Inspector Avinash actor Harjinder Singh likes bhajans and kirtans during the festival time. “Janmashtami is a celebration of the birth of Lord Krishna. I’ve seen one or two Dahi Handis. The good thing about Janmashtami is that the bhajans and kirtans take place in temples, and that adds to the positivity,” he shared.

“The kind of content that I usually put up is about things that I usually don’t discuss on social media. Avinash has no fixed schedule as to how many videos he would post in a day, week, month or how many times. He mostly makes videos whenever he finds something interesting and gets time. “I post mostly on Sundays because fans of Sasural Simar Ka 2 keep telling me that today we have nothing to watch and nothing to look forward to, so I give them something to enjoy during the weekends. But, honestly, there’s no fixed schedule or time,” shares the actor.

Having a YouTube channel is a nice way to communicate with fans. “I like YouTube, which is an audio-visual format. Whenever I browse the space to consume content, I enjoy doing that a lot because you learn as well as get entertained here. Like on Instagram and other social media, it’s just scrolling and browsing, but YouTube has everything. You can look up whatever interests you and it is there,” he explains.

Final words on his channel, Avinash says, “I would request people to watch my videos, subscribe and share feedback so that I know what more can be done. Actress Sneha Namanandi: 15th August reminds us of how our freedom fighters passionately fought for the country’s freedom. It is an overwhelming day for every Indian. It has a great impact on me. For me, it’s a day when I remind myself that we are powerful, strong and free. My favourite freedom fighter is Bhagat Singh. He was a brave revolutionary. Whenever I read about him, I get goosebumps. Sure, I attend the flag hoisting ceremony. In fact, we all should. Though the flag is a belief system, for me it is my pride.

Actress Meera Deosthale: Independence means following your heart and having the freedom to do so. It is nice to be important, but it is more important to be nice. My favourite freedom fighter is Mahatma Gandhi who practised non-violence. My favourite patriotic song is “Sandese Aate Hai” from the film “Border”. Pandemic has taught us to value life.

Actress Jasmin Bhasin: Independence means living life with a lot of responsibilities. India is a progressive nation and we need to value all that we have. We should focus on what we can be. We, as a nation, have huge potential. My favorite patriotic song is ‘Teri Mitti’ from ‘Kesari’. When you listen to patriotic songs, you do feel good about your country. If I can do the same for my child, I think then I’ll be able to bring her up rightly in an independent world. My favourite freedom fighter would be Bhagat Singh because studying in the north and then being exposed to so much, I like the ideology that such a young guy had, that spirit to make sure that his future generations would live in a free India still gives me goosebumps. I mean even though he shot the Britisher but he did it in honour of Lala Lajpat Rai back in that day and that was a big thing. To be selfless for your country is inspiring. I personally like Vande Mataram for the simple reason that I’ve heard so many renditions of Vande Mataram. My favourite is AR Rahman’s version.

Actress Delnaaz Irani: Independence means being responsible and also being able to follow your heart at the same time. We get one life and we must make the most of it. Life is in present. We are part of the progressive nation and we must respect our freedom fighters, who got us freedom after a lot of struggle and blood on August 15, 1947. My favourite freedom fighter is Rani Laxmibai. She was a true warrior. My favourite song is Har Karm Apna Karege from the film “Karma”.

Actor Avinash Mukherjee: I think it’s a very important day for our nation. Every single Indian gets emotional on this day when the Indian flag is hoisted and the National Anthem is sung. Any patriotic films of Akshay Kumar have not failed at the box office. My favourite freedom fighter is Bhagat Singh. At the age of 23, he actually sacrificed his life for the country, and in our 20s, some of us get sad, depressed or think of ending our lives for a simple thing like a girl rejecting our proposal. We should be strong-headed and thick-skinned. My favourite song is Aye mere watan ke logo.

Actor Dusshyant Wag: Independence is freedom in every sense, to be able to live life with our own thoughts, choices and ideologies. To be able to express without any fear, to be able to understand people as an individual and their thoughts without any prejudice or biases, also defines independence. The very first name that comes to my mind when I think of freedom fighters is Vinayak Damodar Savarkar aka ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar’. He was the Hero! He was a visionary! His bravery, his vision, his foresight was extraordinary. Despite his immense contribution in India’s freedom fight, we, unfortunately, don’t hear a lot about him, for whatever reason. You will know what I mean if you happen to read about him. If he would have been inactive in politics after independence, India would have been on different horizons today. There are quite a few favourite songs of mine which fall under the category of conventional ‘patriotic songs’. But I love these creations purely on creative grounds and keep listening to them every now and then. My love toward these songs is not restricted to just Independence Day or Republic Day. I love all the songs in the films, The Legend of Bhagat Singh and Border. My all-time favourite song has been Maa Tujhe salaam by A R Rahman.

“As an actor I feel it’s very important not to set extreme standards of fashion but maintain a desirable image. I follow that in my line of work. I am mostly a person who believes in comfort wear. I don’t usually take style advice from people but I have developed my own style over the years. I think style is also instinctive. It should be that way because that means you are ready to experiment and explore,” he explains.

Mukherjee says different kinds of clothes express different moods. “When I am wearing a T-shirt and jeans I feel different compared to the time I am wearing a suit, with a matching tie, cufflinks and shoes. But then both make me feel good. Clothes we wear are a reflection of us, but that does not mean that we have the right to judge a person by what he or she is wearing. You never know what is going on inside a person or why he or she is wearing something,” he adds.

