In the Indian cinema category, “Against the Tide,” directed by Sarvnik Kaur, and “The Leopards Tribe,” directed by Miriam Chandy Menacherry, emerged as the Best Indian Features, captivating audiences with their compelling narratives and environmental messages.

#JackieShroff, #MrunmayeeDeshpande and #SureshWadkar joined as the #goodwillambassador for the #AllLivingThingsEnvironmentalFilmFestival #(ALT EFF) for the second consecutive year. The trio is known for their constant support and for their initiative towards the protection of the environment and #climatechange.

Actor Jackie Shroff, says, “There are two things that I am really passionate about: movies and the environment and this combines both. I would suggest people watch movies that are going to be showcased which are based on the environment and you will have an idea that climate change is real. I was part of it last year as well and it was a huge success and I hope people show similar love for this edition as well.”

Actor Mrunmayee Deshpande says, “The festival is going to have an interesting selection of films like Shaunak Sen’s All that Breathes, which has won multiple awards across the world. Into Dust, which is directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Orlando Van Einsiedel, is another such movie. There will be a panel discussion by a talented bunch of directors and it’s going to be insightful.”

ALT EFF has been one of India’s only film festivals focused on sustainability and the environment. This year it’s starting from Nov 17-27 and around 55 films are planned to be showcased at the festival. Started in 2020 in a virtual format, this year the festival will be held in a hybrid format, with virtual as well as physical screenings. Amit V Masurkar, director of Sherni and Newton is also going to be part of the jury.

Mrunmayee Deshpande Rao says, “ALT EFF is the need of the hour. Today, we need such festivals that showcase the harsh realities of our time. Unfortunately, climate change and global warming has become our reality and I am so glad that through this festival, we are celebrating environmental narratives. I wish them great success and I hope that through this we can try to amend our mistakes and initiate change.”

Padmashri Shri Suresh Wadkar adds, “I am so proud of the team at ALT EFF as they have taken up a big onus to highlight through films, the environmental problems of today. The line-up of films is very interesting and I am looking forward to some compelling narratives. I am sure that the festival will be a great success. I wish them all the very best to all the participants and I hope that the festival continues to grow from here upwards and onwards.

The festival will take place between October 9th and 17th and will showcase 44 films from 31 countries and highlighting 33 India premiers. The festival brings together the creative, academic, business, activist, scientific, and government communities to engage with citizens and build collective power for environmental causes and actions.
