Mumbai: Madam Ashwini Bhide, you now hold one of the most powerful civic positions in Asia—an office that has long shaped not just the city’s growth, but also a system that quietly profits from its own permissions. This institution has, over decades, built a structure where approvals and violations coexist—one enabling the other in a continuous cycle.Today, Mumbai watches you closely—not because the system is unknown, but because there is a rare belief that someone might finally acknowledge it.

There is a growing sense that this moment could mark a shift from silent acceptance to visible accountability.

Step into the city—not through reports or meetings—but on the ground, early in the morning when reality is most unfiltered.
Observe firsthand how everyday life exposes the gap between planning and lived experience.

In areas like Andheri, Vile-Parle, Santacruz, Jogeshwari, Tilak Nagar, Ghatkopar, Dadar, and Goregaon, residents exit newly redeveloped towers only to face a basic problem—no legal place to park.

Despite owning homes and vehicles lawfully, they are pushed into inevitable violations due to lack of infrastructure.

They circle their neighborhoods repeatedly until compulsion replaces choice, eventually #parking outside their own buildings.

Soon after, enforcement arrives with precision, issuing fines as part of a routine that repeats daily.

Now widen the lens.

Look beyond individuals to the structures themselves.

These buildings, symbols of urban progress, house hundreds in conditions that resemble vertical congestion rather than planned living.

Inside, parking is insufficient; outside, roads are already overburdened by vehicles and encroachments.

Shift focus again—to documentation.
Across Mumbai, numerous buildings remain without #OccupancyCertificates.

These are not hidden irregularities but developments approved, constructed, sold, and occupied under full institutional awareness.

Yet, residents who have fulfilled every financial obligation are told their compliance remains incomplete.

Instead of accountability, they are asked to pay further to regularise what was already permitted.

At this stage, inefficiency gives way to a structured sequence:

Permission → Construction → Partial compliance → Regularisation → Payment

A loop that sustains itself.

What is striking is not just the existence of this cycle, but how deeply it has been accepted as normal governance.

It reflects a system that functions seamlessly, yet produces inequitable outcomes.

The civic body enables density without ensuring livability.

Enforcement agencies act on consequences without questioning their origins.

Responsibilities remain divided enough to avoid blame, yet aligned enough to ensure revenue flows.

In the middle stands the most predictable participant—the middle-class citizen.

Documented, traceable, compliant.

Easily penalised, yet least equipped to resist.

Meanwhile, contradictions remain visible.
Police vehicles occupy public roads—the same spaces where citizens are fined.

Police stations themselves lack parking infrastructure, relying on public roads just like residents.

Yet enforcement rarely turns inward.
Encroachments persist openly, narrowing roads while remaining officially unacknowledged.

#Illegalhoardings on light poles and across entire streets—used by politicians as well as private individuals—continue to dominate public spaces without consequence.

The law does not collapse here—it selectively applies itself.

The pattern becomes clear.

What cannot be supported is approved, what should be prevented is ignored, and the burden of consequences is shifted onto citizens.

Parking fines become routine, regularisation becomes policy, and compliance becomes transactional.

Gradually, governance transforms into a system of revenue collection.

And with that, frustration evolves into awareness.

Citizens now recognise that the same system that sanctioned their homes questions their legality.

They see that the constraints imposed on them are later used to penalise them.

They understand that accountability rarely moves upward—it settles downward with precision.

And this recognition changes the equation.

Inconvenience can be tolerated.

Chaos can be managed.

But sustained, predictable, and institutionalised injustice erodes trust.

It weakens belief in the very system meant to serve.

Mumbai’s middle class has endured decades of inefficiency with resilience and compliance.

But resilience has limits, and compliance cannot survive without fairness.

The city does not need more committees, policy notes, or enforcement announcements.

It requires something far more fundamental—a break in the pattern.

A clear shift where consequences are not punished while causes remain protected.

A system where accountability moves upward to those who approved, overlooked, and designed these structures.

Because the issue is no longer just planning or enforcement—it is misalignment.

Every part of the system performs its role, yet the outcome remains unjust.
And that is more dangerous than inefficiency.

Inefficiency invites correction—but a system that works against its citizens invites resistance.

You now stand at a point where this trajectory can still change.

You can either manage the symptoms or confront the structure itself.

You can allow the system to continue unchallenged—or make it visible enough to question.

Because if change does not come from within, it will eventually come from outside.

And when it does, it will not follow procedure.

