PR is ever-evolving. From print to video, online and social media, everything is coexisting. I feel instant information flow is the order of the day. It’s like fast food culture, but some stability is needed in the way the industry functions.

How do you incorporate social media into your PR strategies, especially with the rise of short-form content like reels and shorts?

PR has to be customized as per the client’s requirements. The client needs to be educated and informed about how the media operates. Actors have a lot of misconceptions about PR. A strategy needs to be customized as per the personality, and it has to be made relevant as per the profile potential and realities.

How do you prepare for and manage a PR crisis?

We first understand the situation, evaluate the pros and cons of the strategy, and then take immediate action through releases. Client has to be constantly updated, guided and explained what is being done and why.

How has the relationship between PR professionals and journalists changed in the last year?

Most of them are fast-paced workers but are multitaskers too. We have to give them leverage and vice versa. The pressure of competition, breaking news, and interviews of A-listers is there all the time. There are some genuine journalists who suffer because of so-called influencer culture. Influencer types do shoshebazi, which ironically is accepted by a lot of actors because of the influencer’s brand value. Everyone wants to give an interview to someone who is impactful on social media, but his or her nature or personality is immaterial. Quick, short-term gains are what many celebs fall for.

What challenges do you face in pitching to traditional media outlets versus digital or social media platforms? What is the most rewarding aspect of working in public relations today?

You surely feel good when your hard work makes a difference in someone’s career. The positive side is managing a wide variety of personalities. You end up increasing your patience and maturity too in the process. Social media is for us, and we are not for social media. There was a time when we used to crave watching the sex appeal of actors on the big screen, say, for example, #UrmilaMatondkar in Rangeela or #ManishaKoirala in 1942: A Love Story, but now some actors are going all out on social media. The novelty factor is missing because of the instant access. No one cares how much is too much. They feel everyone is doing it, so I should do it too.

How do you handle the situation when a loyal client leaves you?

Not one but three clients left us in 2024, and I surely take it in my stride. What can you do when people imagine things and believe only what they want to? I have stopped reacting, and my mindset is that leaving us is their loss, not ours. Who were or are meant to be part of our career journey will stay. True and honest people don’t need to explain or defend themselves unnecessarily all the time. I am a workaholic, and that is inevitably visible in my work, attitude, personality, and way of functioning. Honestly it is their loss totally, as we are the best when it comes to work. It’s not arrogance; it’s just knowing our own worth. Even the best of so-called good people have shown their immature side by getting carried away with rubbish planted about me and proving that they don’t even have common sense, let alone rationalised objectivity. Irony is they believed what was told just because they wanted to or wanted to imagine things out of their own frustrations.

We as a team bring certain positivity and objectivity, and we are very straightforward and not a yes man to pamper a client’s ego. We try to be their friend, philosopher, and guide and educate them and stand for what is right. Whosoever has worked with us has flourished.

Do you have any industry friends?

I don’t have any friends. I don’t believe in friendships. Friendship is an illusion. People say something, imagine something else, and do something else. I don’t fit into any friendship format. I am too obsessed with my work to have time or inclination for any friendships. Everyone is fighting their own battles, and it is foolish to expect from people who don’t even have clarity and consistency in their relationships. Trust is the base of any personal as well as professional relationship. Actors who claim that if they keep someone in their heart, they keep them there forever, are the biggest fakes.

In which industry you don’t find weed-like clients or you don’t feel bitter about certain happenings, but you have to be graceful and mature. One has to let go or overlook so many happenings. I have always believed ‘raat gayi, baat gayi,’ so I have no grievances against anyone. To be affected by people with bad vibes is giving them too much importance. Frankly, we are that PR team that needs to be deserved. People who left us didn’t deserve the best, I guess.

Which are the relationships that have stood the test of time and circumstances?

What do you have to say about the competition?

Firstly, there is space for everyone, and there is enough work in the industry. Secondly, we mind our own business and are focused on what we have. We are the best and work with the best intentions. We don’t consider anyone our competition. ‘Jo prapt hai paryapt hai’. Like-minded people attract each other. We attract people who are serious about their careers and are good human beings too. We don’t judge anyone and take work by gut feeling. Few mediocre PRs call us old-fashioned PR, gossipy PR, and what not behind our back, and that is why they are behind our back. If we were not the best, why do we have the goodwill and the best reputation and the best clients?

Any suggestions for actors who want to hire you?

