London, United Kingdom: The UK government announced on 19 January, 2022, that restrictions reimposed in England last month to fight the surge in Omicron coronavirus cases would be lifted, citing data that showed infections had peaked.

Guidance advising people to work from home was lifted immediately, while from the middle of next week they will no longer have to wear masks in any setting or use a so-called COVID-19 pass to enter venues such as nightclubs.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who is fighting for his political future amid a scandal over his staff partying during past lockdowns, told MPs the country’s “extraordinary booster campaign” had made the change possible.

He noted more than 36 million booster jabs had been delivered, with over 90 percent of over-60s now given a third dose, while record case rates had dropped for several weeks.

“Our scientists believe it is likely that the Omicron wave has now peaked nationally,” he added, while cautioning “the pandemic is not over”.

“I encourage everyone across the country to continue with all the cautious behaviours that we know help to keep each everybody safe,” Johnson said.

Some have claimed relaxing the rules is driven by the embattled leader wanting to please critics angry at the revelations that he and his staff broke COVID-19 lockdown rules by holding numerous parties at Downing Street.

Boris Johnson, who only has responsibility for health policy in England, reinstated the curbs last month to cope with what he called a “tidal wave” of expected infections from Omicron.

But facing restive Tory backbenchers, the prime minister rebuffed calls by some scientists to impose stricter measures, and allowed socialising and sporting events to continue unimpeded.

The devolved governments of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland imposed stricter curbs, banning large crowds at sports fixtures.

Within weeks, Britain’s daily caseload for COVID-19 topped a record 200,000 infections in early January.

That placed significant pressure on the state-run National Health Service nationwide and spiked the country’s COVID-19 death toll, which is now nearing 153,000.

https://www.cinebuster.in/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/WhatsApp-Video-2022-01-20-at-22.25.16.mp4

”Live with COVID-19″

However, with increasing evidence Omicron results in less severe illness and around 15 million boosters administered since the additional rules were implemented, hospitalisations and deaths have remained well below previous peaks.

Meanwhile, infections have dropped steadily in 2022, with around 108,000 new cases announced on 19 January, 2022.

Data from the Office of National Statistics – seen as more accurate as it randomly samples the population – showed weekly cases had dropped by around a fifth.

“The steps that we’ve announced today represent a major milestone,” Health Secretary Sajid Javid said at a Downing Street news conference later on 19 January, 2022.

“But it’s not the end of the road and we shouldn’t see this as the finish line,” he added.

Arguing “we must learn to live with COVID-19” in a similar way to seasonal flu, Javid said the government would be setting out a long-term plan for living with coronavirus within months.

That could eventually include ending mandatory self-isolation for those who have tested positive for COVID-19-19, he noted.

“It’s reasonable to think just as we’re living with flu, for example, we don’t require people to legally self-isolate but to remain cautious,” Javid added.

Devolved leaders in Edinburgh and Wales have also said they will ease the stronger rules reimposed there, with sporting event limits lifted in time for the Six Nations rugby tournament starting next month.

Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced on 18 January, 2022, she would ease other restrictions, allowing nightclubs to reopen and no longer requiring table service in bars.

Guidance asking people to stick to a three-household limit on indoor gatherings will also be lifted, she outlined.

The Welsh government has said a decline in COVID-19 cases in intensive care means it will scale down its alert level from two to zero in coming weeks.

London: Boris Johnson today warned to tighten the lockdown rules yet again – as he revealed today that 2.4million Covid jabs have been given out so far.

The PM gave a stark warning that further action may be needed – just a week after England’s new national lockdown began.

Hundreds of thousands more people have got the Covid vaccine, the PM has said todayCredit: Eddie_Mulholland@hotmail.com

The PM said as he visited a vaccination centre in the South West today: “We are going to keep the rules under constant review. Where we have to tighten them, we will.

“But we have rules in place which, if properly followed, we believe can make a huge, huge difference.”

