Dia Mirza has built a layered identity for herself over her multi-faceted career. While she manages her various roles seamlessly, she has also faced her share of internal struggles. Recently, the actress spoke candidly about dealing with pressure and anxiety, emphasizing that recognizing these emotions and working through them has cleared the path to becoming a better version of herself.

Speaking about the same, Dia says, “It was an inability to deal with pressure. And I don’t think most of us are equipped to deal with that kind of pressure. Many of us break, and we don’t even know we are breaking. How many of us live with anxiety…how many of us know our relationships are so hard because we are living with constant anxiety, and that comes from being in a system that is not fueling purpose and is not giving you the space to be.”

Stepping back from the pressure and noise helped her become a more centered version of herself. “From the moment that I stepped back, I am actually doing much more now than I’ve ever done in my life before. I became a film producer at 26; I wrote articles; I worked on the ground with multiple NGOs. I have such a full-body, textured, nuanced existence that I thrive in. And it’s all self-created. No one told me to do these things. I do them because they give me joy, and they deepen my purpose. And yes, I was anxious; I didn’t have the vocabulary to define it at the time.”

After navigating her way, does she feel anxious even today? Yes. “I get anxious even now. I work in climate and gender parity. I feel all levels of anxiety practically daily,” she says and points out that she’s able to witness it and work on it. Dia believes she can empower herself and step out the next day a little more regulated. “I think I am a better mother because I’m able to recognise what’s happening with my body.”

And sometimes, the only way is to identify and navigate your way through it.

Dia has also been widely appreciated for her recent work in Ikka and Operation Safed Sagar. As she gears up to complete 25 years in the industry, fans are eager to see her take on more such challenging roles and exciting projects in the years ahead.

The year 2000 served as a major turning point for Dia Mirza, who captured the Miss Asia Pacific title in the Philippines shortly after being named Miss India Asia Pacific. That same year saw #PriyankaChopraJonas and #LaraDuttaBhupati secure their respective global titles. Looking back on her pageant training days, Dia recently shared memories of moving to Mumbai and living with Lara Dutta, while also reflecting on the reassuring support and warmth she received from Sushmita Sen, India’s first Miss Universe.

“When I started out even before my training to be a Miss India, I hit it off really well with a lot of my fellow contestants,” says Dia Mirza and continues, “Lara Dutta just took me under her wing. I lived with her when I moved to Bombay. She was generous not just with her time and her attention, but also with her home. Sushmita Sen was another senior who was just really kind and gave me a lot of love and a sense of security.”

Further, Mirza also opened up about female friendships, revealing that she is inspired and drawn to women who are “really grounded in reality, who know what’s happening in the world, who are not living an escapist life, and who are not living in an illusion of their own making because it can happen.”

“You can get so caught up in the appearance and in the material that you forget to really interact with reality, and I think that’s essential, and it’s extremely attractive because it defines your authenticity. It helps you know what stories you really want to tell, and that’s the game changer. That’s what will define the choices you make, the kind of paths you take, or what kind of position you take in life,” she concludes.

From 2000 to today, Dia Mirza has come a long way. She dons the hat of an actor, producer, entrepreneur, investor, UNEP Goodwill Ambassador, UN Secretary-General’s Advocate for the Sustainable Development Goals, Ambassador for the Wildlife Trust of India, Artist Ambassador for Save the Children, Board Member of the Sanctuary Nature Foundation and Global Ambassador for the International Fund for Animal Welfare all that make her an influential personality with a purpose.

As India prepares to revisit one of the most defining chapters in its military history, Operation Safed Sagar brings to screen the courage, precision, and sacrifice that shaped the Indian Air Force’s historic mission during the 1999 Kargil War. Set against the backdrop of the Golden Arrows—the IAF squadron whose aerial bravery played a pivotal role in India’s victory—the upcoming Netflix series also shines a light on the untold stories of the families who stood steadfastly behind the men in uniform.

#DiaMirza essays the role of Kamalpreet Kaur Dhanoa, a woman whose quiet strength and unwavering resilience became an anchor for the families of Air Force officers during one of the nation’s most challenging times. Through her character, the series offers a poignant glimpse into the emotional realities of military families, honouring the courage of those who served from the home front.

Speaking about portraying Kamalpreet Kaur Dhanoa at the trailer launch, Dia Mirza said, “Kamal Maam’s part in this story was one of an anchor, somebody who held the women together, who really connected them as a force while their husbands were on the mission and what it meant to her and the women to experience what it was. Even the women that marry into the Air Force don’t know what to expect. They may hear stories but you can never really fully prepare for reality when it occurs. I think one of the big takeaways for me as a wife and as a woman, and as a mother was this line that ‘every single day when their husbands step out of the home they bid them goodbye with a smile on their face even if they’ve had the biggest fight the night before’ and it’s a powerful reality to be rooted in and a very very terrifying one and like Amrita so eloquently explained that it’s impossible for us to ever truly know but we can try and I think we did.” Reflecting on one of the most powerful realities at the heart of the story: the quiet strength of wives who send their husbands off with a smile, knowing they carry the possibility that it could be the last time they see them.