The actor does not really shop much but whenever he buys he prefers “expensive but quality stuff which will last a long time”. He does not splurge a lot unless it is required or he has liked something.

“I feel we all should develop and nurture our signature style. There is no point in aping others. I follow what I feel fashionable. And when I say expensive I will buy about 2-3 suits in like 4-5 years but I make sure that they are branded, custom tailored, can be worn for different occasions and can be mixed and matched. I don’t wear anything that makes me uncomfortable,” he wraps up.

The occasion of Guru Purnima has a great significance in our lives. On this day, we pay homage to our academic and spiritual teachers, who gave us direction, prepared us for the journey ahead and made us better human beings. The day, also known as Vyasa Purnima, will be observed on July 24. Talking about the mentors in their lives, celebrities share about how their gurus and their guru mantras have been their guiding force and have changed their lives.

Avinash Mukherjee : I consider my Dad as my first guru but there are others in my life who also act as my gurus. I’ve learnt the best from all my seniors and elders. Monu, who used to be my AD in Balika Vadhu, said that anyone can be a good actor but being a good person that is very important. Then Partho da director of Itna Karo Na Mujhe Pyaar said that in filmmaking, waiting comes first and creation comes second. These are few thoughts which I have always remembered by them.

Sagar Parekh : My guru is Shree Pramukh Swami Maharaj who belongs to the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha *(PLEASE CONFIRM)*, the same sansthan which Akshar Dham is a part of. Although I didn’t have much chance to meet him except for a few times, I think that was enough for me because the lessons he taught guided me and made my life better. The guru mantra that has definitely changed my life is that the most peace giving act would be of letting go of the situation and the people. I have been following him since school… One of the times I met him was when I was in class 10. I went to Kolkata and there is a temple being built by the BAPS. I went there to offer my services to build the temple, I used to pick up bricks, clean, help in cooking and cut vegetables. I stayed there for two months. I met a lot of oter sanyasis as well and that changed my perception towards my Guru and my life. Every time I meet Shree Pramukh Swami Maharaj, I feel enlightened.

Mahreen Khan : I think time is the greatest guru anybody can have. There have been a lot of people in my life in different stages but almost all of them are female who helped me throughout my life and career. I have been surrounded by strong women and that has shaped me well.

Mrunal Jain : My mother is like my Guru. I always take her blessings and advice for work opportunities. She always tells me to not get disheartened by disappointments. She believed in me when I decided to get into acting and encouraged it. I would have not been an actor if she hadn’t supported me.

Vivaan Arora : Without a Guru, you can’t grow in life. Life is full of ups and downs and having someone who can guide you as your guru is so helpful. For me, my Guru is my dad. He taught me to trust god in every situation acha waqt nai raha to bura bhi nai rahega.

Ashish Shrivastav : In my lifetime, I have had many mentors and one of the firsts was Rakesh Malhotra whom I have worked with in Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki and we are still in touch. Then Partho Mitra, Santram Varma… they have all taught something or the other in my career and I try to remember that. Surekha died following a cardiac arrest at a hospital in suburban Mumbai on Friday morning at the age of 75. The three-time National Award-winning actor may have enthralled the audience with her various roles however one of her best-loved performances is from the popular daily show “Balika Vadhu”. Surekha played the role of matriarch Kalyanidevi more popularly known as Dadisa. The Colors channel show, set in a small town in Rajasthan, highlighted the issue of child marriage.

Touted to be one of the longest running shows on television, actor Shashank Vyas entered “Balika Vadhu” after it went for a leap. The actor, who played the role of grown-up Jagdish alias Jagya, referred to Surekha as a legend and an institution of acting.

“Surekha ji was an institution herself. She was a legend, a natural actress, full of life, positivity, and lived life on her own terms. Maybe I must have done something good in my life, that I got a chance to work with her. I learnt a lot in those five years while working with her on the show,” he says. Echoing similar views, actor Avinash Mukherjee, who essayed the part of young Jagya, in the show, says Surekha was an actor par-excellence and he was enamored with her honesty and dedication towards her craft.

“What I remember mostly about Surekha ji is her discipline. I remember, she would never read the script in English, as the pronunciations of certain words would change. So she used to come to the set every morning, lock her room, and write each and every dialogue in Hindi and then would read from there. That’s something I learnt from her, and is a practise I follow even today,” Avinash says. Like Shashank, Avinash too says he learnt a lot from Surekha merely by observing her.

“She is someone I have learnt the most from, and she is truly one of the greatest actors. Every emotion she ever portrayed onscreen has come across as honest to the core,” Avinash adds. Shashank says his relationship with Surekha went beyond work as the two would often chat for hours on various things.

“We both shared a very close bond. I had met her to check on her health, when we sat and spoke for two hours. I will miss her,” a teary-eyed Shashank says. Off-camera, Shashank says Surekha, was a jovial person with a great sense of humour. While Avinash recalls how Surekha would plant a kiss on his cheek and forehead every day. “She loved me a lot. Everyday she used to kiss me on my cheek and forehead on the set, and I am just too disheartened right now. May her soul rest in peace,” he says.

The demise of Surekha has left a dent in the world of art and cinema, which may not be filled by anyone, however her work, like Shashank and Avinash said, will continue to inspire generations of actors.
