“Initially, I just wanted to go for positive characters but, it shouldn’t be like that for an actor. Whichever character you audition for you should play it effortlessly, and it shouldn’t matter whether it is a positive or a negative character. It’s the way you portray it. You are cast because of the way you look, so I think looks play a major role. It should be a conscious effort to choose different characters but half the work is done by the casting people and I am sure they do a superb job looking at you and your performance,” she said.

For Anagha, it is always the story and the character that attracts her to a script. She shared, “When I started watching ‘Anupamaa’ I was still shooting for my last serial but I really liked the fact that storyline is based on a woman and how she does everything. It’s portrayed very beautifully so for me it is your character and how impactful your character is.”

Speaking of “Anupamaa”, the actress said that her character developed gradually in the show. “I remember first being cast opposite Samar Shah. My masi in the show is married to Vanraj Shah who will be my father-in-law. The character is loved by the audiences due to the SaNan scenes and the chemistry that Samar and Nandini share, her bond with the Shah family and Anupamaa. It was done gradually, so all thanks to the writers, and Rajan sir for his vision. I am quite happy and fortunate that people are loving Nandini,” she said.

Asked if she feels that a celebrity’s personal life takes the centre stage if they make their relationship public, Anagha said, “Yes, of course, personal life becomes the main focus after you reveal your relationship because it’s the love and affection that people give you and they want to talk about you. To an extent, it’s completely understandable that your fans want to know about your personal life once you accept it in front of the media. They message the media people about it that’s why even the media people are interested in talking to you about it.”

She said, “It was a process where all of us were involved including me, my director, Rajan sir, the creators, the writers, and everyone behind and in front of the camera. I won’t say it was easy to maintain Nandini’s innocence, but I was able to do that because it has been written so beautifully.”

“The way she handles her relations, be it with Kavya or Samar or Anupamaa, it’s quite interesting to watch. She cares for Kavya but at the same time they have their differences because she can’t believe that her own maasi can be so manipulative. And also she never realised that she would make such a beautiful bond with Anupamaa, and people are loving that about her. I am so grateful for that. It’s been a roller coaster ride but I love being Nandini and I am enjoying every bit of it,” she added.

In the recent track of the show, the audience saw that Anupamaa has a tumour in her ovaries and the whole family and Nandini are trying their best to keep her happy. Anagha revealed that the audience can expect a lot of twists now.

“It was heartbreaking when I heard about the tumour, and I was quite shocked. We were just discussing it over the dinner at the location that it was a sudden twist in the tale. It’s a commendable track and people are going to fall in love with it, also they’re going to witness a lot of twists. They will see a new change in Samar and Nandini’s relationship, and likewise with Vanraj, Kavya and Anupamaa. So it’s quite exciting, and I’m looking forward to performing the next scenes,” she said.

When asked what can we expect next from Nandini, she said, “Samar and Nandini’s love story is going to move forward. Rajan Sir has created some of the best on-screen Jodis, and people love Sanan too. The credit goes to him and the writers.”

“A lot will be shown of Nandini now, she will continue to be supportive of Anupamaa and Samar, but her past is going to be revealed which somewhere everyone was waiting for. So stay tuned for that, the audience is going to love it” Anagha concluded.

Sudhanshu Pandey: 2020 has been very a challenging year, or rather the most challenging time of our lives. It began well and then the pandemic set in, it started spreading so fast that before we could arrange for any sort of back up, it was already all over the place and we were in a lockdown. God has been very kind, by Mahakal’s blessings everyone in my family is safe, we have survived through this situation, and from July onwards I started working as well. So, it has been pretty ok for me because I know people have been through the worst. I don’t have any new year plans this year, keeping the pandemic and the safety of everyone in mind. I think a celebration is where your family is, so I am going to celebrate it with my family.

Alpana Buch: 2020 was a mix for me. I started shooting for my Gujarati film in January 2020, I did some theatre shows, and in February, I signed ‘Anupamaa’. Then suddenly we got the biggest lesson of our life – the lockdown. When the shootings resumed in July, I was very happy and I have been extremely busy since then. I am associated with a very big show ‘Anupamaa’, and my character is being praised a lot. I have received so much love for my character Leela. I call 2020 the biggest teacher because nothing is above nature. It taught us that we need to maintain a balance in life. It taught us to have good food, keep our surroundings clean, and lead a disciplined life. It also taught us that there is no guarantee of tomorrow. As far as my new year plans are concerned, I don’t have any this time.

Paras Kalnawat: 2020 was like a roller coaster. I have seen good, bad, life has taught me so many lessons that it has been a completely different journey. But I would say it was neither bad nor good. The lockdown was depressing, but with ‘Anupamaa’ things changed for me. I met a new family and I got my mummy (Rupali Ganguly), whom I love the same as my real mom. I have been getting so much love and appreciation for my role Samar that it made the later part of the year a good one. I have learned so much in 2020, that it’s difficult to explain, but I can say the most important learning would be that nothing is permanent in this world. I used to live my life thinking that nothing will happen, but then the pandemic made me think. I have never given time to myself because I was always working, but 2020 taught me that I need to give time to my family, to myself, and also to enjoy those precious moments. There are no special plans for the new year. I am going to spend the day with my family. Even if I meet my friends I will meet them at home and avoid going to crowded places.