With Operation Safed Sagar, Dia Mirza adds another compelling chapter to her filmography, bringing to life a character that celebrates the resilience, fortitude, and unwavering spirit of the women who stood together during the Kargil War. While the series honours the extraordinary bravery of the Indian Air Force personnel who served the nation, it also pays tribute to the families whose quiet courage and steadfast support became an inseparable part of that story.

Directed by Oni Sen, Operation Safed Sagar stars Jimmy Shergill, Siddharth, Adil Hussain, Mihir Ahuja, Abhay Verma, Taaruk Raina, Prajakta Koli, and Dia Mirza. The series premieres on August 7, exclusively on Netflix.

Indian actor, producer and UN Goodwill Ambassador Dia Mirza has drawn attention to the urgent link between girls’ safety and freedom of movement, marking National Girl Child Day and National Tourism Day with a powerful call for gender-responsive action. Through her statement, Mirza underscored that true progress in tourism and urban development cannot be celebrated unless girls and women can move freely without fear.

“A girl who feels safe enough to travel independently today becomes the woman who will move through the world with confidence tomorrow. And yet, for far too many of our girls, public spaces come with a “safety tax” a price paid in fear, in lost time, in constantly calculating routes, clothes, hours… and in dreams that quietly shrink before they even take flight. “

She further added “As I mark National Girl Child Day and National Tourism Day, I feel this truth deeply: we cannot celebrate movement, exploration, and freedom while so many girls are still navigating the gap between mobility and fear.”

Mirza’s statement draws a sharp contrast between the ideals of exploration and the lived reality of millions of girls and women, pointing out that mobility remains deeply unequal. Citing data from national and global reports, she highlighted that 40% of women in urban India still feel unsafe in their own cities, while incidents of harassment among girls and young women under 24 continue to rise. Globally, UN Women estimates that up to 70% of women experience harassment in public spaces, figures Mirza describes as a “trust deficit” that limits a girl’s world before it has fully opened.

Checkout : https://www.instagram.com/reel/DT4hPIjiHvx/?igsh=ZDFtZnBvNXQwdGRo

Beyond social injustice, Mirza framed women’s safety as a critical economic issue. With tourism contributing nearly 10% to global GDP, she emphasized that exclusion driven by fear restricts access to education, employment and opportunity, ultimately slowing sustainable growth. Calling for visible and measurable action, from better lighting and safer public transport to zero tolerance for harassment, Mirza concluded that designing safer cities for girls creates safer, more inclusive spaces for everyone.

Actor-Producer #DiaMirza recently inaugurated artist #SangeetaBabani’s sculpture titled ‘#QuestforKnowledge’ in #PaliHill, #Bandra. The sculpture, conceived in association with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), showcasing a boy reading book while a dog is seen jumping up to him, promotes the idea of ‘education for all’. Present on the occasion were dignitaries of the likes of Vinayak Vispute (Assistant Commissioner – H West Ward, Mumbai), Asif Zakaria (Ex-Corporator – H West Ward, Mumbai) and entrepreneur Harsh Jagwani.

Education is not a privilege; it is indeed the need of the hour. The idea behind Sangeeta Babani’s latest sculpture is to promote equal educational opportunities for one and all, without any discrimination on the basis of social status, caste, creed, gender, religion et al. The artist shared, “Knowledge is infinite, it has a beginning but no end and it should not be denied to anyone. An investment in knowledge always gives the best returns. Our idea behind the sculpture is to drive home the force of knowledge and its power. Every child in the country should have an easy and equal access to knowledge which in turn will only help them grow as individuals, and will help country as whole, grow too.”

Dia Mirza, who is known for her work as the UN Environment Goodwill Ambassador & UN Secretary-General’s Advocate for SDGs said, “Public Art is a testimony to the dreams and aspirations of citizens we mistakenly refer to as ‘common.’ Sangeeta’s work, ‘Quest for Knowledge’ beautifully reminds every passerby of the power of the written word, of education, of transformative ideas, and the dream of an inclusive, happier, kinder world that a simple act of opening a book can kindle in us. As a mother and a citizen of a country that has the largest youth population in the world, I cannot overemphasize the importance of education for every single child, adolescent and young adult. Without giving all children equal access to education and reducing social and cultural inequities, we cannot hope to grow as a country or achieve the fourth Sustainable Development Goal which aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education for all.”

Sangeeta Babani, who believes Public Art creates a sense of belonging amongst its citizens, and works closely with the BMC, has undertaken to beautify the city she calls home. Not many months ago, she painted a 15-feet high mural, along the underpass in Bandra Reclamation, and garnered much appreciation for the same. The mural has the underlying message of ‘save the environment’. “I have been very passionate about bringing cleanliness and beautification to the city of Mumbai. I feel it needs Art to liven up some of the grimy walls while still creating an impact by touching upon social ideas and cultures to bring awareness to the masses. Art also brings attention to often neglected spaces and encourages people to appreciate the environment,” she expressed.

For the uninitiated, Babani is known for her contemporary and figurative artworks. She has displayed her works the world-over, with exhibitions in India, London, Paris, Dubai et al. While her 18 feet installation titled ‘The Lost Art’ created waves, Babani has also been awarded for her contemporary work in 2017.
