Dive into some of Bollywood and OTT’s most riveting tales of cons, robberies, and high-stakes criminal escapades as we gear up for Prime Video’s upcoming crime series.

A good heist story is never just about the crime. It is about the audacity of the plan, the minds behind it, the unexpected turns along the way, and the moment when everything threatens to unravel. From elaborate cons and daring robberies to schemes that spiral beyond anyone’s control, Bollywood and streaming have delivered plenty of stories that keep us guessing until the very end. Joining this space is Prime Video’s upcoming crime drama Chaar Yaar, which follows four middle-class friends whose one fateful decision pulls them into a dangerous world of gangsters and the police.

Here’s a look at some films and series that have kept us hooked with their high-stakes schemes and criminal escapades:

Dhoom

Fast bikes, daring robberies, and a cop determined to catch a thief who always seems to be one step ahead, Dhoom brought a high-octane spin to the crime genre. The film follows Kabir, played by John Abraham, and his gang as they carry out a series of robberies, with Abhishek Bachchan’s Jai Dixit and Uday Chopra’s Ali on their trail. Across the franchise, Dhoom has continued to deliver memorable heists, larger-than-life thieves and high-speed pursuits that have become synonymous with the series.

#Don

An underworld kingpin, and Vijay, his lookalike recruited by the authorities to infiltrate the criminal network. Don follows the dangerous game of doubles as Vijay struggles to maintain his cover, with shifting identities and uncertain loyalties keeping the stakes high. Featuring Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Arjun Rampal, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Boman Irani, the film keeps audiences guessing about who is really calling the shots.

#Farzi

What begins as a way to save his grandfather’s struggling printing press soon draws Sunny into a much bigger criminal operation. Played by Shahid Kapoor, the gifted artist in Farzi discovers that his ability to create convincing counterfeit currency could open the door to a very different life. But as the stakes rise, he finds himself in a dangerous cat-and-mouse game with Michael, an unconventional task force officer played by Vijay Sethupathi. Created by Raj and DK, the Prime Video series explores the world of counterfeit money, where one successful move can quickly lead to consequences no one saw coming.

#BuntyAurBabli

Not all cons start with guns and gangsters. In Bunty Aur Babli, Rakesh and Vimmi are two small-town dreamers who reinvent themselves as India’s most charming con-duo. From selling the Taj Mahal to duping the rich, their clever scams make them folk heroes until a relentless cop closes in. Starring Abhishek Bachchan, Rani Mukerji and Amitabh Bachchan, the film is a classic story of ambition, jugaad and how far a big dream can take you when you have nothing to lose.

#Special26

In Special 26, the con hinges on one simple trick: making a fake raid look real. Inspired by real-life incidents, the film follows a group of con artists posing as CBI and income tax officers to target wealthy businessmen and politicians. Led by Akshay Kumar as Ajay Singh, alongside Anupam Kher, Manoj Bajpayee and Jimmy Sheirgill, the film keeps audiences hooked as the gang’s elaborate operation faces the threat of being exposed by a determined investigation.

#Crew

Not every criminal enterprise begins with a master plan. In Crew, three flight attendants find themselves drawn into a gold-smuggling racket after their airline runs into financial trouble. Kareena Kapoor Khan, Tabu and Kriti Sanon play Geeta, Jasmine and Divya, three women trying to find a way out of their circumstances while navigating an increasingly complicated situation.

#ChaarYaar

Adding to the mix of heists, cons and high-stakes crime stories is Prime Video’s upcoming Hindi Original series Chaar Yaar, where one wrong turn sets four friends on a path they never planned to take. Set against the backdrop of early-2000s Mumbai, the series follows Jay, Tony, Saahil and Sameer, four middle-class friends whose one fateful decision pulls them into the world of crime, putting them in the crosshairs of gangsters and the police. Led by Prayrak Mehta, Saqib Ayub, Purav Jha and Naman Jain, the eight-episode crime drama brings a darker edge to the familiar story of friends figuring things out together. Only this time, the stakes extend far beyond money or ambition, with survival, loyalty, and the consequences of a single decision hanging in the balance. The series also features Sai Tamhankar, Sikandar Kher, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Rajesh Tailang, Chunky Panday, and Bhagavathi Perumal in pivotal roles.

From elaborate robberies and carefully executed cons to schemes that take an unexpected turn, these stories show that the world of crime rarely goes according to plan. With Chaar Yaar, a new group of friends is about to discover just how far one decision can take them and what it might cost to find their way back. Chaar Yaar premieres October 23, 2026, exclusively on Prime Video.

