Currently, in the show, Vanraj Shah is trying to earn Malvika’s trust by showing that he has faced a lot in both his marriages just like she did. He tries to show her that it’s not just a woman, but even a man suffers in a marriage, it’s just that his voice is often unheard. He is using his side of the story to get Malvika to sympathize with him. Sharing her thoughts on this, Alpana said, “Without being gender biased let’s keep human emotions in mind. And I feel whether it is a man or a woman anyone can use their hardship to seek sympathy. It completely depends on the individual.”

But as an audience does she sympathise with Vanraj? “I don’t want to disturb my character’s perception towards the story and other characters by assessing any character of my serial as an audience. I would just like to be an actress playing the character of Leela,” she said.

The show has seen a lot of arguments and fights happening between couples, be it Anupamaa-Vanraj, Kavya-Vanraj, Paritosh-Kinjal, Samar-Nandini or even Baa-Bapuji, but at the end of the day though it happened between a couple, the family suffered because of it. For real life situations, Alpana advises, “The family does suffer. So a couple should have that maturity even when fighting.”

What can we expect from her character in the upcoming episodes? “You can expect a lot more fun and an emotional roller-coaster ride,” Alpana concluded.

She said, “Film and television are completely different mediums. A television serial is a daily commitment of a channel to the audience. So, we as an actor, as a part of a daily serial, practically can not fulfill any other professional commitment other than the ongoing one. However, we still try and do some small ad assignment, if luck and time permits.”

While stressing more on the pros and cons, the talented actress also asserted TV actors get typecast easily as compared to film actors. “On Indian television as an actor we get stuck to a certain pre-moulded character, so there is not much scope for selection,” she said, adding, “I have observed this from my experience that our TV audience generally likes to see an actor in a fixed mould for a longer period of time so it is easier for an actor doing TV to get typecast. But thank god that till date I have always got different characters to play in all the shows that I have done.”

Alpana has been a part of shows like “Saraswatichandra”, “Udaan”, “Roop – Mard Ka Naya Swaroop” and “Baal Veer”, to name a few. She confessed that it’s always the story that catches her attention.

“In TV, it is more about liking the story and your character. So if it’s a good plot with a good character of my liking, I take it up. I always have been very lucky to get good characters, but as an actor, my character Leela in ‘Anupamaa’ is closest to my heart because it gave me the fame and satisfaction an actor always looks forward to,” she said.

Well, the actress also opened up about how a celebrity’s personal life becomes the only talking point once they make their relationship public. Alpana believes that it depends on the celebrity how much or how little they want to talk about.

“There are two sides of any profession, especially when one is a public figure, a professional side and a personal side. So it’s an individual decision to not disclose about their private life after a point and put a limitation to it. Media will write or highlight only what you convey. But so far, my personal experience with the media has been excellent and I am really thankful to them for appreciating my work,” she signed off.

Sudhanshu Pandey (seen as Vanraj in Anupamaa): We need to as society start disciplining ourselves. My family and I we practice certain things in our daily life, like we have started segregating dry and wet garbage. Also, I have taught my kids to not waste water at all. So be it brushing, or taking a shower, anywhere we are using water we try to use it only when it’s required and not just waste it or keep the taps open. And also, we try to avoid using plastic as much as we can, because I don’t want us to be guilty of the adding the curse of plastic to your environment. These are the three things that we practice on a regular basis, and although they are very small they can make a very big change. And if we can do it as a society then we can surely reverse the situation of our planet.

Parvati Sehgal (seen as Komal in Mann Ki Awaaz Pratigya 2): Let us be the change we wish to see in the world. I for one use no plastic bags. I put my drinking water in stainless steel and copper bottle. Segregation of domestic waste is a normal in our household. We are now growing tomatoes, cucumber, etc in our balcony as an initial green measure.

Alpana Buch (seen as Baa in Anupamaa): I would like to use Mahatma Gandhi’s quote “Earth provides enough to fulfill every human’s need but not every human’s greed.” So friends, it’s high time we humans realise that environment is no one’s property to destroy, but it’s our responsibility to protect. I am proud of myself and everyone who even in this congested city like Mumbai tries to grow small house plants atleast as their small contribution towards our own environment. I have stopped using plastic and other toxic materials as far as possible. Trust me, a small environmental friendly gesture from every individual will surely give a better environment for our future generations. Let’s start doing everything possible from our side to protect our environment and let’s pledge together that we will not let our mother nature become a ‘Once upon a Time’.

Asmita Sharma (seen as Amma Ji in Mann Ki Awaaz Pratigya 2): I agree that if you don’t go back to nature, you won’t be able to lead a healthy life. All those things that we used to do earlier, like during our grandparents’ time, if we start following them now, then we will surely be able to make a change in our lifestyle and thus change the environment. There are small things like avoiding using plastic and aluminum and changing to steel and iron utensils that can make a big difference. Saving water is another thing that I do. These are some of the few things that we can do on an individual level and they can make a bigger difference than one can imagine.

Bhumika Gurung (seen as Meera in Mann Ki Awaaz Pratigya 2): I wouldn’t say that I’ve done it all but yes I contribute less to harm the environment in my own way, starting off with basic things like saving water, saving electricity, using less plastic and recycling food waste as a replacement for plants as soil. The actor adds that another factor behind the show being a huge hit is the bond shared by the team. “We have a very pleasant atmosphere on the sets and this is why I feel our performances come out very naturally and effortlessly. People find Anupamaa very natural and just like how normal people in a family behave in reality. The compositions given to everyone are very nice. Plus, we all are so mischievous on the sets, so there is some or the other prank or funny things going around in between. We all sit together to have lunch and evening snacks and we have a very strong bond. This is a very big thing, according to me. This makes us more like a family performing the emotions, we actually feel while performing,” she says.

