Sumit Rane (#PrasadOak) is an investigative journalist who resigns from his job after being reprimanded by his editor (Anant Mahadevan) while pursuing a murder story. Though his girlfriend (Ruchira Jadhav) tries to reason with him, he remains adamant. The narrative then shifts from an urban setting to a rural one, where Bhanudas (#BhushanManjule), a toy seller, struggles to make ends meet. His wife (#UrmilaJagtap) stands firmly by his side. An ardent fan of Amitabh Bachchan, Bhanudas creates reels on Big B’s songs and enjoys modest fame as a “Reelstar.” A bomb explosion leaves him without his motorcycle, and while tracing it, he accidentally uncovers several political wrongdoings. What unfolds from here forms the core of the film.

Although the story is set in a Maharashtra village, it carries a distinctive Southern aroma. The screenplay feels overly stretched, which dilutes the impact of its central theme. The editor could have trimmed several repetitive portions to make the narrative tighter. The music is appealing and elevates key moments, while the cinematography is striking, and the action choreography clearly reflects Southern influences.

Prasad Oak delivers a solid performance, bringing sincerity to his role. Bhushan Manjule impresses, especially in emotional scenes. Milind Shinde is outstanding, and the supporting cast—including Swapnil Rajshekhar, Urmila Jagtap, Ruchira Jadhav, Vijay Patkar, and Kailash Waghmare—adds good value to the film.

Reelstar delivers a relevant social message, wrapped neatly in Southern-style storytelling.

‘Reel Star’ is produced under the banners of JFives Entertainments and Initiative Films. Simmy Joseph, the director of the multi-starrer ‘Anya’, and Robin Varghese are directing ‘Reelstar’. Bhushan Manjule has got an opportunity to play the hero in such an important film. Bhushan has previously played a supporting role in Marathi films like ‘Fandry’, ‘Sairat’, ‘Karkhanisanchi Wari’, ‘Ghar Banduk Biryani’ as well as in the Hindi film ‘Zund’. He will be seen in the lead role for the first time in ‘Reelstar’.

The characters played by Bhushan have always been appreciated. Therefore, the role in ‘Reelstar’ will hopefully be liked by the audience. Bhushan is working hard for this film and is studying hard to present the nuances of his character in front of the camera. Regarding the selection of Bhushan, Simmy Joseph said, “We wanted a fresh face for the role of the hero, who should not feel new to the audience.” Bhushan is known to the audience as he has acted in many films. Bhushan was selected as his acting style is good and he is sure that he can do proper justice to the role in the film. The moment Bhushan heard the story, he was overwhelmed. He gladly accepted the offer of ‘Reelstar’, a film with a different storyline.

The screenplay and dialogues are credited to Robin Varghese and Sudhir Kulkarni. Along with Bhushan, it stars Urmila Jagtap, Prasad Oak, Ruchira Jadhav, Milind Shinde, Swapnil Rajshekhar, Suhas Joshi, Vijay Patkar, Kailas Waghmare, Mahesh Subedar, Shivaji Patne, Mahendra Patil, Deepak Pandey, Ganesh Revdekar, Abhinav Patekar and child actors Arjun Gaykar, Tanishka Mhadse. Cinematographer Shinob has done the cinematography and Rahul Sharma has done the production design. Mahendra Patil is the creative producer of the film and Nandu Achrekar is the Associate director. Music is composed by Vinu Thomas and lyrics are by Guru Thakur, Mandar Cholkar and Prashant Jamdar.