He urged everyone to stay at home as much as possible to protect the NHS and save lives – and he urged everyone to consider their actions as it was such a “perilous time” for the nation.

Although he stopped short of telling Brits they shouldn’t enjoy a take-away coffee in a park, he added: “It’s now that people need to focus – whether they are out shopping, whether they are buying coffee in the park or wherever it happens to be, they need to think about spreading the disease.

“Because as Chris said, one contact that you have can be a chain of transmission for this disease.

“Now is the moment of maximum vigilance, maximum observation and observance of the rules, and of course if we think things are not being properly observed then we may have to do more.”

The news comes after two women were fined £200 by Derbyshire police for having a walk with a cup of tea last weekend – accusing them of having a picnic.

After repeatedly refusing to clarify the issue, Downing Street finally admitted this lunchtime it was within the rules.

The PM’s spokesperson said: “Takeaways are permitted, cafes and restaurants are permitted to allow takeaways. People are permitted to exercise once a day… It shouldn’t be used for socialising.”

Brits have been told only to leave their home to exercise, get food or a small list of other reasons as part of the national lockdown to save lives and cut the number of Covid cases down.

But parks have been rammed over the weekend as Brits flock to beauty spots to take their exercise.

There is no rule or law which states how far people are allowed to travel, but the advice is to stay local if people can.

It Came As:

● Boris Johnson also said today that 2 million have had at least one jab, and 400,000 got their top-up second vaccine.

● The Health secretary will give a press conference tonight on how the vaccine will be rolled out.

● Wales said people should wear masks in all public places – including outside.

Around one million people have got the jab in the last week alone – and hundreds of thousands more are set to get it every day.

Matt Hancock said on Sunday the figure stood at around 2million.

It comes as seven super vaccination centres opened across Britain today – to fulfil the PM’s aim of doing 200,000 a day by Friday.

50 will open by the end of the week.

Boris has promised that 13million vulnerable Brits will be offered their first jabs by the middle of February.

More mass-scale vaccination centres will open in the coming days and weeks.

The PM visited one in Bristol to see how the rollout was working.

600,000 Brits who live less than a 45 minute drive away will be written to, asking them to book a slot.

The locations are:

● Robertson House in Stevenage
● ExCel Centre in London
● Centre for Life in Newcastle
● Etihad Tennis Centre in Manchester
● Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey
● Ashton Gate Stadium in Bristol
● Millennium Point in Birmingham

The PM has promised to inoculate 13.5 million people in just five weeks, and ministers are gearing up for a marathon task.

A fuller plan will be published at tonight’s press conference, which will be led by Matt Hancock.

He will also give an update on how and when everyone can expect to get vaccinated.

The PM visiting a vaccine centre in Bristol todayCredit: Eddie_Mulholland@hotmail.com

The post VAX THE NATION: Boris Johnson Warns To Tighten Lockdown Again As He Reveals 2.4million Covid Jabs Given Out first appeared on Latest News, Breaking News, National News, World News, India News, Bollywood News, Business News, Politics News, Sports News, Entertainment News - CineBuster.

The violent riots erupted after Trump told supporters to prevent President Elect Joe Biden’s election win being certified: “We’re going to walk down to the Capitol.

“And we’re gonna cheer on our brave senators and congressmen and women. And we’re probably not going to be cheering, so much for some of them, because you’ll never take back our country with weakness, you have to show strength and you have to be strong.”

Speaking at Downing Street today, Mr Johnson stormed: “All my life, America has stood for very important things – the idea of freedom, of democracy.

“And as you say, Donald Trump encouraged people to storm the Capitol.”

The PM furiously tore into the outgoing President for questioning Mr Biden’s election win – accusing him of undermining democracy.

“And in so far as the President consistently has cast doubt on the outcome of a free and fair election, (he) was completely wrong.

“I am unreservedly condemn encouraging people to behave in the disgraceful way that they did in the capitol.”

Mr Johnson added that he was “very pleased” Mr Biden had now been formally declared President-elect.

