My children are my biggest strength says Deepshika Nagpal

Mumbai, 17th March 2021: Deepshika Nagpal has always been open about her children, supporting their decisions, dreams and passions. Recently, she shared how she enjoys being a mother onscreen in Dangal TV’s show Ranju Ki Betiyaan where she has two sons – Vicky (Jeevansh Chadha) and Lucky (Karan Khandelwal) and in real life her daughter Vedhika and son Vivaan. She also shares how her kids have been her biggest strength.

Sharing about this, Deepshika says, “Unlike the show, I am a single mother in real life and I am the mother and father to my children. In that aspect, I am much closer to Reena’s character Ranju. I feel that even if children are small, they are able to understand things if you explain them properly. Which is why I have always spoken to them like adults explained my problems, reasons why I can’t attend birthday parties, or spend more time with them. My kids have understood and supported me throughout and are my biggest strength.”

She also adds, “It’s true that when your children are in their teenage stage they need you more. Similarly in real life and the show, I have supported and have guided my children what I feel is good for them and will help them. We are like the best of friends. Like all mothers, I hope both my onscreen children and my own children become successful and always remain healthy.”

Sharing more about this Reena says, “I am working with Deepshika for the first time. I feel she has gotten completely into her character Lalita and is doing justice to it. The atmosphere on sets is very energetic, fun, everyone’s enjoying themselves and one of the reasons for this is Deepshika. I am a quiet and introvert person whereas Deepshika is completely my opposite. While I am in my own space enjoying a book, Deepshika is fun-loving, she kind of lightens up the atmosphere. I really like it.”

Sharing a quality where Reena admires Deepshika, she says, “On sets, when Deepshika’s shot gets over, she starts making videos, Instagram reels. Here, we are completely opposite as I keep my phone in my room and I don’t get a chance to use it throughout the day. I have tried to learn from her that I should also try to be active on social media. But I just can’t, it’s not in my nature (laughs). I am enjoying the different flavours on our set.”

Despite having different personalities, Reena and Deepshika enjoy working together.

Deepshika Nagpal celebrated Maha Shivratri with her telly-town friends

Mumbai, 12 March 2021: Maha Shivratri is a festival celebrated on a grand scale in Hindu families. Deepshika Nagpal, who is currently seen in Dangal TV’s Ranju Ki Betiyaan, celebrates the festival with a traditional pooja at her place every year along with some known faces of the industry.

Expressing how she celebrated this year, Deepshika says, “Maha Shivratri is a festival that I like to celebrate every year with my friends and family as I am a big Lord Shiv Bhakt. And this year it was even more special because I just moved to a new house so it was like a small house warming pooja too. Having these poojas at home on such an auspicious day is a tradition that my parents inculcated in me and now I want to make my children learn the same. My friends like Ayub Khan, Payal Malhotra, Kashmira Shah, Sushant Divgikar, Delnaaz Irani and Rohit Verma who have now turned into family, like always were part of my celebration. And I like to always celebrate with them, be it a party or a pooja.”

Talking about the festival and one fond memory of the same, Deepshika says, “When I was around 15 years old, we had a pooja and a celebration at home. And hailing from Agra, my father would always bring bhang like a ‘prasad’ from Lord Shiv. So, this time, he kept the bhang mixed thandai right next to the regular thandai and asked the kids not to touch it. But with my curiosity on a rise, I actually gulped 4-5 glasses of the bhang mixed drink and didn’t wake for 3 days (laughs). That has to be one of my fondest memories of the festival for sure.”

That indeed was a memory for a lifetime.

Mumbai, 08^th March 2021: In an industry equally run by men and women, gender disparity in terms of pay has always been a topic of conversation. While the television industry wasn’t targeted, the movie industry did receive a lot of backlash for this. Deepshika Nagpal, who is currently seen in Dangal TV’s Ranju Ki Betiyaan, has been in the entertainment industry for 25 years now and has experienced both the worlds. She says it is difficult to understand why the discrimination is prevalent even today.

On the occasion of International Women’s Day 2021, Deepshika took the opportunity and shared her valuable thoughts on the topic and said, “Men and women work equally hard. However, seeing a discrimination in pay is very sad. In television, the situation is still better as the industry is women dominated and the actors can get what they deserve. But this is not evident in films. The film industry is still a male-dominated one and unless it is a women-oriented movie then they get paid what they are entitled to but that is much less compared to what the male actors get. This is very strange and I don’t understand why this is still prevalent in today’s day and age. We are in the 21st century and we just keep talking about change be it on women’s day, Mother’s Day, girl’s child day but nothing is happening. Society needs to change and walk towards it together. The Indian mindset needs to change. I feel an actor’s or actress’s performances or popularity can only determine their worth, not their gender and society.”

Everyday is a lunch date for the cast of Ranju Ki Betiyaan

Mumbai, 9th March 2021: Like many of his colleagues, Actor Karan Khandelwal had initially joined the industry aspiring to get into films. However, fate had something else planned for him and he started working in television shows. At present, he is seen in Dangal TV’s Ranju Ki Betiyaan playing the role of Ayub Khan and Deepshika Nagpal’s son Lucky. Karan Khandelwal recently got casual and shared his thoughts about his bonding with his onscreen parents.

Sharing about a few incidents where Karan bonded with Deepshika Nagpal, he says, “A couple of days back, my mood was off so I told Jeevansh that I need some space and will eat food alone. I don’t know when or how Deepshika Ji saw me and figured out something was off. Later, she came to my vanity van, took my tiffin and told me that we are like a family and not just co-actors who will leave you alone when you are unhappy. I really loved this gesture of hers. We all came from separate places so usually, no one cares about your mood. But I feel after this incident we have become very close. Now it’s fixed that we – Deepshika, Ayub, Karan, Jeevansh have lunch every day together in Ayub Ji’s room.”

