On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, popular singer Dhvani Bhanushali offers a glimpse into the close-knit relationship she shares with her sister, Dia Bhanushali. Built on a foundation of mutual comfort, shared memories, and playful chaos, their dynamic reflects a deeply rooted sisterhood that has remained steadfast over the years.

Talking about how their relationship has evolved over the years, Dhvani shares that despite growing up, the two continue to be “little girls at heart.” She says, “We are still little girls at heart; so, our relationship continues to be like that. It is absolutely mad how much fun we have together we do all sorts of silly, crazy things around the house. If you were to put a camera in our home when we are together, it would be a complete riot.”

Despite her busy schedule, Dhvani makes it a point to stay connected with her sister and finds comfort in spending quality time with her whenever she gets a break. Sharing how they make the most of their time together, she says, “Whenever I have a day off, I love spending time with her, and we watch films together. No matter what happens, I make sure I see her face every single day.”

However, like every sibling relationship, their bond also comes with its fair share of disagreements. Dhvani admits that their fights can get quite intense, often requiring their parents to step in. She says, “When we disagree, we have massive fights. Our parents typically have to step in to break it up. Afterwards, I am usually the one to apologise first.”

Interestingly, Dia has her own unique way of making peace after a disagreement. Dhvani reveals, “My sister is big on memes and GIFs, so on the rare occasions when she makes the first move, she uses those to break the ice.”

From being each other’s partners in crime to making up after massive fights with memes and GIFs, Dhvani and Dia’s relationship beautifully captures the many shades of sisterhood. This Raksha Bandhan, their bond stands as a reminder that growing up may change many things, but some sibling equations remain wonderfully unchanged.

“I was about 21 when #Vaaste happened, I didn’t quite understand the kind of attention I was getting because people around me didn’t think, except my dad, that it was such a big deal. It’s a big deal for a woman in India as a musician to do so well. If, the success is coming in, the treatment should change a little, it should get better. The opportunities should get better, and that I don’t think sort of happened for me.”

Keerti Kadam: Dhvani, how excited are you about your debut? What special preparations did you undergo for this film?

Dhvani Bhanushali: I’m absolutely thrilled! It’s my first film, and honestly, I couldn’t have asked for a better debut. But nothing happened overnight. It took a lot of hard work. I’ve trained in theatre for two years and even performed in Girish Karnad’s play Nagmandalam alongside NSD actors. Besides, I also did a family show, a lot of fieldwork, and several workshops with Prachit. Laxman Utekar sir, Sourav, and I spent a great deal of time with the script and character development. My co-star Aashim (Gulati) and I did a lot of readings together to get into the essence of our characters.The story of Meera resonated deeply with me. Although I didn’t personally experience what she goes through, I’ve seen it happen around me. Growing up in Ghatkopar, I often wondered why many girls got married at such a young age. When I read the script, I felt this story needed to be told—parents should simply ask their daughters what they want from life. Kahan Shuru Kahan Khatam conveys this important message.

Keerti Kadam: Were you always inclined towards acting, or did it happen unexpectedly?

Dhvani Bhanushali: Acting crossed my mind when I was 17, but the role felt too challenging at the time. Meanwhile, I started posting music covers on YouTube, and things took off from there. Collaborating with Vinay-Radhika gave me the break I needed. But once people started recognizing me, I thought, why not take it further? Acting requires a lot of hard work, and now, after learning the craft, I feel ready.

Keerti Kadam: Many feel you should have ventured into acting sooner. What do you think?

Dhvani Bhanushali: Everything happens at the right time. Jumping into things prematurely can lead to unnecessary backlash, and it’s something I didn’t want. You have to be sure before taking such a step. I’m not a star kid, and though my father has been in the industry for over 27 years, I had to pave my own way. His struggles inspire me, and the support he gives is invaluable. It’s important to carry that forward with my own hard work.

Keerti Kadam: What drew you to Kahan Shuru Kahan Khatam for your debut?

Dhvani Bhanushali: The message of the film! It resonated with me deeply. When I first read the script, it wasn’t with the intention of acting in it—I was just going through it as part of Bhanushali Studios Limited. But as I delved deeper, I felt it was an important story to tell, especially for the youth and parents.

Keerti Kadam: As an already established singer, do you see this as an advantage in your acting career?