Don’t involve your manager or family members in your professional/personal PR. When you have come to the best, trust them with all honesty. If you have come to an expert, trust their expertise. It takes time to build a profile. Durable fame and goodwill is not a two-minute Maggi. Be a good human being and don’t change with popularity or success. The more honest and cooperative you are with your PR team, the better the result will be. We are real people and do and deliver what we say. If you are obsessed with your career or are ambitious then we are the best for you. Please have good relationship with Money. Money is energy. It is to be given with right attitude and love. Spending on PR is investment not expenditure.

What advice would you give to someone who’s just starting a career in PR?

Think twice if you are willing to work 24/7 like an addiction. Focus on yourself and your work. It is your heart that needs to be glamorous, and don’t get fooled by outer glamour or the social media of actors. Actors are as normal as anyone else, but their perception value makes them different.

You are fond of philosophy and shayari. Share a few lines you believe in.

Outside friendships don’t suit everyone, so choose to be your own best friend.

“At a very crucial time in my life, the universe made sure that I was busy, that I was working. If I was sitting at home, I don’t think I would be alive by now. I’m growing and I understand myself more than ever before,” elaborates the actor.

On the professional front, Eijaz is currently seen in a web series titled Adrishyam alongside Divyanka Tripathi.

While Khan is proud of his legacy on television, he doesn’t want to limit himself to just being a TV actor. “That’s the thought I am fighting — breaking the TV image. Why am I not being invited for Bollywood award shows? My TV show was Moh Moh Ke Dhaage in 2015. I did three successful seasons of the web series, City Of Dreams. Then I did a cameo in Jawan (2023) and other projects on the web. Where does one make the transition in my audience’s mind? Not that I don’t want to be called a television actor, but there are boundaries to it, there is a glass ceiling to it,” he says.

The actor has recently shot for his upcoming film Dhoom Dhaam with Yami Gautam and Pratik Gandhi and he is going to start filming another project “with a top actor” soon. “Though I can’t divulge too many details at this point, I will probably be playing the second lead in that film. Honestly, it can prove to be a game-changer in my life. These big actors call me sir, know me as a senior actor. They don’t have any recollection of me from television. They know me from City of Dreams. They know me from Tanu Weds Manu film franchise,” says the actor asserting that his audiences want to see him do good work and meaningful projects that “add more feathers to my cap and not just make money”.

Aly goni – I am planning to go to Jammu to be with my family on Eid. It’s always special whenever I am with my family. My parents have gone for Umrah, and will be back after Eid, so I will wait till they come back to Jammu. I am a big time foodie but I love the sheer khurma and biryani that my mom makes during this time. But she won’t be there this year so my sister will be making all the delicacies. But once my mother is back I will definitely ask her to make it for me before I come back to Mumbai. I don’t cook much but help my family in the preparations. I have many fond memories of Eid and therefore it’s difficult to share just one. But what’s common in all of them is that me and my sister, Ilham, fighting over Eidi.

Hasan Zaidi – Eid is a special festival for me. This year, I won’t be in India to celebrate, I am leaving for Austria and I have an extensive plan to go to Germany, and then to Spain. My daughter’s summer vacation has started. Last year due to the pandemic we couldn’t travel. We have a lot to do in Europe. After a while, you know when your kids are growing up, all your schedules are around their holidays, and their school timings. So this is just that simple case and it’s a little sad that I would not be here for Eid, but I wish everyone from my heart. And in today’s time, there is a war happening in Ukraine, there is tension everywhere. So, I pray for those people who lost their lives, are fighting for a better lifestyle, those who have been separated from their country, from their loved ones. I just wish them well and pray that Allah gives them strength. Well, I love cooking, so kebabs happen for sure. Then there’s obviously sewaiyaan, which is absolutely amazing with my mother making it. And apart from that, there are a few other things there that are made like aloo tikkis and all. There is Biryani as well. Sitting with people together you can have the best food in the world but if you are alone you don’t enjoy it as much. During Eid, I make sure that I make kebabs under my mother’s guidance. My fondest memory of Eid is when we were kids, at that time there used to be so much excitement. Getting new clothes like kurtas, pajamas, new jeans, t-shirts of our choice made us happy. There used to be morning prayers where we all used to go together. We knew that once the prayers are over one gets home, you will get sewaiyan and so much good food. Many people used to come and visit us during this time. Getting money or eidi as a kid used to be a big thing for us. At the end of the day we would start counting to find out who got how much. The time spent with family and friends was so special during Eid.

Eijaz Khan – It’s Ramadan Eid, so my brother, father and I will all go for Eid namaz in the morning. Most of the time the celebration is at my elder cousin’s place, and this time Pavitra is gonna be part of this celebration so we all are excited about that. After namaz, we will have sheer khurma and most importantly we will be giving Zakat before that. At this particular time there are a lot of people who actually need it. My all time favourite dishes are yakhni pulao, dal gosht and biryani. I don’t know what Pavitra plans to cook for Eid this year. Whatever she will cook, it is going to be wonderful. This Eid will be very special. We will be spending time with our family, we have been away from our family for two years now. My fondest memory of Eid is when my whole family used to be together, especially my sisters, brothers, brother in law, nephew and niece. This time, they are in Saudi and are not with us, but when my whole family is together that’s the best Eid ever.

