#AnaghaNimbkar says that cases related to marriages are complex and sensitive, and comes with its own set of challenges. She adds that celebs are no different than us, and we must understand that. Rather need better understanding as they are in the public domain. Her expertise also lies in #childcustody, #domesticviolence, #wills and #testamentary etc. Looking back, she started as a banker before turning to law.

“I come from a simple yet erudite family background. My husband Mr. Nandan Nimbkar is a B.com, C.S, LLB and MBA finance graduate. We have a 15-year-old son, Ved. I have been blessed with supportive in-laws,” she continues, “It was my father’s dream to see me as an advocate with the coat and the band, fighting the good fight. So somewhere it was always a thought at the back of my mind. I completed my B.Com degree and pursued my diploma in Import and Export management from NMIMS. Subsequently, I decided to study law. After marriage I was working for ICICI Bank hence had to put a pause on my law studies. It was only during my maternity and post-partum sabbatical that I could complete my law studies. My mother-in-law is the reason why handling the shift of career was smooth.”It would be appropriate to say that my career is my father’s dream supported by the pillar that was my late mother-in-law.

Around 2011, she joined Adv. Mrunalini Deshmukh and in 2016 she started her own practice. She considers Adv. Mrunalini Deshmukh as her mentor.

“Ved was only a year old when I joined her. For a young mother who has to know the hustle to make her place in this field, one can imagine the roller coaster ride it must have been. I remember finishing work, coming home, helping with the household chores, then working on my laptop late at night, reading briefs, drafting and keeping myself updated with the current laws while my son was fast asleep on my lap,” she recalls

Anagha’s clients include op corporate personalities, well known pilots, actors, actresses, writers, stand-up comedians, bloggers from the entertainment industry. “For the sake of their privacy and considering the client-attorney confidentiality, I restrain myself from revealing their names. Considering the sensitivity and complexities of matrimonial laws and issues, challenges are inevitable. While some cases require a much stronger sensitivity and privacy, others involve deeper digging into the laws of marriage to seek relief. In one of the cases during Diwali, while I was celebrating with my family, my client was calling me relentlessly because, even after I had procured the court orders for access, my client was unable to spend Diwali with her only son. So sometimes, it leaves a deep impact on your mind and soul. However, being a professional you ultimately learn to deal with it with maturity and grace.”

No one is happy about a marriage or a family falling apart. “My job gives peace to restless souls. Happy homes are always better. If children are involved their interest is of paramount importance while we work. I believe in trying to first save the marriage by counseling my client for professional couple counselling because I believe there should be no guilt left in one’s mind that what if we could have tried, one last time. Even after the counseling if the parties still want to part ways, we explore possibilities of an amicable settlement so that the clients don’t spend the major chunk of their life at loggerheads in the court. It is only when amicable settlement also doesn’t work, we proceed with the contested proceedings, as we lack the option of irretrievable breakdown of marriage. We need major amendments in Marriage & Divorce laws as ultimately your life is at stake and the children from the Broken families are the future citizens of our country. They need to be brought up in a balanced and healthy environment, she explains.

Our phones have become our #lifelines and our #socialmedia accounts, the means to survive. Maybe no literally, but they are ruling our lives, says actress #SomyAli. Somy, who runs an #NGO, No More Tears in the #US and helps #victims of #domesticviolence and rape, says that such #platforms have a good and bad side to them.

“We are all addicts and share elements of narcissism in us. It is truly sad because these platforms can be used to do so much good and help so many people, but we are all caught up in our own bubbles,” she says.

There are so many celebrities who post everyday, but not all of them have meaningful content, says Somy, adding, “Celebs have an obligation to post on a daily basis as many of them are brand ambassadors and there is nothing wrong with that as it’s their bread and butter. Particularly, not all, but a significant number of celebrities universally are completely into their social media handles. There are no substantial and meaningful posts informing our public about something on their profiles. But some are different, for example, Deepika posting about mental health or Priyanka posting about UNICEF. Shah Rukh shares a great deal of wisdom on his IG while promoting his next film and similarly Amit ji does the same. There is nothing wrong in doing that because it is obligatory for their fans and the producers to be aware of their latest ventures,” she says.

