Mahesh Bhatt’s Aashiqui launched Rahul Roy and Anu Aggarwal into overnight superstars as the film became a rage in our country for presenting a romantic story that was fresh, deep and ahead of its time. Even the music of Aashiqui was a blockbuster! Similarly, Saiyaara is the launchpad for Ahaan Panday & Aneet Padda as the next YRF hero and heroine. The songs of Saiyaara are also chartbusters while Saiyaara title track is a monster hit!

Mahesh says, “Every generation has love story that defines it. Saiyaara, to me, will be the most definitive romantic film of this generation. When I made Aashiqui, I did it with a lot of purity and I was fortunate that people connected to it deeply and made the two newcomers into overnight stars. I expect Mohit Suri to do the same with Saiyaara.”

He adds, “It is amazing to see that people have the nostalgia of Aashiqui when they are seeing Saiyaara but I can tell you that Saiyaara will rewrite the rules of what a romantic film should be in today’s time and for today’s generation. Every new generation must surpass the earlier generation in everything, and I’m excited for Saiyaara to do the same. Mohit is my prodigy and I couldn’t be happier if he surpasses me in every way possible.”

Mahesh Bhatt feels Mohit Suri, shaped by him as a director, has truly come on his own with Saiyaara.

He says, “I’m proud to see Mohit come out of his mould for Saiyaara. It is refreshingly different from whatever he has made in his entire career and the film seems to have incredible depth of romance which Mohit has within him. I’m glad he has put it all out there for the world to see and embrace. Intensity is necessary for people to connect with the emotion of love and I’m very excited about Saiyaara.”

The veteran film-maker says he was always pushing Mohit to make a film with newcomers and he is glad that Mohit partnered with YRF for Saiyaara. He says, “I’m thrilled to see him take the plunge with Saiyaara with two really talented actors who are simply sparkling on the screen. I’m also very happy that he has a studio like YRF beside him and behind him for this project who have such a rich cinematic legacy.”

He adds, “Saiyaara is looking incredibly fresh, like a breath of fresh air that only happens with newcomers. The energy of Saiyaara is palpable and I have very high expectations from this film to soar. I can’t wait for the country to see it on July 18th!”

Rahul and Nitin go a long way back. “I have known Rahul for over 8 years. He had asked me to compose music for a film he had produced called Elaan. Thus, I was incredibly happy when I got the chance to cast him in my production 8 years later,” says Nitin.

Recently, there was news of Rahul suffering a stroke. Talking about the same, Nitin says that it was a huge shock for the actor as well as others around him. “I have worked with Rahul on Sayonee, then a movie called Walk in August 2020, where he plays a migrant worker, and then LAC in November 2020, where he plays an army Colonel. All three roles are dramatically different, both character-wise and look-wise. He has moulded his accent, body language and look for each. We have grown incredibly close and I think of him as family. During the last shoot, he warned me that I dare not do any film without him! The stroke was a shock but as a doctor, I know sickness is a part of life and we must move forward stronger than before. He will recover very well, is what I can guarantee,” says Nitin, who has been an ophthalmologist before starting out in showbiz.

Nitin is also a music composer himself, yet he didn’t choose to do the film’s music on his own. “I love being a multitasker but as a composer, I know music, apart from being incredibly creative, is also deeply technical. If I am unable to give it enough time being involved with writing and direction, I would be doing the audience an injustice. That’s why I decided to hand the musical baton to youngsters who would work on the music with the time and effort it deserves. I did maintain strict supervision during all aspects of music though!” he says.

“L.A.C – Live The Battle”, which also marks the OTT debut of Nishant Singh Malkhani, is directed by Nitin Kumar Gupta and jointly produced by Chitra Vakil Sharma and Nivedita Basu. Talking about the whole incident, Nivedita said, “Rahul has been a close friend of the director and he was the first one on the project. When we were looking for the other cast we already knew he was on board, and after doing a short film called ‘Walk’ with him during the lockdown, Nitin knew Rahul would be a good choice. Kargil had extreme weather conditions and they had gone up to -12°C and -13°C, so it was just a matter of time when someone would have succumbed to the cold, and I think that’s exactly what happened with Rahul. His one day of the shoot was still left but when we got to know about him, we told Nitin that we need to get him out.”

Nivedita revealed that the production taking care of all the expenses, and said, “Nitin arranged for him to be airlifted from Kargil to Srinagar and then back to Mumbai. The expenses are being taken care of by the production, he was taken to the hospital immediately by us and was given immediate attention. There was some confusion that we did not take care of, but the whole idea of him being airlifted was ours and getting him to a Mumbai hospital also. We have been covering all the expenses because health comes first. His one day of work is left but how we do it is not important, him recovering well is most important now. We wish him a speedy recovery.”
