“I always wanted to experience every profession, and the only way to achieve that was to become an actor and explore different experiences through different roles. From being a medical student until 12th grade, I didn’t know how to enter acting; hence, I took modelling as a stepping stone. By God’s grace, I had a wonderful time being a model, endorsing top brands like Mountain Dew, Hindustan Times, and appearing on the cover page of Men’s Health. I walked the ramp for almost all the top designers and felt extremely elated after doing a music video for Mr. Kailash Kher for his soulful song ‘Saiyan.’ Alongside modelling, I trained myself as an actor and started my acting career. My family has always been extremely supportive in all aspects, hence, I didn’t face the struggle to get their approval. But I would like to mention that self-motivation was and will always be required to keep myself motivated as an actor,” he says.

He adds that he has stopped stressing out about his career. “Initially, I used to get stressed to be on top and prove myself, but it deprived me of ‘being in the present’ and enjoying things. In my head, I was always running ahead of time and racing towards Mirage. With time, I realised it’s more important to enjoy the process and be content; that’s the real success,” he says.

He adds, “Depression and mental health have always been considered taboo in Indian society. I am extremely glad that we have evolved and have started looking at mental health as normally as physical health. I don’t think it’s being magnified; rather, I look at it as awareness. Slowing down is extremely important, but in the head and not in actions. We have to do our Karma, give our best shot, and stop stressing about it. The biggest goal is to be in the present and content.”

Every celebrity supports one cause or the other just by their mere presence or by attending events. However, there are hardly a few of them who are going out there and doing real field work. Harphool Mohini actor Amal Sehrawat talks about the same and the causes he feels for.

“It is very personal. It doesn’t have to do anything with your celebrity status, it has to do what kind of a human being you are. Generally actors are very sympathetic and empathetic and that is the reason they feel the person’s pain or joy so much. I believe people should go out and help those in need in every way possible. I know many friends in my circle who go out of their way to help. I also know the celebrities who do that. I hardly know anybody who just fakes it for publicity,” he says.

If every celebrity supports a specific cause and constantly works on the field, then they can influence a lot more people to join in. And, together, it would make a huge impact because just donating money or attending an event or doing PR does not really make a difference.

“Jiska kam usi ko sajhe. I think every person should do the job where his or her expertise lies. If a celebrity would leave his primary job that is acting and get fully involved in social activity then how will she or he generate money from? So, you need to understand that the forte of a celebrity is acting, that is what they can do the best. By doing so they earn a lot of money and they donate that money to social causes. Those in the NGO do have expertise on such things and therefore can do this better,” he adds.

The most effective way to bring about a change, according to Amal, is to change our thought process. “One needs to change their attitude towards other people and to change our perception towards the world. Once these things happen, it will change our viewpoint and automatically it will reflect in our actions,” he shares.

Speaking on the causes closest to his heart, the actor begins by saying that there are many things that he feels for. “I am very emotional towards martyrs, because I strongly believe that people in force stay away from their family just to protect us. So, I deeply feel for them, though I feel for everyone else. I also feel deeply about animals because they can’t express themselves and are often at the mercy of human beings,” he adds.

“So after Choti Sarrdaarni, I had to move back to Delhi because in the last six months, while I was shooting the show, I lost my father to Covid and my mom was not keeping well. She couldn’t take that shock. So my wife, son and I shifted back to Delhi to take care of my mom and then we finally convinced her to move with us to Mumbai. She finally agreed, so all are back in Mumbai. Also, I was extensively busy sorting our property issues that started after the sudden demise of my father,” he says.

Amal’s father breathed his last during the first wave of Covid in June 2020. The loss was difficult for him to handle.

“I was shattered but when somehow I managed to stand up, another challenge came up. My mother’s health deteriorated and the property issues also cropped up. So it took me a while to get into action and now I’m back,” he adds.

The actor is doing another show titled Har Phool Ki Mohini with the makers of Choti Sarrdaarni , Rajesh Ram Singh and Pradeep Kumar. And, he sounds quite excited talking about it.

“I’m doing a show with the same production house and I’m very grateful to Rajesh sir, Pradeep sir and Bharti ma’am of colors TV for keeping their faith in me. My manager Rupesh Sonar also plays a vital role in getting me this show. He’s the only one who pushed me and also informed them that I am back in town and ready to start working,” he continues, “This is a very nice show. It’s a love story of a Haryanvi boy and a south Indian girl. So the audience will get to see two flavours of India in one story, and Haryanvi and south Indian cultures coming together will make for an entertaining journey. There is a strong message given through humour and drama.”