The success of yesteryears’ movies are being used to dish out a sequel. About 15 years ago #AbhishekBachchan and #RaniMukerji starrer #BuntyAurBabli was released and was hugely successful. The same film’s sequel is #BuntyAurBabli2 has addition of two new stars minus Abhishek Bachchan. In this movie #SaifAlikhan has replaced Jr Bachchan as Bunty and joins Rani’s Babli to offer different flavour to Bunty Aur Babli’s narrative. The film has updated version of Bunty and Babli as the new pair is highly educated and enter con business for social reasons. The writer director (Varun V Sharma) has tried to give reasoning for these new con-artists but it doesn’t come out convincingly. The corruption and failure of the society can not drive any one on ‘this’ road otherwise majority of the youngsters would be indulging in it. But the best part of ‘BaB2’ is that the earlier film’s characters are taken forwards unlike other films which only uses the ‘Title’ for encashing it’s popularity.

The films’ story revolves around new Bunty and Babli. Kunal Singh (Siddhant Chaturvedi) and Sonia Rawat (Sharvari Wagh) have passed out engineering and are jobless. They faithfully dabble in many ventures and are keen on 9 to 5 corporate job. But the state of affairs of the country and lack of opportunities lead them to try out a con-game. They are successful in their first con and like a bad habit and the smell easy money get them attracted to it even more. They use Bunty Aur Babli sigil as they are admirers of the original con-artists Bunty and Babli. Here original Bunty and Babli aka Rakesh and Vimmi Trivedi (Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerji), who are in their forties and leading a normal life by now, gets arrested thinking that they have reactivated their con-business. Actually both Babli and Bunty are furious too at the new Jodi for robbing their identity. The police chief Jatayu Singh (Pankaj Tripathi) forces them to help him find out new Bunty and Babli. And this takes audiences on a cat and mouse chase trip with intermittent doses of entertainment.

Actually in the last two decades a lot has changed, socially, technologically, politically and otherwise in our country. So the concept of the new BaB seems a bit outdated but it could have been showcased in an interesting manner by working on script. The screenplay seems to loose elasticity at times which hampers the connect with the audience.Still bringing two pairs of Bunty and Babli is gratifying though most of the times predictable. The scone half is pacy but the first half of the film needed a bit of scissoring. The production value of the film is very high and the visuals are appealing. The director shows signs of potential in a few scenes but much more was expected with the franchise like Bunty Aur Babli. Another disappointing factor is music. First BaB had splendid music and it’s title tune is used in this film too which if effective. None of the songs are worth remembering except the end-credit one, ‘Tattoo Waliye…’.

The films scores heavily in acting department. Saif Ali khan doesn’t disappoint as a new Bunty and his comic one liners are funny. Rani Mukerji has aced the middle aged Babli and the loud demeanour of Vimmi is perfectly portrayed. Siddhant Chaturvedi, after his MC Sher character in Gully Boy, has raised his game in this film and he dishes out a good and convincing performance. Sharvari is mesmerising in glamour portions and has shown her actings chops too in different garbs, disguises. She definitely has a good future in Bollywood as she has all the qualities a Bollywood heroine should possess.

All in all, both the ‘Jodis’ of ‘Bunty Aur Babli 2’ entertain chasing each other, having Jatayu Singh for a company.

Vijay Ganguly is a name who needs no introduction; he is an ace choreographer. Vijay has recently directed and choreographed a song titled Shola produced by Anil Ganguly Production. Vijay says, “Shola is a fun, peppy song featuring Akasa and Rohit Saraf. The song is composed by Akasa and Charan. Akasa is one of the most talented singers we have today.” When Sony music approached me with the song and I heard it, I instantly thought of something fun, exciting and crazy. So we integrated a fun story with the song and dance. The story takes place in a mela in a small town. We’ve tried too keep the simplicity of the small town but have also added colours and a lot of vibrancy.”

Talking about his experience shooting under the Covid protocols, Vijay says,”We shot this the video in mumbai. Since it was a mela set up, we needed a lot of people to fill the space but because of all the Covid restrictions and precautions, we had to cut down on the number of people. It’s not easy to shoot during the pandemic, but still so many technicians get together to make sure that we create content for the audience to be entertained. We took all necessary precautions to film this song. It was a full-filling experience.”

Speaking about heartthrob Rohit Saraf, Vijay says,” Rohit is phenomenal. I didn’t know that he was a trained dancer untill we came into rehearsal because the last song I had done with him for the webseries Mismatched did not have any dancing. But I was pleasantly surprised to see how well he dances and I knew people are going to enjoy his dancing in the video.” Vijay has had a long journey with choreographing, and he adds,”After being in the profession of dance for 14 years, I discovered that I was happiest on a film set when I assisted in choreography for films like Bunty aur Babli, Taare Zameen par, Mission impossible (ghost protocol), etc. Since I always wanted to learn more, I started assisting Mr Anurag Basu as an Assistant Director for the film Jagga Jasoos. Since the film was a musical, Mr Basu trusted me with the the song Galti se mistake, so my journey as a independent choreographer started form there. Galti Se Mistake from Jagga Jasoos got me the Filmfare, Iifa, Zee Cine and more awards. Before Galti se mistake, I did a song called Nachange saari Raat with Yami Gautam and Pulkit samrat.

