With not just an influential surname to his credit, Yash Kapoor’s passion for music has made him one of the most sought-after music talents in Bollywood. Post the success of his debut song ‘Teeja’ from the recently released movie ‘Bob Biswas’ starring Abhishek Bachchan, Yash started his journey as a singer.

Having proved his mettle with successful films including ‘Badla’, ‘Section 375’, ‘Super 30’, ‘Chehre’ and ‘Bhoot Police’ among others, Yash made his debut as a singer with the song Teeja, composed by Clinton Cerejo And Bianca Gomes AKA Shor Police. ‘Bob Biswas’ was hugely appreciated and critically-acclaimed for the intriguing plot, impeccable performances and fascinating musical score.

“Teeja is a nostalgic romantic ballad that brings out the complex nature of Bob’s past relationships. When Bianca & I were composing, the way the melody was shaping up, we decided to ask Yash to sing it for us. He’s an integral part of the Groove Room, my studio facility as a music producer and is a fantastic singer as well. It totally worked for the song. Once he recorded it, there was no doubt in our minds. Incidentally, Yash being a part of our Shor Police Live setup, also understands where we are coming from as songwriters and he’s able to deliver what we’re looking for, right off the bat,” shared Clinton Cerejo and Bianca Gomes.

“It’s indeed a dream come true to have such a successful musical year. I’m immensely grateful for the opportunities that came my way. The music dynamic is changing rapidly. There is a lot of interesting fusion occurring with folk and western elements added to mainstream Bollywood numbers. I’m looking forward to experimenting different genres to explore music and push the envelope as a composer, singer and performer,” the musical star on rise affirms.

While Yash has been a part of YouTube Originals ‘Arrived’ – a reality show judged by A R Rahman, Shaan, Vidya Vox and Clinton Cerejo, the composer-singer has also recently composed and sung a song titled Pighla Pighla for a feature film titled ‘Urf Ghanta’, which is streaming on ShemarooMe.

Bob Biswas is an ordinary citizen of Kolkata. If one passed by him on the street, one would not even notice him. But this was a plus for his profession as a contract killer. This time around, after coming out of coma, Bob Biswas (Abhishek Bachchan) is brought home by his wife Mary (Chitrangada Singh). He has lost his memory and doesn’t recognise anyone including his wife. They have two children, a daughter from David, her first husband, Mini (Samara Tijori) and Benny (Ronith Arora). Mary works in an office where her boss (Amar Upadhyay) always tries to be pally with her. Here Bob is traced by two special branch police personnel and forces him to continue his contract killing job. As a cover he restarts his job as an insurance agent and keeps killing people as a part of his principle job. In Kolkata, a drug menace is prevalent and ‘attention deficiency’ drug named Blue is in demand especially with students as they believe that it helps them concentrate more while studying. Bob’s step-daughter Mini too falls for it and when Bob finds out about it an altercation happens. Viewers may remember, while watching the movie, the drug cases involving celebrities on national television. The mystery around Bob Biswas thickens as he goes on a murder spree.

The scripting is not taut enough to make viewers to sit on the edge of the seat. The timely gongs required in the screenplay are missing. The story unfolds straight forwardly which is unable to instil fear in viewers’ minds. This time around Sujoy Ghosh did not direct the film but his daughter Diya Annapurna Ghosh has taken the mantle. She is good but experience of Sujoy could have made the film more tighter. The writing doesn’t delve into the psychological aspects of Bob’s character not it offers explanation for his behaviour. It’s a good attempt to focus on drugs menace spreading to youngsters and it has been picturised effectively. The music is good, especially the song ‘Tu To gaya…’, played wherever Bob ventures out to kill. Background is excellent and sound designing is world class. Cinematography too is excellent. Dim lighting is used effectively to portray the tone of the scenes.

Abhishek Bachchan who plays Bob Biswas had an added responsibility of matching up to Saswata Chatterjee’s menacing demeanour from Kahani and shedding his star image. He has worked hard for the characterisation and convincingly looks the part. He has picked up typical mannerism while in different situations. Abhishek delivers a fine performance and emotes well. This could be his one of the best performances. Chitrangada Singh looks beautiful and justifies the character whom everyone around her wants to marry her. She too impresses in the limited screen time. Others have delivered fine performances but two of them require special mention. An Assamese actor Pabitra Rabha as Dhonu and Bengali actor Paran Bandopadhyay as Kali Da. Pabitra has played his intricate character with ease and Paran sir is a delight to watch on screen. His characterisation, dialogue delivery and presence are excellent and no one will be surprised if Kali Da is brought in as a lead character in Kahani 3.

All in all, Bob Biswas (pronounced Bob Bishaas), is thriller worth watching.

Says a source, “Chitrangda has always believed that if you look like the character you’re essaying, the portrayal looks authentic and convincing. She was on a food binge to put on the extra kilos. She was also off cardio for a few months to hasten the weight gain.” When asked about it, Chitrangda confirms, “I have a chiselled face and so I needed to put on a little bit of weight to look fuller for the character I play in the movie. I didn’t want look too worked out. I shunned cardio for a few months to gain some kilos. I ate pretty much everything I liked.”

As far as looking the part goes, the actress is au naturel because she has the features of a bong girl and has been often mistaken as one in Kolkata. The viewers have much to look forward to as Singh’s highly anticipated film chronicles the backstory of Bollywood’s rare assassin. Moreover, Chitrangda will be essaying the role of a homemaker in the interesting narrative.

Says Chitrangda, “I absolutely love the handloom craft of Bengal. It was one of the main reasons why I was excited about being stationed in Kolkata. I bought sarees fashioned from Murshidabadi silk , Tussar silk and the famous Baluchari saree.” The spin-off movie that the actress is shooting currently for, tells the backstory of Bollywood’s rare assassin from the National Award-winning movie, Kahaani. Although it is revealed that Bachchan essays the title role, Singh’s role is still under wraps. Given that the actress has always chosen films that take the cause of cinema forward, there is quite a bit of mystery surrounding her character in the upcoming Diya Annapurna Ghosh directorial.

Apart from Bob Biswas, the other professional commitment that is in the pipeline for the actress is her upcoming production, Soorma 2.
