The recently released power-packed first look teaser of Raja Shivaji features Abhishek Bachchan in a never-seen-before avatar, clad in a warrior’s ensemble, roaring across the battlefield and upholding his brotherly bond with his Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, promising a spectacle that goes beyond the battles!

“It’s my first ever Marathi film,” said Abhishek Bachchan and mentioned that it was Riteish Deshmukh’s dream to mount a film based on the life and legacy of one of India’s greatest warrior kings. “Riteish, who I considered to be my brother, has been dreaming about this from the first time that I ever met him about 25 years ago in Latur. I was shooting there for a film of mine called Zameen. And Riteish was just coming into the film industry, and he came to hang out with Ajay Devgn and me, who were shooting, and that’s where our friendship began. And then we’ve gone on to collaborate on several films,” he shared.

The actor recalled a moment when he visited Riteish Deshmukh’s residence, where the actor revealed his “dream” to go beyond acting – to direct and make a film on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. “So this is a dream he’s harboured and worked on for several years.”

Raja Shivaji’s explosive first look teaser made its digital debut on 31st March, and it received a thunderous reaction from the audience, with many hailing the visual grandeur, action-packed sequences, intensity and heroism that resonates across generations. “The first look teaser has just come out. It released a couple of days ago. It’s got wonderful, wonderful reactions,” he shared.

“Riteish has arguably made the most ambitious Marathi film made till date. I have no doubt about the kind of director that he is, which he has already proven in his last film. He’s going to do something that is going to become a cornerstone for Marathi cinema. And I’m so, so happy for him, so happy to be a part of it, be part of telling the story. And I hope everybody likes the film because I really think it’s going to be a seminal moment for Marathi cinema,” he added.

Mounted on a grand cinematic canvas, Raja Shivaji features high-octane action, rich world-building, and top technical excellence. With music by the celebrated duo Ajay–Atul and cinematography by internationally acclaimed Santosh Sivan, the film is set to deliver a grand visual spectacle with powerful emotional resonance.

An emotional Abhishek Bachchan who won the best actor award, said, “ Life has come full circle for me. I came here in 2022 where i was feted with the excellence in cinema award for my body of work. But this is an emotional moment for me to get the best actor on this very stage and be recognised for my role in a film that’s extremely special to me. It was 3 years back in Melbourne at this same festival where Shoojit Da offered me this role in I Want To Talk. It was Shoojit Da who believed in me that i could pull off this role and this role is an ode to my father and my daughter because it’s about caring and raising a parent”.

The 16th edition of IFFM has once again brought together filmmakers, actors, and audiences in a shared celebration of creativity, culture, and cinematic excellence — cementing its place as the largest Indian film festival outside of India. The festival will continue till 24th August where Homebound will be the closing film.

Review : Housefull 5 : Whodunit with Slapstick Humour!

Housefull 5 sails into familiar territory with its trademark over-the-top comedy and chaotic character confusion. This time, the madness unfolds aboard a lavish cruise ship where billionaire #RanjeetDobriyal (#Ranjeet) is celebrating his 100th birthday — until he’s mysteriously murdered before the festivities begin. Before his death, he had transferred all his wealth to his first wife’s son, Jolly. But chaos erupts when not one, but three men — Julius aka Jolly (#AkshayKumar), Jalaluddin aka Jolly (#RiteishDeshmukh), and Jalbhushan aka Jolly (#AbhishekBachchan) — arrive to claim the inheritance.

Things spiral out of control when Dev (Fardeen Khan), Ranjeet’s stepson, demands a DNA test to identify the real Jolly — only for the doctor to be murdered next. With the killer clearly among them, two bumbling cops, Bhidu (Sanjay Dutt) and Baba (Jackie Shroff), attempt to investigate, adding more confusion than clarity. Each character brings their own brand of comic madness, mistaken identities, and outrageous antics that spiral out of control.

The film is packed with slapstick humour, glamorous heroines (Soundarya Sharma, Jacqueline Fernandez, Sonam Bajwa, Nargis Fakhri, Chitrangda Singh), and lavish visuals. However, the screenplay feels stretched with back-to-back songs like “Kayaamat,” “Laal Pari,” and “Phugdi Dance” interrupting the narrative flow. While the jokes aim for laughs, many double entendres feel outdated and borderline crass. Among the cast, Nana Patekar stands out with his commanding presence, while the rest mostly play to their comedic strengths.

A unique gimmick — two alternate climaxes (Housefull 5A and 5B) — means audiences may get different killer reveals depending on which version they watch. Despite its star-studded ensemble and high production value, the film falls short of delivering a fresh story, reminding viewers that content, not just chaos, is key. Watch it if you’re in the mood for mindless comedy and don’t mind predictable mayhem.

There won’t be any major rise or fall.” However, the cards tell a more positive story when it comes to his upcoming film.

“Housefull 5 will do good business at the box office. It’s going to be commercially successful and attract audiences for its entertainment value,” she shares.