His comments follow Trump now agreeing to a “orderly transition” of power after Mr Biden.

Earlier today, the Home Secretary lashed out at the outgoing US President for failing to attempt to quell the scenes of chaos which led to deaths of at least four people.

Speaking to BBC Breakfast, Ms Patel denounced the US President for egging on protesters who forced their way into the Capitol, smashing glass and running freely through building.

She blasted: “His comments directly led to the violence and so far he has failed to condemn that violence, and that is completely wrong.

“Let’s be very clear in terms of the scenes in Washington, and the display of violence, (Trump) has made a number of comments that helped to fuel that violence.”

She added: “I just think there is no scope for violence whatsoever, and it’s just appalling in terms of what we’ve seen.

“America needs to move on, and have the transition (to the next President) that is absolutely essential – and the type of transition that America is famous for.”

As the protesters charged into the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi’s office, lawmakers were evacuated and staffers ordered to take emergency bags with food, water and gas marks as they fled the building.

Mr Trump posted on Twitter, urging protesters to stay “peaceful” but stopped short of telling them to leave.

He said: “I am asking for everyone at the U.S. Capitol to remain peaceful. No violence!”

Trump eventually released a video telling those that besieged the building to “go home” – as he still made unfounded claims of fraud and told demonstrators they were “special”.

Meanwhile, the vice-President Mike Pence told anyone involved in the protests to head home.

Ms Patel slammed Trump for failing to try to stop the violent scenes.

She said: “He didn’t do anything to de-escalate that whatsoever.

“His language was not de-escalating the violence, what we’ve seen is completely unacceptable.”

Boris Johnson also branded the scenes “disgraceful” but fell short of blaming Mr Trump.

And Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab urged people to accept the results of the election.

Mr Raab said: “The US rightly takes great pride in its democracy, and there can be no justification for these violent attempts to frustrate the lawful and proper transition of power.”

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer slammed the protesters for “attacking democracy”.

Sir Keir said: “Horrendous scenes from the US. These are not ‘protesters’ – this a direct attack on democracy and legislators carrying out the will of the American people.”

Winston Churchill’s grandson and former Tory MP Nicholas Soames called Trump’s behaviour “unspeakably vile”.

In series of furious tweets, Mr Soames blasted: “Never in a lifetime could one imagine such appalling scenes in the Capitol.

“A testament to the unspeakably vile behaviour of Pres Trump now confirmed to be a very very bad man.”

And ex-PM Theresa May congratulated Congress on certifying Mr Biden as the next president, slamming the tactics used by rioters.

She said: “After yesterday’s disturbing scenes at the Capitol, I welcome that Congress has certified @JoeBiden as the next President.

“The orderly transition of power is a hallmark of a mature democracy. There is no place for the rule of the mob.”

Labour Shadow Home Secretary Nick Thomas-Symonds also denounced the violence.

He said: “The storming of the US Capitol is truly disgraceful. This terrible attack on democracy, to obstruct the will of the American people, is the product of a politics of hate and division.

“We will always stand with the American people and their democratically-elected legislators.”

Former British ambassador to the UK Kim Darroch piled into the onslaught of criticism of Trump, branding him “not fit to be president”.

The chaos led to one woman being shot by police during the confrontation – she later died in hospital.

The victim’s husband has since identified her as Ashli Babbit, of San Diego, KUSI-TV reports.

Another pro-Trump rioter was also injured after falling from a balcony at the Capitol. The protester has been hospitalised in serious condition, according to reports.

In another incident, an adult male was stabbed outside of the Trump Hotel. The victim has been transported to the hospital conscious and breathing. No arrests have been made, a DC Police spokesperson told NBC.

Police also announced that 14 of their officers were injured.

The post ”UNACCEPTABLE” Boris Johnson Slams Trump As ‘Completely Wrong’ For Inciting Supporters To Storm Capitol In Washington first appeared on Latest News, Breaking News, National News, World News, India News, Bollywood News, Business News, Politics News, Sports News, Entertainment News - CineBuster.

