British mystery thriller Guilt will be produced by #AdityaBirlaGroup’s Applause Entertainment in association with BBC Studios India, the partners announced today. The Indian version of Guilt, which is yet to be titled, will be directed by Shaad Ali with Jaideep Ahlawat and Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub playing the lead roles.

Applause Entertainment, the content studio from the Aditya Birla Group, led by media veteran Sameer Nair has been at the forefront of presenting the most captivating narratives to the Indian audiences. The studio has successfully adapted the best international formats to cater to the Indian preferences with shows like Hostages and Your Honor amongst a list of international shows which includes Call My Agent and Fauda . Applause Entertainment and BBC Studios have already successfully partnered on other popular dramas for the Indian market, including Criminal Justice and the forthcoming Rudra – The Edge of Darkness (an adaptation of Neil Cross’ Luther).

The original series of the award-winning British drama Guilt was created and produced by Happy Tramp North and Expectation for BBC Scotland and BBC Two. Set in Edinburgh, the British series sees two estranged brothers thrown together by tragedy and united by guilt, with riveting plot twists and a strong vein of black humour.

The Indian version of Guilt will revolve around the lives of brothers, Jaggi and Daljeet. While the elder brother Jaggi enjoys the comfort of a wealthy and seemingly perfect life, the younger one Daljeet struggles to survive running a vintage book shop cum café. Their life spins out of control when a tragic accident occurs and distrust starts enveloping their lives, creating a rift between them and everyone around.

Boasting an exceptional cast, the series is headlined by Jaideep Ahlawat and Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub, both credited for their riveting portrayals on screen along with a terrific ensemble of Tina Desai, Shruti Seth, Maya Alagh, Mugdha Godse and Satish Kaushik. Produced by Applause Entertainment in association with BBC Studios India, the six-part enthralling series will be directed by the talented Shaad Ali.

Sameer Nair, CEO, Applause Entertainment said, “Guilt is a wonderful addition to the prolific partnership we have with BBC Studios. Backed by our common intent to deliver the most clutter breaking and sought-after stories to the Indian audiences, we have successfully experimented with global formats, interpreting them to suit the Indian cultural context. As an account of altering moralities in the face of adversity, Guilt cements itself as yet another splendid thriller that is sure to find resonance amongst viewers. The show is being directed by Shaad Ali and stars a fantastic ensemble of actors who will raise the stakes of an already delightfully twisted tale”

Director Shaad Ali said, “It is a pleasure to partner with Applause Entertainment again for Guilt, a series that promises a perfect mix of a well-crafted story and stupendous actors. The concept is highly engaging, and we have strongly endeavoured with Applause to bring home yet another global format which oscillates between the nuances of brotherhood, suspicion and consequences of choice. I am sure the show will manage to strike a chord with the audience.”

Sameer Gogate, General Manager – BBC Studios India shared, “This series is a leap ahead in our steady and growing partnership with Applause and our shared vision of bringing genre-bending premium content to Indian audiences. We are looking forward to another exciting journey of mounting a show that brings in the essence of realism in fiction, coupled with a stellar star cast and director who will light up the screens with their performances.”

The post #ApplauseEntertainment jointly with #BBCStudios to adapt British mystery drama thriller ‘#Guilt’! first appeared on Latest News, Breaking News, National News, World News, India News, Bollywood News, Business News, Politics News, Sports News, Entertainment News - CineBuster.

Produced by Applause Entertainment in association with BBC Studios, directed by Rohan Sippy and Arjun Mukerjee and written by written by Apurva Asrani ‘Criminal Justice’ is coming up with a chapter 2 titled Criminal Justice: Behind Closed Doors’. Apart from featuring Pankaj Tripathi, Kirti Kulhari, Anupria Goenka, the ensemble cast also features, Shilpa Shukla, Deepti Naval, Jisshu Sengupta, Mita Vashisht, Ashish Vidhyarthi and more.