Dhvani Bhanushali: (laughs) Honestly, I don’t know. I just follow my heart! Overthinking can be overwhelming, so I take things as they come, as long as it aligns with my values. I want to do both—singing and acting.

Keerti Kadam: How was your experience working with your co-star Aashim Gulati, who has done notable work on OTT platforms?

Dhvani Bhanushali: It was fantastic! Initially, I was nervous, but after doing readings and workshops together, I felt more comfortable. The support I received from the entire cast, especially Rajesh Sharma, who plays my father, helped a lot. It was a very nurturing environment.

Keerti Kadam: When the offer came, did you accept it immediately?

Dhvani Bhanushali: (smiles) Yes, I did! No second thoughts there.

Keerti Kadam: You’ve produced music before, which is quite different from acting. Did you ever doubt if you could pull off a film?

Dhvani Bhanushali: I was already preparing for it! I’ve been doing workshops for the past year and a half, working on scenes with my coach. It wasn’t a sudden jump—it was a gradual process.

Keerti Kadam: What role has your family, especially your father, played in this journey?

Dhvani Bhanushali: My family has been my rock, and my dad, in particular, is my guiding light. He’s very proud, of course, but he’s also my biggest critic. If something isn’t good, he’ll be the first to let me know. His support is priceless.

Keerti Kadam: What are your thoughts on physical and mental fitness?

Dhvani Bhanushali: Mental fitness is as important as physical fitness. They complement each other. I work out every day, but I’m also a foodie, so I can’t sacrifice my dal chawal! I strike a balance. Of course, if a role demands it, I’ll adapt, but in general, I don’t believe in extreme diets.

Keerti Kadam: Now that you’re venturing into acting, will you still make music videos?

Dhvani Bhanushali: Oh, absolutely! I’ll continue with music. It’s my first love. I plan to divide my time between both. After all, who says I can’t be both a pop star and an actor?

As Dhvani takes her first steps into the world of cinema, her passion for storytelling is evident. With a heart full of ambition and a desire to create meaningful art, she’s ready to win hearts both on screen and off.

The song recreated by Lijo George and DJ Chetas will definitely make you dance to its beats. Lyrics by Kumaar, Yash Narvekar and Dhvani Bhanushali have given the vocals to the groovy recreated number.

The entire team came together to launch the song in a multiplex today amongst fanfare. There were seetis, shot and masti on stage while Manoj Bajpayee, Dhvani Bhanushali and Abhimanyu Dassani did some dancing with Ganesh Acharya and his crew on stage.

Says Manoj Bajpayee, “I was glad when Vinod Bhanushali Ji decided to reinvent this classic song. Everyone has loved and cherished this ‘Sapne Mein Milti Hai’ and now that they are bringing it back, the newer generations will be able to do the same. The audience has shown a lot of love to Bhiku Mhatre which is why I had a lot of fun while shooting this video. Even though I am not much of a keen dancer it was a fun experience to relive the memories.”

Dhvani Bhanushali said, “Singing and shooting for Kudi Meri was a surreal experience. I have enjoyed and danced to this song on so many occasions so making the music video made it even more enjoyable and what better than doing this with the OG. Manoj sir is a phenomenal person and adds so much to the video. Abhimanyu and I had a blast during rehearsals and I have finally danced to the steps of THE Ganesh Acharya Sir. But Kudos to Lijo and Chetas for keeping the original element whilst giving it their twist so beautifully and Yash for being my partner in this energetic song.”

Abhimanyu Dassani says, “The song is so lively, I kept grooving to it since the time I have heard it. Dhvani and I had a lot of fun working on this song with Ganesh Sir and his team. It was a great experience working with Manoj Sir & recreating this legendary song was fun. We enjoyed working on Kudi Meri and I hope the audiences will soon start grooving to it.”

Director Ganesh Acharya adds, “We all at various events have danced on the iconic song, and it was fun to give it our twist while choreographing and shooting for the recreation. Dhvani and Abhimanyu have brought so much energy on set and in their performances while Manoj Sir’s presence just makes it 100 times better.”

Producer Vinod Bhanushali said, “Everyone on the song has given their heart in making Kudi Meri and giving the audience an upbeat, energetic song they can dance to. My goal for recreating this cult classic song was so that the current generation who may not have even heard this song gets to enjoy it.