London: THE third national coronavirus lockdown has been voted through Parliament – but MPs have demanded that the new laws are lifted after the UK’s most vulnerable are vaccinated.

Politicians tonight voted retrospectively on the return to a March-style shutdown, which sees non-essential shops shuttered, international arrivals tested 72 hours before passing through British airports and schools closed.

MPs have tonight backed a third lockdown in England
Credit: Mercury Press

And despite concerns the country could shut down for months to come, MPs overwhelmingly voted in favour of the lockdown, with 524 to 16.

Boris Johnson initially told Brits the lockdown would end in mid-February, but has since warned it could last up until the end of March.

MPs were recalled to the House of Commons today for the crucial vote on the new lockdown laws, which were announced on Monday night.

The PM stressed that the restrictions would fade out gradually over time as soon as possible – but has now admitted that they may legally remain in place until March 31, according to the laws which came in last night.

Today, more than 1,000 Covid deaths were recorded for the first time since April as a mutant strain of the disease rages out of control.

One in 50 people living in England has coronavirus – although in London, it’s thought one in 30 has the deadly bug.

And Mr Johnson has said that only after the roll-out is underway and the most vulnerable have been protected will he consider lifting measures.

He said there would be a “gradual unwrapping” and the nation would gradually go down the Tiers system again afterwards.

He said: “Carefully, brick-by-brick, as it were, breaking free of our confinement but without risking the hard-won gains that protections have given us.”

It will be the law to review the measures every two weeks – and there will be a legal obligation to remove them if they are no longer necessary.

“We will use every second of lockdown to place this invisible shield around the elderly and the vulnerable” said Boris Johnson

MPs have been quick to express their deep frustration with the fact it could go on for much longer than the PM said just two days ago – and demanded he commit to reducing them as soon as possible.

They insisted that as soon as all the most vulnerable people have the jab, the rules should begin to be lifted no matter what.

And Mark Harper of the Covid Recovery Group said: “Once we have vaccinated those four groups, they have got immunity, and we have taken off the risk of death of 80 per cent of people…

“What possible reason is there then, at that point, not rapidly relaxing the restrictions on the rest of the country?”

He was one of several demanding a strict time-limit on the lockdown laws, but insisted he would not vote against tonight’s laws.

Yet Matt Hancock stressed the effects of the mass vaccination may not show in the figures for weeks to come – and the nation must wait for that point in order to return to normal.

Mr Hancock added: “We have to see that impact of the vaccines on the number of deaths – we need to see the protection in lived reality on the ground – we will watch this like a hawk.”

Conservative MP Stephen McPartland ahead of sitting in the Commons that he will not vote for the lockdown, telling talkRADIO: “We know the lockdown is effectively going to be until the end of March… and sadly they may well continue that”.

And Charles Walker also said he would be voting against the measures.

It Came As:

● Teachers could be bumped up the priority list for the vaccine to help kids get back to school in the coming months, MPs suggested.
● 1,041 people were reported to have died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Wednesday – the highest daily reported total since April 21 – and 62,000 cases.
● Ministers this morning insisted pharmacies would be used for the jab rollout – just hours after they complained of being snubbed.
● And Matt Hancock and Public Health England faced a backlash as the jab won’t be delivered to hospitals and GPs on Sundays.
● The Met Police issued new guidance for officers to be stricter in enforcing lockdown rules.
● Volunteer vaccinators will no longer need to have anti-terrorism training, it was confirmed.
● Another 3,000 more people are in hospital with Covid than when Boris Johnson made his lockdown announcement on Monday evening – bringing the total to 30,000.
● Clap for Carers is to return tomorrow night with Brits urged to applaud all Covid heroes.

Sir Graham Brady, the Tory backbench boss, demanded another vote in February on extending the laws.

Conservative former minister Dame Cheryl Gillan said: “These regulations stop golf and outside activities, this is patently ridiculous and we need some common sense, for goodness sake, as this sort of nonsense damages our credibility.”