Amal plays the character of Santok in the show. “Santok is a mature guy. He has got a lot of stability in his life, and he is not impulsive at all. He thinks, takes time and then reacts and always tries to strike out a balance between his family and outsiders,” the actor talks about his character.

Amal has come a long way. For those not in the know, he started with modelling before becoming an actor. “God has been very kind to me and thankfully I’ve come a really long way till now and there’s a long way to go ahead. Also, because the learning and progress should never stop, I would also want the same things to continue in my life. My only learning from all the experiences so far is to be honest and sincere in your job,” he adds.

Acting opportunities have increased with the rise in the number of platforms and mediums. But what has also gone up is competition. “Well, competition is a part and parcel of life. The competition has not increased because of the number of platforms or mediums but the platforms have provided the opportunity to various competitors, various contemporaries who are really good at their craft and it’s a good sign,” he says.

Many have also been saying that the content on TV has evolved over the years. Agreeing, the actor adds, “Let me give the example of my new show to explain my point. So, we had proper workshops done, proper reading sessions, look tests and the scripts were prepared well in advance and we got proper rehearsal time as well. Also, content wise, it’s not about the kitchen-sink drama anymore, it’s about dealing with the larger social issues and giving a strong message to make things better and if possible find a solution.”

Amit Sarin: Valentine’s Day is special for a lot of reasons, I met my wife on Valentine’s Day and my first child, my daughter Vaeda was born on Valentine’s Day. Because of social media, I feel Valentine’s Day has become more popular and a big marketing strategy. My idea of romance is to be able to hold each other’s hand, walk together, travel together, have meals together, pull each other’s leg and even after 13 years of marriage to often say “I love you”.

Amal Sehrawat: Everyday becomes Valentine’s Day after marriage. But I honestly feel every occasion is a mix of celebration and marketing these days, and this day is no exception. Like a lot of other people, I celebrate this day with my family. For me, romance is silently feeling each other’s emotions, it has always been this way.

Vijayendra Kumeria: My wife and I never went crazy about this day, and it has been the same before and after marriage. Every day is day of love for us and we don’t believe in dedicating just one day for love. I totally agree that it’s a marketing strategy, especially because of social media where couples post cute, loving pictures but then all of a sudden you hear they are no more in a relationship. For me, romance is simply to care for and love someone.

Sharad Malhotra: The idea of romance should not be limited or restricted to just one day of the year. Love should be celebrated throughout the year, each day of life and not just on the 14th of February (Valentine’s day). People have made this day very commercial in the form of Valentine goodies, chocolates, balloons, etc. and there are hardly any emotions left to be felt on this particular day.

Mrunal Jain: Post marriage, celebrating this day becomes important as you have to make sure that life doesn’t become boring after marriage. You need to put more effort to make it more special than it was before marriage. It is still considered as one of the most special days when people go out in the market and shop for their loved ones. Actually, this day has become more relevant because of social media. According to me, Valentine’s Day should be always between two people rather than showing it off to the world. My idea of romance with my partner would be to listen to her and hear what she has to say, spending more time with her, keeping the phone switched off and giving her all my time.

Chandni Soni: Before marriage, I have never celebrated Valentine’s Day because I was into studies and I was very focused but after getting married I have. February 13th is my anniversary and 14th is Valentine’s Day, so it become more special and a double celebration for me. I always get two gifts from my husband and enjoy the day.

Micckie Dudaaney: There is not much of a difference before and after marriage on Valentine’s Day for me because before marriage also I was spending this day with the same girl and now she is my wife. May be the way we celebrate it is different now. Earlier we used to party a lot, but now that we are together every day is a party for us. So we don’t need to celebrate Valentine’s, I know it sounds very cliche, but that’s the truth.

Pallavi Rao: Every day is my Valentine’s Day. I love getting gifts and whenever my husband gets something for me, it becomes a special day. Before marriage the sound of Valentine’s Day was very exciting, and I always wanted someone to gift me something, that’s a different feel altogether. After marriage you are mature, you are settled, you have a mental security, and your Valentine’s Days becomes very secure. It is a very mature Valentine’s, but having said that I wouldn’t mind letting my hair lose and chill at the beach.
