Ironically, just a day before her demise, Babul had taken to his Instagram handle to apologize to the late singer. With folded hands emojis he had posted “Maaf kar dena Didi…”, for extracting her original voice using AI for his new song Inteha 2.0, which is a Club Mix of the original Inteha Ho Gayi, a gem of a composition by Bappi Lahiri from Sharaabi.

He fondly remembers his Asha didi for her warmth and support that she continued to have for him. He said, “Artists like Asha Bhosle never leave, they live in our lives for eternity. This feels like a deeply personal loss for me. I’ve shared the stage with her in so many concerts since 1996 and had the privilege of knowing and learning so much about life and singing from her.”

“Over the years, she got to know my family well and when my mother passed away during the pandemic, she called and spoke to me, saying that I am free to call her whenever I feel like it. My only regrets remain that I couldn’t visit her in her bungalow on Panchgani hills,” he added.

Remembering the first time he had the opportunity to share the stage with her during her US tour in the late nineties, he shared that she scolded him for wearing formal outfits which Babul had chosen given it was performances with none other than Asha Bhosle. He said, “Didi didn’t say anything for the first two shows when I wore my planned formal attire of suit and tie but before the third show she told me to wear clothes that suits my age and such formal dresses only made me look older and boring. She suggested I should wear smart jeans, T-shirts ans casual jackets. It came as a surprise to me but instantly put me at ease. The very next day, I went out and bought some contemporary casual outfits.”

Babul also recalled how excited he was to receive his first cheque of Rs.40,000 with her signature on it. “Even at her age, Asha ji would do her Riyaz regularly. She said that a singer should always read the lyrics of the song 3/4 times, understand it, rigorously practise the tune with the music director and only then go to the mic to record it. Sadly that routine is almost gone and songs are sent to the singers on messaging platforms. The singers are expected to learn the song well before they reach the studio. Very rarely does a singer get to sit on a harmonium with the music director,” he said.

While concluding, he lamented that about a year back he got a call from Nandubhai about a show but then it did not happen. “Everyone who got to know her personally will immensely miss her, the person Asha Bhosle, but her songs shall live in our hearts & souls for eternity,” Babul ended.

The Best Radio Station award went to Radio City, Best Male RJ was RJ Jeeturaaj of Radio Mirchi and Best Female RJ to RJ Malishka (Red FM).
All the radio stations of Maharashtra, as well as the community stations, participated in this event wholeheartedly.

As Maharashtra takes a step forward in celebrating radio culture, the Government of Maharashtra, Cultural Department, along with the organiser Henal Mehta, stood as a shining example of creativity and excellence in the cultural field.

Since last year, the Mangeshkar family and the Trust (all the Trustees are family members), have decided to institute an Award in the honour and memory of Hon’ble Bharat Ratna Lata Didi. This award will be known as the “Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Puraskar”. This award is given every year to an individual who has made pathbreaking and exemplary contribution to our nation, its people and our society. The first Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Puraskar was awarded to the Hon Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi ji last year.
This year, the Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Puraskar will be awarded to veteran singer and Lata didi’s younger sister Smt. Asha Bhosale. Pandit Hridaynath Mangeshkar will preside over the function.

The recipients will be as follows. Asha Bhosale will be honoured with the prestigious Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Puraskar, Pankaj Udhas with the Master Deenanath Mangeshkar Puraskar for Contribution to Indian Music, Gauri Theaters of Prashant Damle Fan Foundation for Best Drama of the Year – Niyam Va Ati Lagu, Shri Sadguru Seva Sangh Trust for yeoman Social Service, Granthali Prakashan with the Vagvilasini Puraskar for contribution to Literature, Prasad Oak with the Vishesh Puraskar for contribution to Cinema and Drama and Vidya Balan with the Vishesh Puraskar for contribution to Cinema.

“Mimicry is a form of comedy that I chose to do and I feel that very few people are skilled at it. I have a knack for it, so I wanted to use it to push myself in the field and it has been a big advantage for me. Actually, it was not dad but Ashaji (Bhosle) was the first personality whom I mimicked, and that’s how I began this fun-filled business of imitation. Mujhe dad ki mimicry toh karni bhi nahi thi, aur mujhe aati bhi nahi thi (Honestly, I never wanted to and I did not even know how to mimic him). But it’s always a request from people when I perform,” Jamie expressed.

Sharing how she learnt to mimic her father, Jamie said, “I remember when I was doing a comedy show on TV, the director asked me to mimic dad, and I was left clueless. Then, my co-star from the show, Mubeen Saugdagar, taught me the tricks to mimic him. So, I learnt to mimic dad from Mubeen and then started doing it on people’s requests.”

Talking about the never-ending public opinions, Jamie said, “While to some, it may feel like I’m trying to grab eyeballs with dad’s mimicry, it is not so; I’m working hard on my own. I have decided to do everything possible to entertain people and show my talent.”

From their childhood tales to rumored rivalry, Asha ji fondly remembers how their mother called Lata Di and her Saku -Taku respectively as they were always so close to each other. The 8-episode series has more than 20 of India’s biggest artists join hands to pay tribute to the immortal singer Lata Mangeshkar.

In the upcoming episode, Asha ji remembers their childhood and says, “In other households kids used to sit and learn and revise tables, but in our house we used to light the evening diya, Lata Di would sit with the Tanpura and make all of us sing.” Asha ji further shared, “Lata Di had read somewhere that if you drink water from your parents’ feet, it will do you good in life, so she asked me to get some water and she let it flow through our aai and baba’sfeet, she believed we’d do well in life as we are blessed with our parents charan amrith. I truly think their blessings have always been with us.”

Before leaving, Asha ji told Sonu Nigam, “Singing alongside Didi is like pahad se takraana. Hence it was satisfyingly challenging. It was difficult to get a ‘waah’ from her but I did get her ‘waah’ for ‘Man kyu behka re behka aadhi raat ko’, and it is something I will always cherish”