The actor shares a great rapport with everyone on the set. “I bond the most with Rupali Ganguly on the sets. Everyone on the set is really nice. We are like this in real life too, very fun-loving. What we actually make and post in not even 5% of what we are usually doing on sets. We enjoy being together. At times, we feel that may be due to these things it might be creating little indiscipline on sets but that is how work should happen, some fun and hard work along with some amazing people. Just today, when Paras was not on the sets, it felt very boring. But I feel grateful to have such a bond within us and it never makes us feel bored on the sets. These small moments are memories for me which I will cherish,” she says.

Ask her what is the best compliment that she has got so far, and she says, “Just recently, one of my friends complimented me that she doesn’t want this character baa as her mother-in-law ever but she loves me in the show! This was very sweet and I feel that was the best compliment that I have received so far,” she says.

Meanwhile, Alpana admits that the show has added a lot of value to her career. “Anupamaa has added to my popularity and now people know the actor playing Baa in the show. I am happy people are recognizing me as Baa. So yes, Anupamaa is the reason behind my popularity. But I can’t deny that my work in Gujarati theatre is also a reason that people know me,” she says.

Sudhanshu Pandey: 2020 has been very a challenging year, or rather the most challenging time of our lives. It began well and then the pandemic set in, it started spreading so fast that before we could arrange for any sort of back up, it was already all over the place and we were in a lockdown. God has been very kind, by Mahakal’s blessings everyone in my family is safe, we have survived through this situation, and from July onwards I started working as well. So, it has been pretty ok for me because I know people have been through the worst. I don’t have any new year plans this year, keeping the pandemic and the safety of everyone in mind. I think a celebration is where your family is, so I am going to celebrate it with my family.

Alpana Buch: 2020 was a mix for me. I started shooting for my Gujarati film in January 2020, I did some theatre shows, and in February, I signed ‘Anupamaa’. Then suddenly we got the biggest lesson of our life – the lockdown. When the shootings resumed in July, I was very happy and I have been extremely busy since then. I am associated with a very big show ‘Anupamaa’, and my character is being praised a lot. I have received so much love for my character Leela. I call 2020 the biggest teacher because nothing is above nature. It taught us that we need to maintain a balance in life. It taught us to have good food, keep our surroundings clean, and lead a disciplined life. It also taught us that there is no guarantee of tomorrow. As far as my new year plans are concerned, I don’t have any this time.

Paras Kalnawat: 2020 was like a roller coaster. I have seen good, bad, life has taught me so many lessons that it has been a completely different journey. But I would say it was neither bad nor good. The lockdown was depressing, but with ‘Anupamaa’ things changed for me. I met a new family and I got my mummy (Rupali Ganguly), whom I love the same as my real mom. I have been getting so much love and appreciation for my role Samar that it made the later part of the year a good one. I have learned so much in 2020, that it’s difficult to explain, but I can say the most important learning would be that nothing is permanent in this world. I used to live my life thinking that nothing will happen, but then the pandemic made me think. I have never given time to myself because I was always working, but 2020 taught me that I need to give time to my family, to myself, and also to enjoy those precious moments. There are no special plans for the new year. I am going to spend the day with my family. Even if I meet my friends I will meet them at home and avoid going to crowded places.

Aashish Mehrotra: I think in 2020 we spent 6-7 months in the lockdown. I used this time to work on myself, from getting up early in the morning, to doing basic stretches and doing a revision of all the acting workshops I have attended on a video call with a very close friend Subha, I did all that. I also did voice exercises with again another close friend Amber. I watched loads of series and films, made notes, and worked on developing characters. I had to learn to cook to survive, but then I became a good cook. I also learned baking, and now I bake cakes for my friends’ birthdays and also co-actors. I also started painting and I feel I have done a decent job in that area. In fact, I have also sold a few to pay bills. Also, there is one painting of Shiva, which I will be sharing soon, and it will be my gift to Sudhanshu sir. My new year will mostly be in Goa, to rejuvenate and refresh myself. It will be a new journey as it’s going to be the beginning of my solo trips.

Muskan Bamne: My 2020 was good overall. I started my year working with Sachin Tendulkar sir, then my uncle got married, and I was signed for ‘Anupamaa’. I got to work with such amazing people. Then the biggest twist of 2020 came, COVID – 19. Everything was shut down for so long. However, my lockdown was super fun as I used to do workouts every day with my family, then help my grandfather and sister in the kitchen. I have learned to make so many things from them, and I must say housework is not easy, it is never-ending, but it’s fun doing it. I learned a lot from 2020. I learned that life is only as good as our mindset and that nothing is permanent. It also taught us that each life on earth is important, so spread love and positivity. My new year celebration plan is to be with my family and have fun.

Anagha Bhosale: My 2020 was lovely because I had signed my first TV show, which on-air at the beginning of the year, but towards March, during the lockdown it went off-air. Then I got ‘Anupamaa’. It’s God’s blessing and it’s been good since then. Overall, it was a lovely year for me. The learning from 2020 is that I feel that we humans are just guests on this planet earth and this pandemic and the lockdown made us a better human being. It taught me to be strong. There are no new year celebration plans as such, maybe a house party and spending time with family and friends.
