“I agree that the audience is very unpredictable. But I also believe that right now, especially in Bollywood, what is missing is a great story. There are a lot of stories that are very real based on true stories, realistic stories, and any agenda, something that has happened in society. But what I feel is that the audience is still looking for a good story, which is mostly entertaining. Audiences watch movies, or plays, to entertain themselves. Nowadays, a good story can be a typical love story, or it can be a great comedy, or it can be a drama. Most of the movies are based on realistic stories, and true stories, I don’t see a lot of comedy movies, which are entertaining, like Hera Pheri. So I think adding this will definitely engage the audience,” she says.

Meanwhile, she is very happy with her career graph. “I am satisfied with the way my career has shaped up, it’s only because whatever I am dreaming, whatever, wherever I’m working towards I have, I am getting it starting from someone who was into BPO. And then being a business analyst in IT, then a project manager, then a beauty queen, then into acting, also, conducting workshops as a life coach, I think I’m pretty much satisfied with how my things are shaping up. And I’m very sure that in acting as well, I am working towards that and I’m going to achieve my dreams,” she says.

Ask her what helps her be passionate about her work, and she says, “I need to make sure that I’m progressing. It can be learning a new skill, it can be doing something new, it can be inspiring someone, it can be adding value to my life or to society. I need to make sure that every day I’m at least moving one step ahead. If I’m giving one audition per day, I know that I am progressing. Before doing theatre when I joined the training, I knew that I was moving one step ahead. When I shot my first theatre and gave my first theatrical presentation, I knew I have progressed. So, these are the things that make me passionate about my work, my aim in life and my daily life as well.”

She adds, “I do not feel monotonous. I make sure that my life is not monotonous. That’s why I have a wide range of careers in my life. That’s why I’ve worked towards adding skills, I work towards meeting people doing something which I love, especially for me, my life is not monotonous and I think everybody should work towards it. There’s no point in just saying that my life is monotonous until and unless you take action to make it exciting. For me, I work on my IT work in the mornings, during the evenings, I work on adding skills.”

Best known for her hit dance numbers, Malaika gives us the most sensational song with her interesting pair-up with Ayushmann Khurrana. The song is weaved by Indeevar & Tanishk Bagchi, with its music given by Tanishk Bagchi & Biddu and sung in the astonishing voices of Zahrah S Khan and Altamash Faridi. Tanishk Bagchi, music director for the film spoke on the making of the song “Aap Jaisa Koi is a very refreshing number. Playing the lead in the film, Ayushmann Khurrana commented – “Aap Jaisa Koi is a foot-tapping track and I am sure it is going to be a chartbuster this party season. I thoroughly enjoyed shaking a leg with Malaika and learnt some grooves. I’m sure it’ll have a connect.”

The makers are really into surprising the fans with one after other interesting reveals from the film. After Jedha Nasha’s surprise teaser reveal at Pune and its smashing release on social media, they planned on dropping another ,chartbuster with ‘Aap Jaisa Koi’. Guess, they’ve done it right!

Set in Kolkata, Toolsidas Junior presented the story of a Snooker champion played by Rajiv Kapoor who succumbs to alcohol addiction resulting in the inability to win the trophy. Determined to shine his family name on the winner’s board, his son, Toolsidas Junior undertakes special coaching by former Indian champion played by Sanjay Dutt to bag the trophy at the Snooker championship.

Recently, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) held a summit for preliminaries of the Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics (AVGC) industry. They came together for a discussion over the changing futures of their respective career paths.

On day two of the summit, experts from the television and movie industry shared their thoughts on what drives the changes in technology. Co-Chairman of CII National Committee on Media & Entertainment, producer Siddharth Roy Kapur was on the panel. He spoke on how the current situation has encouraged makers to save time and money by realising the full utilisation of technology in place of human labour.

He shared, “With travel being as restricted as it is right now, it is amazing that we have created an environment so different from before. It never would have happened otherwise. The fact that we are getting real-time feedback on set is remarkable. The amount of time, effort and cost we are able to reduce is a novelty in itself.”

He further added, “I think producers were less confident to attempt genres that they were intimidated by in the past because of the budgets or the software that were unavailable or expensive. Today, it has actually shown us that with the right creativity and planning one can actually create something that is world-class, without having spend budgets that intimidated us in the past. I think that this is definitely what everyone is going to be looking at as we are putting out a more controlled environment on set and use technologies much more than human beings to do our production. To add to that, I don’t think this is something for the short period we will be embracing.”

Filmmakers have been using extensive technology to give their audience a better movie-watching experience. With the preferences of the audience widening day-by-day, it will be exciting to see the change in the movie-making process.

The Festival is now calling for authentic migrant experience story ideas. Each of the four selected teams will be assigned a budget to create an original script, striving for creativity, originality and pure storytelling. Kabir Khan, Imtiaz Ali, Rima Das, and Onir will workshop and develop the selected stories and oversee pre-production with the teams via the Zoom video calling app. Once travel restrictions are lifted, the four filmmakers will travel to Melbourne to shoot the films. For this exciting short film initiative, IFFM has partnered with Black Magic Design.

IFFM Festival Director Mitu Bhowmick Lange said, “This exciting initiative gives Victorian screen practitioners a once in a lifetime opportunity to work with some of the world’s best filmmakers and also develop relationships with them. I am delighted and thrilled that IFFMhas secured four of India’s most diverse voices of independent cinema for these workshops and the creation of four short films on the core values of IFFM –diversity and inclusivity.”

Rima Das said, “It’s an honor to receive this invitation.  It’s essential for filmmakers to examine the world around them from the prism of its socio-political context. The short film will allow us to bring in authentic lived-in stories that often get lost inpopular culture.”

Kabir Khan says, “Celebration of our diversity is a dialogue that should be fostered in current times. In thepost-pandemic world, being one with each other in a community should be the single most important takeaway. The virus has shown us the futility of everything else. I am excited at the opportunity presented by IFFM and looking forward to the experience.”

Imtiaz Ali adds, “The last few months have been full of life lessons for all of us. Viewing stories of identity in the context of the diverse society that we are all a part of is quintessential for us to chart our path ahead. I am looking forward to meeting a new set of people and understanding their life stories for the screen.”

Onir said, “The role of a filmmaker I believe is to trigger a dialogue. The world we are living in calls for fresh discussions on inclusivity and diversity to reiterate strong value systems for our audiences. I am glad for the opportunity and hope it’s a step in the right direction.”