Arslan Goni- I woke up to the shocking news of Lata Mangeshkar Ji’s death. It was a sad Sunday. I have grown up hearing her songs. There is no home in India where we haven’t heard her songs being played. I like her song ‘Ajeeb dastan hai yeh’. Even songs from films like “Veer Zara” and “Silsila” are evergreen. She will be missed majorly but will be alive in her songs.

“Winter reminds me of long bike rides. My favourite season would be winter. I am looking forward to long bike rides and I haven’t done so in the last two years because of the pandemic. I am looking forward to at least one trip this time,” he added.

Winter is here, but Mumbai hardly gets chilly. “The one thing I like about it is that I get really hungry during the winter season. I get better sleep. Overall, it’s an amazing season, especially to get cosy with someone whom you love,” he said.

For winter holiday, he would like to go to Alaska and see the northern lights. “I have a special and deep connection to it. I have a tattoo of the arctic wolf and the arctic lights. I think I would like to see the northern lights,” he said.
As for food during winter season, he said, “Give me the heaviest food posible. Anything that my better half cooks for me.”

It is believed that people in the entertainment industry hardly get long holidays. “I don’t think that’s true. If you are doing television then you don’t get long holidays. Fortunately I am doing web shows now, so in between my shows I do get long holidays. Taking short breaks work better. I don’t get to rest as you go there and then after 2-4 days you have to come back,” said the City of Dreams actor.
According to him, getaways are always very calming. He looks for soothing resorts around Mumbai which is less than 2 hours away. “Favourite destination would be Goa as it has a chill vibe and great places to eat, rest and relax,” he shared.

He has been acting in Hindi shows and movies since early 2000s, and since then he has noticed changes in showbiz. “There is brilliant competition now. I lost out on two projects to one single actor in the recent past. He’s such a good actor. But I am okay with it. Another change I think is that there is more professionalism now. Unfortunately with that, personal equations have gone down. I guess it’s okay because change is the only constant thing,” said the actor, known for shows like Kkavyanjali, Kyaa Hoga Nimmo Kaa and Kahiin To Hoga.

In the early stages of his career, things were very different. “There were times when we had to shoot for long hours. I think in recent times shoots don’t go on for days. But there is no substitute for hard work. There is no shortcut. You have to put in that many hours even if you have talent. The one that is consistent, only that talent wins. So you have to keep putting in your hard work. You have to prove yourself to yourself every day.

“Another learning at that time was you are not going to hit bull’s eye in each and every scene, so you have to pick and choose which scene you really want to excel in and you have to make sure that you give a decent performance in the rest and even if you don’t hit one scene, it’s really okay. It’s not the end of the world. Now, I want to make sure every scene of mine is perfect. It really hurts me for two, three days if I don’t get that scene right.”

TV content has progressed considerably. Asked about it, he said, “I guess so. There are new producers who have a very different outlook towards daily soaps, and that is really exciting. Some of them are my best friends — Nivedita Basu and Sandeep Sikand, to name a few. They are trying to make a difference and I am very excited and looking forward to working with each and every one of them.”

The Tanu Weds Manu actor has also featured in OTT projects. “I have done television, films and OTT. I guess my loyalties will always rely with television because it started off from there. I learnt everything there. Every platform has its own unique flavour for an actor. I am a person who enjoys all cuisines. It’ll be very difficult for me to pick one and say ‘this is the one that I enjoyed the most’. I guess the latest thing that is really exciting to me is the OTT platform because there are so many characters to be explored. There are different kinds of work that are immediately available and there is so much work happening,” said the City of Dreams actor.

It’s not just good work that makes Eijaz happy, but also peace of mind and a good night’s sleep. “Waking up in the morning, watering my plants, smiling and love, these things make me happy,” he said.

For him, the idea of happiness has changed over a period of time.

“More than pursuing happiness, I try to be content with where I am and what I am doing. I try to be a little objective. I try not to give anyone the right over my emotions. There’s only one person who can have that right and she loves me. So I think my idea of happiness is just peace,” he said.

After a hard day’s work, he does different things.

“I could go for a jog, cycle ride, bike ride, swim, have a good bowl of soup or just watch some movies. I just saw Sicario right now because I had a tough day today,” said the former Bigg Boss contestant.