Sharing another incident where he felt huge admiration for Ayub Khan, he says, “One day, Jeevansh and I were continuously shooting and were very tired so did not go to have lunch in Ayub Ji’s room. Later Ayub Ji came and told us he had been waiting and was upset. It’s something really small but such a senior actor being upset about a thing that doesn’t seem important. From that day we decided no matter how tired we are, we will have lunch together. I am glad that Ayub Ji and Deepshika Ji are my onscreen parents. I am also thankful to Prashant Bhatt Sir for giving me a chance to audition for the part.”

It is good to see actors bonding and spending time together.

Sometimes after finishing their scenes, actors have quite a lot of time on their hands to relax, catch up. Recently, actor and dancer Karan Khandelwal who is presently seen in Dangal TV’s Ranju Ki Betiyaan alongside Ayub Khan and Deepshika Nagpal shares that he enjoys spending time with his onscreen parents and enjoys taking videos and making Instagram reels, especially with Deepshika Nagpal.

Sharing more about this, Karan says, “Sometimes after our takes are done, Ayub Ji asks if we want to make videos. He directs and films all the videos of us – Karan, Deepshika and Jevaansh – performing, dancing and then I edit and add the songs. I have taken many videos and reels with Deepshika Ji, while some were spontaneous, for some we share ideas and decide. Deepshika Ji suggests on which songs we can make a video. I particularly enjoy shooting the videos with Deepshika Ji as she is very sweet and warm. We have made so many videos that I feel we have inspired Monika, Roopal, Muskan and Tia to make videos too. So we are trendsetters here.”

The videos are filled with fun and laughter and one can see the special bond the actors share. It’s good to see that despite such a hectic schedule’s actors are having fun offsets and making the work environment a fun place to be in.

While some really struggle to do a small scene, for some destiny shows them the path to success in this field. Deepshika Nagpal, who has been in the industry for 25 years now and is currently seen in Dangal TV’s ‘Ranju Ki Betiyaan’ says her whole family was a part of the industry and she didn’t want to be here. But God had some different plans for her.

Talking about how she stepped her foot here, Deepshika says, “I am from the fourth generation of a film family. My maternal grandfather, Harjeevan Das, was from the time of silent movies. My maternal uncle was a cameraman. My mother was an actress and producer, my daddy was an actor and director, so I never wanted to act, because I felt like this is a profession where no one lives in the house. But it seems like God had different plans for me and I have no complaints.”

When asked if her next generation will also be a part of the entertainment industry, she said, “Of course, if my daughter Vidhika wants, she will definitely work in films. She is 20 and is doing a filmmaking course. She is signed by a modeling agency. If she comes then there will be a fifth generation. By the way, whatever my children want to do in their life, I will support them fully.”

Sharing her thoughts more on this, Roopal says, “Be it films or TV, I feel no medium is big or small, It’s true that each medium has its pros and reach. I love television as a medium as its reach is far much wider and we get a larger set audience to entertain. Television is segmented across regional languages and it caters to all strata. I have done 14 shows, including reality series since I started doing TV in 2007. I take life as it comes and I am totally contented in terms of my career and profession. I like to do one show at a time so I can give my all to it and focus on my health and fitness.”

We agree with Roopal, acting is a job that should be noted on any platform. An actor should be able to display their craft on any and every medium. Both films and reality shows constitute the entertainment industry.

She looks better and is performing good roles in both television and cinema. At present, she is seen in Dangal TV’s latest show ‘Ranju Ki Betiyaan’ where she plays the character Lalita, a romantic and glamorous woman. Being in the industry for two decades, Deepshika feels that she has seen almost everything from TV, daily soaps, and now web series.

Sharing more about this, Deepshika says, “I did TV when TV was looked down upon and was new. Then, you’d get into acting if you could not do well in your studies. That has changed. Now with everyone wanting to be an actor, it is a profession and industry with people actually trained in the craft. I think I have seen everything from TV, daily soaps, and now web series. When I work with young actors, I get to learn so much. I am a learner and that’s why I am surviving in the industry.”

Talking about the change in television, she says, “When I joined the industry, TV was not only about daily soaps. I have seen the time when serials meant weekly soaps. Beautiful subjects happened. However, TV is more mature now and it’s exploring different stories which would not have been possible earlier.”

Similarly, Karan Khandelwal had stepped foot in the industry as a dancer but has now made a remarkable mark as an actor. He is currently seen as Lucky who is Lalita (Deepshika Nagpal and Guddu Mishra’s (Ayub Khan) son in Dangal TV’s Ranju Ki Betiyaan.

Sharing how he went from a dancer to an actor and his Bollywood plans, Karan says, “I started my career as a dancer around nine-years years ago. Then, I got a TV show. Since then, there has been no looking back. My dad always wanted me to become an actor. Now that I am, he is extremely happy and proud of me. I understand that becoming a Bollywood hero is tough and it takes years for people to get a ticket to Bollywood. So instead of waiting, I decided to do TV shows that were being offered to me. Initially, I did TV as I wanted to pay my bills. But now, I love performing on TV and portraying different characters. I don’t like to repeat myself and look for something which I have not done in the past.”

We are glad in spite of the career change; Karan is loving what he is doing and we are enjoying seeing him on screen too.
