Sharing the incident, Maanvi, who plays Siddhi in the show, said, “When we were shooting in Italy, we had to shoot a lake scene, and it was freezing cold. The water was so cold that our director Joyeeta (Patpati) asked us to skip it. But, Bani was prepared to do it, leaving Joyeeta surprised. That pumped us up and Sayani and I too decided to go for it.”

Revealing how she convinced them to live this once in a lifetime moment, Bani said, “I was like I got you guys, you have my back, don’t worry. But then, something unexpected happened. The scene was shot in a single take, as it was the last shot of our outdoor schedule. I was hyping everyone up as I was super excited to go for it. I ran towards the lake and jumped, and then I realised it’s deeper than I imagined, my heart went numb. I was like ‘Oh Goodness, Breathe Breathe! But before I could warn Sayani and Maanvi to not take the risk, it was too late,” added Bani.

Bani revealed that she has all the moments captured on her phone, but viewers will have to wait until the season drops on 21st October. “I have been the unofficial BTS videographer. In every season, whenever we shoot something, I’m always ready with my phone to capture photos and videos. I’ve created a new season for myself. When the team will see the vlogs, they will get a flashback of all their memories, but this will go only after the season is out.”

‘Hairspray’ is a celebration of human potential and the story of joyous defiance in the face of racial inequality and discrimination and has been adapted multiple times for the big screen and stage. With two superhit film versions in 1988 and 2007 and a multiple Tony-winning Broadway musical in 2002, this tale continues to resonate with multiple generations. In 2008, another production at London’s West End won four Oliviers.

‘Hairspray Live!’ revisits the Baltimore of the 60s where we meet Tracy Turnblad, a small-town girl who becomes an overnight success after appearing on a TV dance show. The story goes on to show how she deals with her sudden popularity and the inequality she sees in the entertainment world. Directed by Kenny Leon and with a score by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, the musical boasts a dream cast including marquee names like superstar Ariana Grande and EGOT winner Jennifer Hudson.

Says Shailja Kejriwal, Chief Creative Officer – Special Projects, ZEEL, “Certain stories have a core of truth, authenticity and joy that makes them relatable across generations and diverse milieus. Even though ‘Hairspray’ is set in 1962’s Baltimore, we can all identify with young Tracy Turnblad. Like her, all of us at some point have wanted to transcend judgment and limitations to realise our dreams. Like her, we too have wanted to stand up against racial discrimination and to sing, dance, and celebrate life like no one’s watching! This story, regardless of its geographical context, is about human aspiration and the dream of a more equal world. I am sure the Indian audience will love it.”

Maddie Baillio plays Tracy and is joined by Academy Award-winning singer and actress Jennifer Hudson and pop icon Ariana Grande. Hudson plays Maybelle “Motormouth” Stubbs and while Grande plays Penny Pingleton. The show’s stellar cast also includes playwright and voice actor, Harvey Fierstein, as Edna Turnblad, Tony-winning actress and singer, Kristin Chenoweth (Velma Von Tussle), and Disney actress Dove Cameron (Amber Von Tussle), and comedian Martin Short (Wilbur Turnblad).

When asked about the challenges of reprising a loved character again, Arjun said, “It is an interesting process to revisit a previously essayed role and hit new notes and dimensions. One knows that it worked for the audience from all the love and appreciation we received, but the challenge is to take it somewhere new. There is a little pressure to match and even surpass audience’s expectations, but I am positive they will not be disappointed. I am very curious about how the viewers react to Karan’s continuing journey.”

Apart from ‘Made in Heaven S2,’ Arjun also has the second season of another acclaimed show, ‘The Gone Game’, as well as Anshuman Jha’s ‘Lord Curzon Ki Haveli’ with Rasika Dugal in the pipeline.