New Forest West MP Desmond Swayne accused the PM of “malice” with rules which dictate people’s everyday lives, saying the new lockdown was an “assault on liberty and livelihoods”.

Chris Grayling warned: “Many of us support the PM in what he is doing but are very concerned that this House will not have an opportunity to take a further view on these regulations until the end of March.”

He demanded another debate before February half term and the progress made so far, stressing Britain should not wait until the end of March if possible.

And Tory MP Jeremy Wright demanded a number for how many needed to be vaccinated before restrictions will be lifted – which Boris failed to answer.

He urged: “When a specific point has been reached in the vaccine priority groups and a consequent reduction in the risk of hospitalisations and deaths, that then the balance of risk between health on the one hand and livelihood and learning on the other will be significantly different and then restrictions can be lifted.”

However, despite the open ended shutdown, the Covid Recovery Group (CRG), which was formed to resist lockdown measures, is set to back the Government too.

One member told the news agency: “There’s no choice this time.”

Boris said schools were his priority to get back up and running again when possible, adding: “Schools have been the very last thing to close and when we begin to move out of lockdown, I promise they will be the very first things to reopen.”

Ministers hope to get kids back to school after the February half-term break, but have refused to be drawn on any promises.

JAB THE NATION

The PM promised already that his vaccines strategy will deliver a way out of the lockdown, with a target of 13million of the most vulnerable Brits jabbed by the middle of February.

There are already almost 1,000 vaccines centres now up and running across the country – with 595 GP-led sites with 180 coming later this week. Hospitals are also dishing out the jab, and next week it will begin at sports stadiums and exhibition centres.

Covid vaccine deployment minister Nadhim Zahawi said this morning that the vaccine programme was a ‘Herculean’ effort.

He said the target to get almost 14 million people vaccinated by next month is a “stretching target” but he was confident it would be delivered.

And there will be a “massive acceleration” in numbers vaccinated in the coming days, he promised.

Meanwhile, Dr Susan Hopkins, deputy director of the national infections service at Public Health England (PHE), said coronavirus cases were still rising.

“This position is the most serious we’ve been in so far this pandemic,” she told BBC Breakfast.

Daily numbers for those who have had the jab will be revealed next week, Boris Johnson vowed last night.

Schools are to be shut until at least half term, and perhaps even longer, while A-Levels and GCSEs are cancelled.

But the kids of key workers and vulnerable children can still go in.

London: England will enter its toughest nationwide lockdown since March, with schools closed until mid-February, as Boris Johnson warned that the weeks ahead “will be the hardest yet”.

As new figures put the UK on course to exceed 100,000 Covid-related deaths before the end of the month without urgent action, the prime minister said once again that people must stay at home, with exercise limited to once a day. All non-essential shops were told to close from Monday night.

The lockdown will last for at least seven weeks, with measures to be reviewed during half-term week. Any relaxation would not come into effect before 22 February.

Just a day after urging millions of pupils to return to the classroom, Johnson announced all schools would switch to remote learning until the February half-term, and GCSE and A-level exams were unlikely to go ahead as planned.

The prime minister said parents would “reasonably ask why we did not make this decision sooner”, adding: “I completely understand the inconvenience and distress this late change will cause millions of parents and pupils up and down the country.”

In an 8pm address to the nation, the prime minister said he hoped that 12.2 million of the most vulnerable in society – care home residents and staff, frontline health and social care workers, all over-70s and the clinically extremely vulnerable – would get their first vaccinations by mid-February. The vaccines minister, Nadhim Zahawi, later said these four groups added up to 13.9 million people in England.

The UK was entering “the last phase of the struggle”, Johnson said, adding: “With every jab that goes into our arms, we are tilting the odds against Covid and in favour of the British people.”

The crackdown comes amid catastrophic figures for hospital admissions in England and warnings of a grim death toll by the end of the month. Johnson said:

On 4 January, there were 26,626 Covid patients in hospital in England, up 30% on a week earlier. The peak of admissions in the first wave was 18,374 on 12 April; the country is now 40% above that level. Across the UK, there were 80,664 positive tests on 29 December, with the case rate three times higher than at the start of December.

