Ekta sharma : I remember when I started, there were no phones with cameras so this fan used to write letters and it was a lovely feeling to receive these notes. People also used to take autographs on the road, but now there are many fans, who enjoy taking selfies and sending DMs on instagram. I try to connect with most of them.

Hitanshu Jinsi : Last year, I visited Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha. Since I have portrayed Lord Jagannath’s character on screen, a lot of people came to visit outside the gate. They had travelled 12 to 15 km just to see me. Most of them were very young school kids. But I couldn’t meet them on the first day as I wasn’t aware of their plans. The next day I met some. Fans ki khushi aur pyaar dekh kar I feel motivated to work even harder so that I can surprise as well as entertain them with my performance. One fan wrote an open letter on Twitter that she was going to take her life following some issues in her life but after watching my episodes of Jagannath she took a step back and thanked me for that. It is something that makes me feel very special that I unknowingly could save someone’s life.

Kate Sharma : My most interesting fan moment was in the gym. That fan used to follow me every day to the gym, he even took membership there. But he was very shy to come and speak with me. So I went to him and told him, ‘Do you want a picture?’ and he said, ‘No, I want to spend life with you. And that we have past life connections’, and all. I was shocked. He said you forgot everything and I am here to make you remember your past life. I laughed a lot over this hilarious story.

Karan Singh Chhabra : The most interesting fan experience I had was when I was in Indore. Hina Khan and I went there for a club launch. The club was packed and there came three kids who wanted autographs. So basically they had a slam book where they were collecting autographs of people from the film industry and that was really very special for me. Yes, the autograph culture has now been replaced by selfies these days because everyone has phones now and they want to be seen with celebrities and they want to post it on social media too. So I also think that fans can sometimes be more demanding in situations like these, which at times does turn scary too.

On the other hand Sumbul’s father has been accused of making a call to Sumbul to make her understand the game. But it was not the case. He says,”I have raised Sumbul in a protective atmosphere. We have not followed the game, and I never realised that something like this will happen. Today, I regret that I chose to send my daughter to the show. The main intention was to make her understand life deeply. It’s like in 3 months she will have the experience of 40 years.”

He further adds,”I am thankful to her fans who are giving their unconditional love from day one, but the way she has been behaving inside the house it’s very painful. She has lost her positivity and happiness. I don’t want her to go through any pain again. In her 18 years of life I have never scolded her and neither was it required. But the way her character has been assassinated it’s painful for a father to see. It was a mistake for me to send her in the Bigg Boss house. I would thus request her fans to not vote for her. I am praying she gets evicted this Saturday. The call was not an intention to make her understand the game. I would not have requested her fans to vote her out if that was the case.”

These days we can not imagine our life beyond social media. The space is not just for fun and socialising but also being used for work. Celebrities use social media to reach out to their fans. Bhumika Chawla too has become quite active on social media. The actor shares her experience with the virtual world.

“Social media helps us to connect with our well wishes and it’s a good thing. It’s nice to be on social media, but I like to take time off every now and then. Social media validation is important as popular personalities though if we believe that – that’s who we are and that’s what is worth is, boy! Is it shallow, you have to be mentally strong, emotionally stable and happy and at peace and physically healthy that’s what’s more important,” she adds.

Social media is important for celebrities to get a larger fan base. “My personal view on social media is that every now and then every star, actor, and personality who is being followed by millions should be able to make a difference to the life of those following them. If it’s just fashion and likes garnered and that means bigger business for personalities it’s really not something I feel is worth it. Make a difference if you can,” she urges.

Bhumika prefers to do a few films on and off, and stay away from parties and the hullabaloo of paparazzi. “I am trying to balance my work and home. It’s not easy .. the films I get should also be worth my time and wanting to do. Am not a party person as such,” she adds.

When a person chooses to be a celebrity their personal lives don’t remain private anymore. Ask if she enjoys being an outgoing celebrity who enjoys being papped or someone who stays away from limelight when not working and Bhumika says, “Sometimes being spotted and clicked is good. Maybe not always because then we become so unreal and fake — the fine line between real and reel disappears. We are so good at donning a mask as soon as we see cameras that what is in the heart is not out there. Therefore sometimes it’s good but doing it always can be unreal.”
