‘Bandra Fair’ (Mount Mary Fair) is a festive event that celebrates the birth of the Virgin Mary. Every year “Feast of the Nativity” is celebrated by Mount Mary Basilica at Bandra, marking the birth anniversary of Mother Mary. The festival used to draw the attention of lacs of people every year, however, this is the second year that the annual fair is being discontinued owing to pandemic restrictions.

Even though the fair with stalls and entertainment is cancelled, the basilica is taking a digital route just like the previous year. Masses during the Novena and Octave Feast will be streaming live on TV and mobile on Tata Sky Darshan at no extra cost, from 3rd until 19th September, enabling the worshipper to pray from the safety of their homes. The live feed is also available on Tata Sky Mobile App and Tata Sky Binge+. Masses will be conducted in English followed by local languages, including Konkani, Marathi, Tamil, Malayalam, and Gujarati, a different local language daily.

The feast of the Nativity of the blessed virgin Mary which is celebrated extensively in Our Lady of the Mount, Bandra attracts lacs of people every year, who gather to pray and give offerings during the 17 days of festivities. Ordinarily, the main attraction during this time is the famous ‘Bandra Fair’ which marks the celebration of Mother Mary’s birthday. However, for the first time in 200 years, the annual fair will not take place due to Covid -19 pandemic restrictions.

Although the fair with stalls and entertainment might be cancelled, the basilica has decided to take the digital route this year. Masses during the Novena and Octave Feast will be relayed live to the audience on Tata Sky Darshan, from 4^th to 20^th September. This cognisant initiative by Tata Sky allows devotees to uphold their celebrations and offer prayers from the safety of their homes.

To continue the tradition of attending Mass during this auspicious period, the church authorities received thousands of requests to telecast the Masses on television allowing families to attend Mass together, especially for the convenience of the elderly. Post which the Church reached out to Tata Sky to telecast the festivities digitally and it was also made free for subscribers.

Masses will be delivered in English followed by local languages including Konkani, Marathi, Tamil, Malayalam and Gujarati, a different local language daily. Subscribers can watch live feed from the comfort of their homes by tuning into Tata Sky Darshan by pressing the Actve/Apps button on remote > Selecting Tata Sky Darshan – FREE from the menu > Selecting Mount Mary Basilica, Bandra or through the Tata Sky Mobile App at no extra cost.