According to the analysis, there have been 91,453 deaths in the UK with Covid-19 on the death certificate or within 28 days of a positive test. Given the current trajectory, the UK could reach the grim milestone of 100,000 deaths before the end of the month, experts warned.

On Monday, the UK’s chief medical officers recommended that the Covid alert move to its highest level, from 4 to 5, meaning there is a “material risk of healthcare services being overwhelmed” and necessitating extremely strict social distancing.

“We are not confident that the NHS can handle a further sustained rise in cases and without further action there is a material risk of the NHS in several areas being overwhelmed over the next 21 days,” the chief medical officers of the four nations said, while urging those who still need emergency care for other illnesses to seek treatment.

Other UK leaders also announced new restrictions. All schools in Wales will be closed until at least 18 January, while mainland Scotland will be placed in full lockdown from midnight on Monday for the duration of January. The first minister, Nicola Sturgeon, said it was “no exaggeration to say that I am more concerned about the situation we face now than I have been at any time since March last year”.

Northern Ireland also looks set for new curbs, with Arlene Foster, the first minister of Northern Ireland, saying the region faces a “very dire situation”.

In his address to the nation, Johnson laid the blame for a third national lockdown squarely on a new, faster-spreading variant of the virus – despite widespread ongoing criticism of the government’s slowness to act.

“There is no doubt that in fighting the old variant of the virus, our collective efforts were working and would have continued to work,” Johnson said. “But we now have a new variant of the virus. It has been both frustrating and alarming to see the speed with which the new variant is spreading.”

Even in the past 36 hours, the prime minister had insisted schools were safe to open in most areas of the country. “There is no doubt in my mind that schools are safe,” he told the BBC’s Andrew Marr on Sunday.

However, the prime minister was unable to identify what he believed had changed since the preceding days, when most schools had been told to remain open – only saying in his address that schools were likely to act “as vectors for transmission, causing the virus to spread between households”.

Under the new lockdown, people in England will be ordered to stay at home from Tuesday and advised to leave only once a day for exercise. MPs are expected to vote the tough new measures into law from Wednesday, although businesses were advised to close from Monday night.

Across the country, people must now leave home only for work – and only if it is impossible to work from home – and for essential food and medicine. Exercise with one other person from a different household is permitted but the advice is to stay local and limit activity to once a day.

Other reasons to leave home will be limited to seeking medical care, fleeing the threat of harm and providing essential care.

All primary schools, secondary schools and colleges will be closed apart from for the children of key workers and vulnerable children. “We recognise that this will mean it is not possible or fair for all exams to go ahead this summer as normal,” Johnson said. “The education secretary will work with Ofqual [the regulator] to put in place alternative arrangements.”

Nurseries, alternative provision and special schools will remain open and existing rules for childcare support bubbles will continue, but students will not be able to return to university and will be expected to study online from their current residence until mid-February. In-person teaching can take place for a limited number of critical courses, such as medicine.

All non-essential retail and hospitality must close or remain closed. Restaurants and other premises can continue to offer deliveries or takeaways, but alcohol will no longer be permitted for takeaway or click and collect amid concerns about people congregating around pubs and bars.

Places of worship can remain open and offer communal worship – subject to social distancing – as can playgrounds, but outdoor sports venues, tennis courts and golf courses must close. Outdoor team sports will not be permitted, but professional sports, including the Premier League, may continue.

Those who are clinically extremely vulnerable will be advised to shield themselves as much as possible and should not go to work even if they cannot work from home, the government will advise.

The lockdown is set to come into effect in law as soon as possible, with regulations to be laid out on Tuesday and voted through parliament on Wednesday – although MPs have been warned not to attend parliament and told to participate remotely.

However, Johnson said the new rules should be followed from this evening, and businesses and the public should not wait for regulations to be passed.