After the runaway success of Criminal Justice last year, Hotstar Specials is set to launch the next chapter in the franchise titled Criminal Justice: Behind Closed Doors. One of India’s most loved characters Madhav Mishra returns for what is deemed as the toughest case of his career. The prime accused Anu Chandra has confessed to stabbing her husband, an eminent lawyer – Bikram Chandra and is guilty in the eyes of law. While many believe it to be an open-and-shut case, Anu’s subsequent silence and unwillingness to defend herself begs the question – is there more to the case than what meets the eye? With a bold and unexpected narrative, it seeks to find the truth and raises some pressing questions.

Reprising their roles in the show are actors Pankaj Tripathi – who effortlessly brings to life the character of Madhav Mishra, and Anupriya Goenka as Nikhat Hussain – his unlikely partner in the case. Kirti Kulhari takes centre-stage with her portrayal of Anu Chandra. Criminal Justice: Behind Closed Doors features an ensemble cast including powerhouse talents Deepti Naval, Mita Vashisht, Ashish Vidyarthi, Jisshu Sengupta, Shilpa Shukla, Pankaj Saraswat, Ayaz Khan, Kalyanee Mulay, Ajeet Singh Palawat, Khushboo Atre, Tirrtha Murbadkar and others. Produced by Applause Entertainment in association with BBC Studios, this 8-part courtroom drama series has been directed by Bollywood’s Rohan Sippy, Arjun Mukerjee and written by Apurva Asrani; and is set to launch on 24th December 2020 in 7 languages on Disney+ Hotstar VIP.

Gaurav Banerjee, President & Head – Hindi and English Entertainment, STAR India, “The response for the first chapter of Criminal Justice was phenomenal; it was our biggest show last year! With a keen focus on writing and a stellar star cast, it ushered in a new form of storytelling. Criminal Justice: Behind Closed Doors takes that legacy forward – it is a riveting drama that will grip you till the very end, while raising questions on pressing societal issues. We are excited to once again partner with Applause Entertainment and hope to make this show a firm fan favourite.”

Commenting on the launch Applause Entertainment CEO, Sameer Nair, said “Criminal Justice season 1 was the first show to launch from the house of Applause and marks the beginning of our very special and successful partnership with Hotstar Specials. The new season of this powerful franchise carries forward the key characters from the previous season played by Pankaj Tripathi, Mita Vashist, Anupriya Goenka, Pankaj Saraswat and others who find themselves at opposing ends yet again for a case involving a seemingly ordinary housewife caught in the web of the legal and judicial system. Halted briefly by the pandemic, this show was successfully completed thanks to the efforts of the entire cast, crew and teams at Hotstar Specials, BBC Studios and Applause.”

Director Rohan Sippy said, “A lot of research has gone behind the making of Criminal Justice: Behind Closed Doors, and it was crucial for us to approach the storyline insightfully and sensitively. We don’t often see portrayals of women accused of brutal crimes, and this is definitely one of the few shows that probes this aspect deeply. The series will make you question the very reality of today’s time.”

Actor Pankaj Tripathi said, “It’s heartening to know that Madhav Mishra made such an impression on audiences that the makers brought him back for the second chapter – I hope that I can live up to the expectations! What I love about this character is his humility and quirk that cuts through intense moments with such humor and grace. Criminal Justice: Behind Closed Doors is a gripping show from start to finish and I think will be an eye-opener for many.”

Actor Kirti Kulhari added, “Anu has been the most challenging character of my career till date. With relatively lesser portrayals of female-criminals on screen, I had to think about how I wanted this character to appear on screen – even when the odds are against her, she does not lose her dignity and maintains a stoic silence. It’s a compelling story that will leave you guessing till the very end– It’s a great binge-watch!”

Criminal Justice: Behind Closed Doors is one of the few stories in India to showcase the life and ordeal of women in prison. Find out what happens behind closed doors in this 8-part series, Criminal Justice : Behind Closed Doors, set to launch on 24thDecember 2020 in 7 languages on Disney+ Hotstar VIP.

The post A story where the answer lies beyond the truth, ‘Criminal Justice: Behind Closed Doors’ first appeared on Latest News, Breaking News, National News, World News, India News, Bollywood News, Business News, Politics News, Sports News, Entertainment News - CineBuster.
