What’s more is that Lauren Ridloff played the first deaf superhero in the MCU as Makkari. Beyond that, this is the first time we see a LGBTQIA+ superhero, Phastos. He is in a committed, long-term relationship, and is the only one with a child!

A Spectacular Visual Feast – Eternals sees superheroes traverse the universe, explore unseen terrains, and battle creatures unknown to humankind. Making it a visual treat for fans, the production design was done at an extraordinary and extravagant scale, with close to five stages and 130 sets always working at full capacity. This resulted in a visually soothing and ethereal cinematic experience.

Treat to the linguaphile – Other than English, the Eternals speak and write in Sumerian, Babylonian, Sanskrit, Hindi, Arabic, and Spanish in the movie. Babylonian is an ancient language that had died out in all forms by 100 AD and we see it featured rather frequently in the film. One of only three academics in the world who is able to speak Babylonian, served as an advisor to the filmmakers to ensure that the language was as accurate as possible.

Kingo & Karun – The relationship between Kingo, played by Kumail Nanjiani, and Karun, played by Harish Patel, carries much of the comic relief in this movie, making their friendship beautiful. Karun is there to ensure everything that Kingo needs are always met, wherever they may be. Although it isn’t clearly seen, you can see that Kingo appreciates Karun- having shared with him his biggest secret- an indicator of his trust in his best friend.

Makkari & Druig – Duos with the shortest screen time, stay with us for the longest. Their playful and flirtatious relationship make them super endearing to watch. Druig portrayed by Barry Keoghan isn’t a favourite amongst the Eternals yet Makkari played by Lauren Hidloff brings out his humanity. The only character who has signed to Makkari from the beginning, Druig’s lighter side is brought out by her and he brings out a side of playfulness to her that just exists with him, truly heartwarming.

Sersi & Ikaris – Arguably the most popular duo in the movie, their love story develops over the course of the action and drama. Sersi played by Gemma Chan and Ikaris played by Richard Madden bring out the best in each other even though their love is doomed. In the movie, his inhumanity is a huge driving force in her actions- her humanity is what sways Ikaris to save Earth from The Emergence- a cosmic event that happens once in a few billion years signifying the birth of a celestial.

Thena & Gilgamesh – If true love exists, it’s between these two. Thena portrayed by Angelina Jolie and Gilgamesh portrayed by Don Lee display love and warmth like no one’s business. After Thena is afflicted by Mahd W’yry, a condition that makes her dangerous to others, Gilgamesh swears to watch out for her- and together they lead a quiet life.

Sersi & Dane Whitman – Although they don’t get a lot of screentime, the simplicity between Sersi, played by Gemma Chan and Dane, played by Kit Harington is beautiful. The way they almost unravel themselves and their abilities to each other is gorgeous. Her inherent humanity and need to connect display themselves with the way she commits to Dane, fully aware that she will outlive him due to her own immortality.

The excitement for the Eternals, which is set to hit the big screens next month cannot be measured as it is immense. There are too many reasons to be excited for the Marvel saga that brings to us the celestial being for the first time.

Ahead of the same, the film recently enjoyed a star-studded premiere event in Los Angeles on October 18. The lead cast including Angelina Joli, Salma Hayek, Richard Madden, Kit Harington, Gemma Chan and more were seen in attendance for the special premiere, which got stellar positive reactions on Twitter too!

While Salma Hayek stole the show in a gorgeous black gown with a plunging neckline and a thigh-high slit, Angelina Jolie got her full family at the premiere. Among the men, Richard Madden looked sharp in his velvet suit whereas Kumail Nanjiani went traditional as she chose to go for a purple-and-gold sherwani for the event. Taika Waititi also attended the premiere!

She uses our personalities and our diversity in a seamless way in the film so that it’s unifying at the same time as celebrating. You get the sensation that you’re making almost like an independent film that is huge. It’s not in the sense of an independent, but in the way independent films tell very personal stories. And this is amplified visually and with the stakes. It’s a beautiful combination.”

For Hayek, there is a deeper meaning to the diversity of the Eternals. “The Eternals are all very powerful, but they are the most powerful when they come together,” she explains. “Because they’re so diverse, I think this is also another message: the importance of working together towards helping this planet and embracing our differences. There are a lot of differences between the characters and their ideologies, and their choices. They could remain separated, but as hard as it is sometimes to find a way to take only one path together, they must.”

The Eternals are a race of immortal aliens from the distant planet Olympia who arrived on Earth thousands of years ago to protect humanity from a race of alien predators called the Deviants. The “Eternals” Super Hero line-up is the MCU’s biggest ensemble cast of new characters to date in one movie. It is also unique because the group is made up of an equal number of men and women, and it is the most international and diverse cast to date.

The 10 Eternals played by the diverse group of super-talented actors:

§ Gemma Chan plays Sersi, a humankind-loving Eternal who lives in London and works at the Natural History Museum.

§ Richard Madden (of Game Of Thrones fame) is Ikaris, a strong, serious, mission-centered Eternal with great strength.

§ Salma Hayek portrays Ajak, the matriarch of the Eternals.

§ Angelina Jolie takes the role of Thena, a powerful fighter and warrior.

§ Barry Keoghan plays Druig, an intense Eternal who has the power to control minds.

§ Kumail Nanjiani is Kingo, an outgoing Eternalwith attitude and flair.

§ Brian Tyree Henry steps into the role of Phastos, a master inventor and technopath.

§ Don Lee (Ma Dong-Seok) plays the kindGilgamesh, who possesses great strength but is a fun-loving soul.

§ Lauren Ridloff takes on Makkari, who is the fastest woman in the universe.

§ Lia McHugh plays Sprite, who despite being thousands of years old, exists through time as a 12-year-old girl.

Representing humanity, Kit Harington plays Dane Whitman, who is not an Eternal. He works at the Natural History Museum in present-day London and has a special connection with Sersi.