It will not be predictable.
It will test the system’s limits—
and it will be far harder to contain.

Mumbai: The new Elphinstone bridge was built by Army’s Bombay Sappers. The 73.1 m long and 3.65 m wide bridge was built in just 117 days, at a cost of ₹ 10.44 Crore approx. Contrastingly on November 16, the Railways wrote to BMC seeking Rs 17 crore for carrying out the demolition work on Gokhale bridge on their territory. Civic officials said that the amount will be disbursed this week.

A TEAM of engineers from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) bridges department, along with technical experts from the Indian Institute of Technology (Mumbai) and Veermata Jijabai Institute of Technology (VJTI), inspected the structural stability of the Gopal Krishna Gokhale Bridge on Sunday morning (20 Nov) to check if the structure could be reopened temporarily for pedestrians and light vehicles till the time it is demolished.

The officials said that the reports will be submitted by the institutions within the next 7-10 days, following which, a final call would be taken on reopening the bridge temporarily. Mr Lodha also floated the idea of reopening the bridge temporarily for pedestrians, two wheelers and auto rickshaws, for smooth traffic flow, till the bridge is demolished entirely.

“The technical survey is being carried out by the agencies to check if the structure is strong enough to take the load of pedestrians and light vehicles. After the VJTI report comes, we will compare it with the IIT report and then, shall make a decision. We need to be doubly sure before taking the call because human lives are involved and the smallest of error could lead to an untoward event,” said an official.

On November 11, the guardian minister of Mumbai (Suburbs) Mangal Prabhat Lodha said that the bridge will be demolished by the Railways, while the BMC will reconstruct it.

Meanwhile, the BMC floated a tender on November 12 for reconstructing the bridge. P Velrasu, Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects), said that the reconstruction work will be taken up on a war footing, since the civic body is planning to reopen one arm of the bridge by May 2023, and aims to completely start the newly constructed bridge by September 2023.

“This will be a prefabricated structure that will be constructed simultaneously at a workshop, while demolition work is on. Once the structure is ready, it will be brought on-site for assembling. We have already floated the tender and hoping to issue work orders by December first week,” Velrasu had said earlier.

The Gokhale Bridge is a major link that connects Andheri east and west in the western suburbs. The bridge was shut for both vehicular and traffic movement from November 7, onwards, after the civic body wrote to the Mumbai Traffic Police citing it to be unsafe. Also one more point to ponder is that the said bridge was partially closed after a mishap in 2020 and no concrete decision was taken by the authorities. It should be enquired into.

It is to be taken into consideration that closure of Gokhale bridge has put extra load on other bridge, viz Capt Gore bridge at Vile Parle, which too connects east and west side of Vile Parle. It is observed that the said bridge is bearing double/triple load of vehicles. Also most of the times the vehicles are stuck in traffic jams on the bridge itself. So the decision to shut down Gokhale bridge will be detrimental on the health of Capt Gore bridge.

Additionally there’s vehicular load on Santacruz’s Milan Flyover bridge too. Traffic congestion is experienced throughout the day here which also leads to noise pollution. The said bridge too will be facing trouble, just like Capt Gore bridge, in future if the current vehicular load is not looked into.

This #GlobalHandwashingday, The #WeFoundation organises ‘#UniversalHandHygiene’ drive at Dharavi in association with #WorldHealthOrganization and #BMC. Amidst the city gearing up for festivities after 2 years of #COVID19, a national #NGO called The We Foundation is hosting a hand hygiene awareness drive in the densely populated region of #Dharavi, as a reminder to not let our guard down. This awareness drive named ‘Care for Hands’ in partnership with VVF , and in association with the #WorldHealthOrganization (#WHO) and #BrihanmumbaiMunicipalCorporation (#BMC) will commence from today, i.e. 11th October to 16th October and will empower over 25,000 children and slum families with the importance of good hand hygiene practices for a healthy living.

The We Foundation is an NGO formed by highly committed professionals from prestigious social UN-WHO, INGO- Rotary and other noteworthy institutions with diverse experience in the development sector and the organization acts as a catalyst in driving change in the lives of the underprivileged families in India. In an endeavour to uplift urban, semi-urban and rural communities, the NGO is set to host a hand hygiene awareness drive in one of the most vulnerable communities like Dharavi to reinforce the importance of hand hygiene and how it can prevent a host of diseases. During this awareness drive, the organisation will also work closely with government bodies like BMC and internationally acclaimed health institutions like WHO to promote hand hygiene and climate for safety, and create a sustainable practice of hand hygiene for a healthy school and community.