Aashish Mehrotra: I think in 2020 we spent 6-7 months in the lockdown. I used this time to work on myself, from getting up early in the morning, to doing basic stretches and doing a revision of all the acting workshops I have attended on a video call with a very close friend Subha, I did all that. I also did voice exercises with again another close friend Amber. I watched loads of series and films, made notes, and worked on developing characters. I had to learn to cook to survive, but then I became a good cook. I also learned baking, and now I bake cakes for my friends’ birthdays and also co-actors. I also started painting and I feel I have done a decent job in that area. In fact, I have also sold a few to pay bills. Also, there is one painting of Shiva, which I will be sharing soon, and it will be my gift to Sudhanshu sir. My new year will mostly be in Goa, to rejuvenate and refresh myself. It will be a new journey as it’s going to be the beginning of my solo trips.

Muskan Bamne: My 2020 was good overall. I started my year working with Sachin Tendulkar sir, then my uncle got married, and I was signed for ‘Anupamaa’. I got to work with such amazing people. Then the biggest twist of 2020 came, COVID – 19. Everything was shut down for so long. However, my lockdown was super fun as I used to do workouts every day with my family, then help my grandfather and sister in the kitchen. I have learned to make so many things from them, and I must say housework is not easy, it is never-ending, but it’s fun doing it. I learned a lot from 2020. I learned that life is only as good as our mindset and that nothing is permanent. It also taught us that each life on earth is important, so spread love and positivity. My new year celebration plan is to be with my family and have fun.

Anagha Bhosale: My 2020 was lovely because I had signed my first TV show, which on-air at the beginning of the year, but towards March, during the lockdown it went off-air. Then I got ‘Anupamaa’. It’s God’s blessing and it’s been good since then. Overall, it was a lovely year for me. The learning from 2020 is that I feel that we humans are just guests on this planet earth and this pandemic and the lockdown made us a better human being. It taught me to be strong. There are no new year celebration plans as such, maybe a house party and spending time with family and friends.

Alpana Buch: My new year’s resolution is that I do good work, more people get to know me through ‘Anupamaa’, and those small dreams that I have, I fulfill them. The pandemic has taught us that materialistic things hold no importance. So I am only focused on the good and positive things in life.

Paras Kalnawat: My new year’s resolution is to be fit, give my best to the audience, and give my love to my fans. I will also work on my mental health because that’s also very important. I will give a little space to myself and spend some ‘me’ time. I want to help more people than I have helped in 2020 because I feel that even if I bring some happiness to someone’s life then there is no bigger joy than that. So I will work on that too.

Aashish Mehrotra: I don’t believe in new year’s resolutions. I just believe in hitting even harder the next day and never forget why you are here.

Muskan Bamne: My new year resolution is to work hard on myself, eat fewer calories, stay healthy, and be more confident.

Anagha Bhosale: My new year’s resolution would be to be a little health-conscious, and lead a healthy lifestyle.

Paras Kalnawat, who is seen as Samar Shah: The pandemic has of course affected all the festivals, and so even on Diwali we are going to keep it very low key. I will just have a couple of friends over and those will only be the ones who live in the same building as me. I will also go to visit my on-screen mom Rupali Ganguly to wish her for the festival. “Anupamaa” is doing wonders on the telly because it is the story of every household. Moreover, the warmth and positivity on the set also reflect on-screen. The production house is just amazing. Rajan sir takes care of each of us and that is very rare. He is the best, he is so kind-hearted and polite and everyone in the team has taken this from him.

Muskan Bamne, who plays Pakhi Shah: This Diwali I will be going home to Madhya Pradesh. I live in a joint family so it will be fun celebrating it with everyone. The best part about our show is I think the whole team of “Anupamaa”, the co-actors, writers, directors, everyone is doing the best they can to make the show a success. I have nowhere seen that a producer himself comes on the set, but Rajan sir keeps visiting us and interacting with us. We have become like a big family, and it’s fun to work here.

Nidhi Shah, who essays Kinjal: This year my Diwali is going to be simple, no taam-jhaam. It will just be my family and we are going to make sweets and also distribute them. We will light diyas, make rangoli and pray for the betterment of everyone around us. The best part about our show is our unity. Everyone is giving their best, the vibes on the set are positive, and every individual is so pure at heart. The place is so good and the environment on the set is such that we don’t feel like going home. Everything in this production house is so good that I am grateful and thankful that I got a chance to work with them. I feel so proud of being a part of the show. I can’t thank Rajan Shahi sir enough for believing in me as Kinjal. It’s an amazing feeling to be a part of this show.

Anagha Bhosale, who plays Nandini: I wanted to go to Pune to meet my grandmother on Diwali but it’s not safe to travel now, so I will be avoiding that. I am going to celebrate the festival with my parents, I will be lighting diyas, and help my mom make ladoos. I have never burnt crackers in my life, it was just one sparkler on a few Diwalis and that’s it, but other than that I have never burnt one. The best part about our show is that we are like a family, and we all are always there for each other. That’s the strength of our show. I can’t thank Rajan Shahi sir enough for giving me this new family, everyone here is so kind-hearted and warm. This is like my second home. It’s one of the best production houses to work with. Rajan sir is so down-to-earth, so humble and so kind. Even when I get off or I am not shooting, I just want to go back on the sets, that’s the kind of effect the show and my new family has on me.
