trailer, Sahil adds, “I think he killed it. He is a superb actor. I remember there was a poster shoot where I was dressed as Kiri Bhai and Ranveer as Kapil Dev. He walked in and I went like ‘arrey Kapil sir’ and the next second I realised it’s Ranveer. In fact, his reaction was similar to mine as he also said ‘Arey Kiri bhai’. So we were shocked with each other’s perfection. He is very hardworking and dedicated.”

There is much talk around Ranveer’s dressing sense. Sahil too shares his opinion. “His style is impeccable, where he wants to stand out he will do that, where it needs to be classy he does that well too. He told me that he goes with his feelings on that particular day and occasion. His dressing style is very different, quirky, very anti-fashion/trend. I look forward to continuing to learn from him,” he adds.

Talking about how Ranveer and his actor wife, Deepika Padukone, being called a power couple, Sahil says, “I feel Deepika keeps him grounded. Ranveer is very energetic, while she’s mellow, so it’s a very good balance. Ranveer is living the life of love, he’s loving what he does, he is with the love of his life and getting immense love from all over as you can see the response the trailer has been getting. Both of them are fond of me, woh jo ladla hota hai na ghar ka waisa.”