Commenting on the initiative, Ms. Nabanita Banerjee, Director of The We Foundation, said, “Team The We Foundation has set out with the mission to uplift urban, semi-urban and rural families through the development and replication of reliable, cost-effective, and technology-based solutions. This awareness drive is a step towards reaching the goal of safety and quality with clean hands through collaboration with Corporates and Government bodies, and equipping school children and communities with knowledge on how a hand hygiene practice can help them prevent diseases and several such health contingencies. We have specially launched the campaign now as we are celebrating Global Handwashing Day on 15th October 2022 and it is in line with the Sustainable Development Goal 6 . . We are planning to expand not only in Mumbai but other parts of Maharashtra and nationally.

As per #BMC guidelines it has to be ensured that hospital beds are used by the patients with severe Covid symptoms only. Also those who can Not isolate themselves at home should be sent to BMC’s quarantine isolation centres.

As per #CentralHealthMinistry, patients with mild symptoms of Covid 19 and/or are asymtomatic should be Home Quarantined rather than Hospitalised. Despite these rules in place, people returning from abroad with no symptoms of Covid 19 are being compelled for Institutional Quarantine.

Read further to know about a recent case of this ‘scam’.

I, Mr Ronnie Rodrigues, alongwith my family and Cine Buster team visited London around Christmas and New Year. We were altogether 14 people (10 adults including me and 4 children). There were reports of Omicron threat in London but we never sensed that. We had a good time in London during the festive season and were in a gleeful mood while returning to our own country. We did RTPCR test in London and everyone’s report was Negative.

On returning to India as per the government guideline all of us went through Rapid Antigen and RTPCR tests. Two of my staff was detained at the airport citing positive Covid report. They were isolated in the airport area and were asked to wait for 8-9 hours for RTPCR report.

But after some time a lady personnel at the airport informed them that their RTPCR report too is positive and they’ll have to go in for Institutional Quarantine. Home quarantine option was tossed away arrogantly. Even when requested for report, the request was turned down saying they’ll get reports at the BKC centre. They were sent to newly opened BKC COVID Isolation centre.

Next day morning one of my staff members’ RTPCR report was received in my mail (all reports were requested on my mail being the head of the organisation) and it showed “Not Detected”. (it proves that the lady at the airport Lied about the second report being Positive.) Surprisingly he was not allowed to go home. It was argued by the Doctors that Not Detected means either positive or negative. I do not understand which English they ‘follow’? It was insisted upon that he do another RTPCR test. My person insisted on to be kept separately at the centre but it still was dangerous health hazard to be surrounded by Covid positive patients.

The third day morning the report was received by me stating the the person is Covid NEGATIVE. The report was timed around 2 am but with numerous reminders he was discharged at 10 am.

Is it not a crime to put a person’s health is being compromised? Isn’t staying with Covid positive patients dangerous to one’s health?

The post Mumbai Airport Covid Testing, a “Scam”! first appeared on Latest News, Breaking News, National News, World News, India News, Bollywood News, Business News, Politics News, Sports News, Entertainment News - CineBuster.

Integrow Asset Management, an alternate investment management company, in collaboration with K West Ward, #BMC along with Assistant Commissioner #ShriVishvasMote launched the Juhu Traffic Island Beautification project in a bid to transform the city in a sustainable manner. As a part of the ‘Adopt A Fallen Tree Pit’ and ‘Make Earth Green Again (MEGA)’ initiative that looks at restoring and beautifying our civic spaces, which were affected by the cyclone Tauktae, this is an essential step in that same direction. The event saw in attendance actor Anupam Bhattacharya, Anish Makwani – Local Councillor, Ramashray Yadav of Intergrow Asset Management, Ramesh Jain of Rishabh World, Vishvas Mote – Assistant Commissioner MCGM K West Ward, architect Niket Deshpande, Shaan Lalwani of Vriksha Nursery, Dr.Anusha Srinivasan Iyer of Make Earth Green Again MEGA Foundation, Yogendra Kachhawa – Nodal Officer of Adopt A Fallen Tree Pit Campaign.