However, the medium has an even uglier side too, says Somy. “What perturbs me the most are the crass feuds that take place on Instagram and other platforms which bring nothing good in our world except the spread of rapid hate and depiction of high levels of illiteracy as well as lack of class. We don’t bark back at dogs, do we?” she says, adding, “Silence is the best response unless you have been a victim of a crime or any injustice.”

She adds, “These platforms have become in a way every individual’s own personal mini website where they are constantly promoting themselves and posting things that people would not truly care for. Above all, how do we even know that a reel or a post is the reality of their lives? These are just seconds of displaying how great and happy one is whereas, hours prior they may have had the worst moment ever.”

She has always tried to stay away from posting every regular activity on social media. “Here’s the troubling part, we don’t care to see what one is eating or if they are brushing their teeth and there are several examples of these inane posts. I do not need to go into detail as they are all out there for us to see. I also detest having phones when friends or families are having dinner together. Call me old school, but I miss the days where friends would come over and we would gossip or have fun conversations. At least that’s what I experienced in my teenage years,” she says.

A balance needs to be struck, she says, adding, “Look, a great deal of good has come from this technology, but there must be a balance like anything else in life. There is nothing wrong in posting a sexy picture of yourself if it boosts your morale, but intertwine your platforms with informative and innovative posts too. That’s a healthy balance in my opinion. I am equally guilty of posting selfies, but I balance out my handle by promoting my NGO. Recently, I posted something very important which is very substantial for addicts whether it’s drugs or alcohol and it was Matthew Perry’s memoir. This might save tons of lives if people took the initiative to read his book. That’s just one example, but like I said, we need balance in everything we do.”

#SomyAli, who has done #multiplefilms as an ##actress in #India, fully turned her life around when she moved to #Miami and started her own #NGO #NoMoreTears. Through her NGO, she #workstirelessly to help #victims of #domesticviolence and #rape in the #US. A #docuseries documenting her #efforts is also currently #available on #Discover+ titled #FightorFlight, however, it’s not available in #India.

“I suspect foul play where it was intentionally stopped from airing by someone who was fearful of my sharing not one, but many truths. It depicts their guilt and their insecurities, not mine. But eventually, someone will upload it online and it will be there for all to see. It is sad because many of the victims we rescue have been brought to the US from various parts of India. So, whoever put a stop to it, took away the opportunity of many lives being saved which makes me devastatingly sad. I am getting a lot of messages on social media. Why can’t the program be seen in India?” she says.

Talking about the response of the series, she adds, “I truly was not expecting such an astronomical response to our show Fight or Flight. I am rather shocked at the abundance of emails I am getting daily from people commending No More Tears; the fact that it’s all volunteer based, no one takes a salary and over 2000 t-shirt sales. Women and men emailing their stories universally and seeking help just prove how domestic violence does not discriminate and neither does human trafficking. In one word, I am simply flabbergasted by the response and it keeps on coming.”

The actress says that she is truly grateful to her NGO for giving a purpose to her life. “I love what I do daily as it’s a feeling like no other. I have a real purpose to get out of bed every single day and save lives. It’s one of the most selfish things I have ever done as a former survivor as it heals me and makes me so happy when I see the victims transform into survivors. It’s a blessing and a privilege to have the ability to help many in need and I am beyond honoured to be able to do so. My life in Bombay when I was an actress was not a happy one and I do not miss it for many reasons which aren’t some big secrets. I do miss India a great deal though and plan on visiting at some point once and if I am granted a tourist visa. At the moment I am very engrossed with my NGO and its expansion in California with a chapter in Los Angeles. I would continue to shuffle between Miami and L.A . as it is Miami where I started my NGO,” she says.