How did you get the production house with your father’s name? “My father was a director/producer, he’s made films like Kora Kagaz and Saheb and also won two national awards. He was someone who has been respected a lot by the fraternity. His production house was called RV films, that was on the names of Rupali Ganguly (my sister) and me Vijay. So when my father was unwell in 2016, the thought came that there must be a production company in his name. We also discussed this with him and after he passed away, we came up with this. Anil Ganguly Production was born to keep his legacy alive.”

On his father’s contribution in his life Vijay says,”Everything I know today is because of my father, not only knowledge about films, but also life. He is a legend. My biggest learning from him is hard work and honesty.”

So what are the plans with your production house now? “As a production house, my constant approach is to create more and evolve every-time, be it music videos, commercials or feature films. Bring opportunities for newer talents. And make content that keeps my fathers name proud and alive.”

The post Vijay Ganguly says, ‘Shola is a fun, peppy song featuring Akasa and Rohit Saraf’! first appeared on Latest News, Breaking News, National News, World News, India News, Bollywood News, Business News, Politics News, Sports News, Entertainment News - CineBuster.

On the 13th anniversary of a cult ‘Chak De India’ film, writer of the movie Jaideep Sahni, speaks about the impact the film has had in cinema and society. Jaideep Sahni’s 15-year creative collaboration with Yash Raj Films’ has seen him write some brilliant hits like Bunty Aur Babli, Rocket Singh : Salesman of the Year, Shuddh Desi Romance, Aaja Nachle and the cult classic Chak De! India starring Shah Rukh Khan. On the 13th anniversary of this generation defining film, Jaideep says director Shimit Amin and him had all the creative freedom from Aditya Chopra to make this film which is now regarded as one of the best films that the industry has ever made.

“I had wanted to tell this story for a few years. So, when Adi asked me after Bunty Aur Babli what I wanted to do next, I told him that I wanted to do this film which could somehow form a bridge between the world of women athletes and the rest of the country. As I told him more about what I’d seen and felt, he agreed that it was a shame that not enough people knew about this world, and also that it could make a really great film if we got things right,” says Jaideep.

Jaideep has made a mark in Bollywood in his own right, much like director Shimit Amin who too wowed everyone with his brilliance as a visionary director. The duo was encouraged to push the content envelope by Aditya, who wanted their distinct voice and vision to shine through.

“Shimit and I have been friends since the time I was writing Company and he was editing Bhoot at Ram Gopal Varma’s office but it was Adi’s conviction after seeing Ab Tak Chhappan that he must be the director for this film. Adi’s and Shimit’s faith in the film as producer and director at that early stage was very reassuring for me since I knew my writing was going into the hands of people I trusted and respected,” says Jaideep, who like Shimit, is a complete outsider and both were handpicked and groomed by Adi because of their sheer brilliance.

Jaideep, thus, feels he has always been given a free hand at YRF which is why he has written such diverse films. He says, “5 of my scripts, all very different from each other, have been produced by YRF. These have been directed by 4 different directors. There’s something different about a studio built and run by filmmakers, which cannot be described superficially but working filmmakers understand and appreciate.”

Media has often speculated if Chak De! India was way ahead of its time from a creative vision because they feel had the film released now, it would shatter every box office record. Jaideep is happy that Chak De! India became a milestone moment in Indian cinema.

“Sometimes people call Chak De! ahead of its times but I don’t know how to judge that. It’s just that as audience we get too busy in our daily lives and forget how happy something new can make us if we give it a chance, and as storytellers, we are always under pressure to be entertaining which can impose an artificial ceiling on our choice of subjects. But subjects are always bigger than the storytellers, and if we respect them, they gently show us the way,” he says.

Interestingly, Jaideep completes 20 years in the film industry. He debuted as a writer for Jungle in 2000 for Ram Gopal Varma. He collaborated with YRF in 2005 with Bunty Aur Babli and has since then worked closely with Adi.

He says, “Well, on my first film’s set someone mistook me for the DTP operator even after seeing me every day for two months because I used to work on a computer. To witness screenwriting come back from that forgotten corner to the forefront of everyone’s attention today is the greatest satisfaction of all for us writers.”

Jaideep adds, “To have imagined and written films of different genres, set in so many different environments, with different rhythms and dialects and slangs, has been a great joy. So many of these characters, dialogues or phrases of songs having become a part of peoples’ everyday conversation is something I didn’t aim for but have finally learned to enjoy gracefully without getting shocked.