The impressionable Juhu Traffic Island mural, which bears the words ‘Art’, ‘Work’ and ‘Life’, reflects the philosophy that not only resonates with Integrow as a brand, but also mirrors the character of Mumbai and its people. Located at the prominent place Juhu Chowpatty, Mumbai’s iconic landmark, the mural has been restored using Corten Steel and Zinc and is surrounded by lush green plants. The overarching theme reflects the fact that one should aspire to find the right balance in their pursuit of happiness and success with integrity, transparency, and assured growth. Interestingly, this transformative characteristic is also reflected in Integrow’s Art Deco building located at Parel, which also recently underwent a complete revamp. The process not only helped impact the building that was revamped, but has ‘Restored’ the landscape of the surrounding peripheral area and has brought about a positive civic change. The locality has just witnessed an impressive transformation, thanks to the collective expertise of the team at Integrow Asset Management.

While inaugurating the Juhu Traffic Island Beautification project, Assistant Municipal Commissioner K-West Ward Mr. Vishvas Mote said, “Once again, I am delighted to be part of this venture in contributing to the environment. Our ward has put in a lot of effort to regain nature’s beauty, post the recent cyclone that hit our beautiful city. Rebuilding Mumbai’s green cover is definitely going to transform the island and make it a better place. Our contribution will go a long way in helping Mother Nature.”

Talking about the initiative, Mr Ramashray Yadav, Founder & Chief Executive Officer, Integrow Asset Management said, “We find a great opportunity to bring our focus on sustainability to bring transformative change using restoration. With this in mind and with our collaboration with the K West Ward, is going to bring in a positive transformation to Mumbai’s spaces. Even our very own Art Deco building in the Island City of Mumbai, is one of the greatest examples of restoration with sustainability at the heart of it all.”

The post Integrow Asset Management launches Juhu Traffic Island Beautification project! first appeared on Latest News, Breaking News, National News, World News, India News, Bollywood News, Business News, Politics News, Sports News, Entertainment News - CineBuster.

On the eve of #WorldEnvironmentDay, the #BMC’s K West Ward Asst Commissioner Mr. #VishvasMote along with #MakeEarthGreenAgain #MEGAFoundation is starting ‘Be A Tree Parent – Adopt A Fallen Tree Pit’ Campaign to involve societies and residents to adopt one of the 348 fallen tree locations in K West Ward and re-plant the same with an identified fast growing tree species. The move comes in the wake of #CycloneTauktae’s damage to the green cover of Mumbai, with 2363 trees being uprooted and innumerable others losing their branches.

Involving celebs who expressed their desire to motivate the masses, Mote, along with Make Earth Green Again Foundation and Vriksha Nursery, organised a simple yet effective tree plantation act at the hands of renowned actor Ranvir Shorey with son Haroon Shorey and singer-entrepreneur Saniya Saiyad by planting a Sita Ashok (Saraca asoca) tree at the pit where a Wad tree stood along with Local Councilor Smt. Pratima Tai Khopade, Asst. Commisioner MCGM K-West Ward Shri Vishvas Mote, Anusha Srinivasan Iyer of Make Earth Green Again MEGA Foundation and Shaan Lalwani of Vruksha and Nodal Officer of Adopt A Fallen Tree Pit Shri Yogendra Kachhawa and Municipal Staff of K-West Ward.

“After the inauguration at the hands of Hon MP Hema Maliniji, a lot of local citizens have expressed their desire to become tree parents. lt is indeed a great feeling to have citizens’ support in restoring our Ward’s green cover,” enthused Vishvas Mote.

“Trees are the lungs of the earth. They help our planet breathe by turning carbon dioxide into oxygen, besides being the planet’s air conditioning system. It is indeed a great move by the BMC Asst Commissioner Vishvas Mote to involve citizens in the civic body’s move to adopt a tree planted at each place a tree fell during the Cyclone Tauktae,” added Anusha Srinivasan Iyer, Founder, Make Earth Green Again MEGA Foundation.

“I was quite sad to see this big old tree succumb to the cyclone, so I’m very happy that the authorities are planting another one,” said Ranvir Shorey.

Saniya Saiyad expressed, “I am elated that the BMC is stressing on the importance of planting native plants, and today I am actually joining the league of those who plant native plant species. Indigenous trees require less water, and by planting them we are actually doing the surrounding wildlife a favour.”

The post Ranvir Shorey too joins ‘Be A Tree Parent – Adopt A Fallen Tree Pit’ Campaign! first appeared on Latest News, Breaking News, National News, World News, India News, Bollywood News, Business News, Politics News, Sports News, Entertainment News - CineBuster.
