Talking about portraying fatherly emotions on-screen, he said, “This is the first time I have done a full-on fatherly role with two little kids, and honestly speaking, I think it was a beautiful experience because I got to explore the fatherly side of myself and I realized how much I love kids and how much I would love to be a father someday. So thanks to ‘Rakshabandhan…’ I have had the realization that I want to be a father someday.”

When the show started he played Umed Pratap Singh, a single father of two kids – Rasaal and Shivraj. Asked if there were any apprehensions about playing a father on-screen, he said, “My character was of course a father to two kids but otherwise he is shown to be a really handsome dude with Rajasthani royal looks. He was shown like a king with a nice mustache and there are so many scenes where he is fighting like an action hero. He is showing off his body while working out. So of course, he’s a single father but a very attractive, very loving man. And I think overall looks-wise, Umed Pratap Singh was one of the most good-looking characters that I have ever played.”

After Umed’s death, the show takes a leap and Nishant is then seen as Shivraj. He said that he is lucky that he got to explore this concept of playing both son and father on-screen and added, “I never thought this would happen with me because usually most of the time this happens with the female leads of a show.”

He further said, “But like I keep saying, I am always very lucky when it comes to television. I get very male-centric roles in female-centric stories too. So in this show, when I played Umed Pratap Singh and now that I play his son, Shivraj, both characters are the center of the show, the story and the actual male protagonist of the show. So I think it is a wonderful opportunity for me to explore this and show that I can play the father and the son and do a convincing job out of it.”

Nishant has two music videos in the pipeline which will be out soon. He stressed that music videos easily reach a lot of people and said, “The chances of the video going viral is much higher if the song becomes a hit. Also, everybody loves music, everybody loves good songs, so if you get to be part of a super hit song, I think that’ll increase my audience by many folds from what I have currently. Let’s hope for the best and hope that my songs do well when they come out.”

Rakshabandhan – Rasal Apne Bhai Ki Dhal, that revolves around brother-sister bonding. Hardika Sharma (As Rasal) and Azinkya Mishra (As Shivraaj) will play the child actors, around which the show will revolve.

Revolving around women empowerment, the story revolves around two children – brother-sister, sister is extremely protective of the brother and feels that like the brother, sister should also protect the brother. Nishant will play the role of Umed Singh and Nyra Banerjee will play Chakori in the show.

The show is set in Rajasthan and the first few episodes are shot in the state. Nishant said, “After a few web shows and Bigg Boss, I am back again on television with a new show. My role is interesting and has many layers, it is all about family values and brother-sister bond. I can’t reveal much about my character but masses will connect with it.”

Nyra said, “Chakori is a simple and sweet girl. I am playing an earthy character and very different from the glamorous roles I have played earlier.”

Rakshabandhan – Rasal Apne Bhai Ki Dhal will start airing from 19th July 2021 Monday to Friday at 7.30 PM on Dangal TV.

Ask him if he will pick up a role with a completely contrasting look, and he says, “A hundred per cent. Otherwise, I will get bored if I take up characters too similar to how I am. I enjoy following a new journey on a show and I like wearing different clothes and accessories. I am able to feel a new thought process and the life that my character leads by doing this. In fact, prefer such roles.”

However, he makes sure to dress in his style when he is off-screen. “I believe that I am Abhinandan Jindal. My work is to act and I do different characters. People recognise me as Saajan, Munna… and that is a good thing. But At the end of the day, I want people to know me. If I am doing a show and wearing these clothes, I will not wear them outside. I work 12 hours a day and I am very dedicated and honest towards my work. I practice my screenplay. But my clothes are always different than what my character wears. No one binds me to wear those clothes when I am not shooting. If my fans want to see him in those clothes, then they don’t want to see me but my character,” he says.

While he loves to be fashionable, there is a certain trend that he just doesn’t get. “I like watches, bands but nothing more than that. There are some guys who wear sunglasses at pubs and that I don’t understand. This is a trend started by Honey Singh, I guess,” he says.

Ask him what his go-to look is, and he says, “Well, that depends on where you are going? The weather, location, who you are meeting!”

This year, Abhinandan is going to make an effort be more casually dressed, he says. “I want to flaunt my abs and show a youngish look…so like ripped jeans and body fit T-shirts. I don’t want to go in for a formal look this year. I want to portray a youngish look and will pick up a show also accordingly,” he says.

Sharing his views on the same, he said, “The number of followers has become an ego game. People are wrongly focusing on the number of followers more than the body of work of an actor. It has become a parameter of talent, and a parameter of fame for people to boast about, so even though people are making efforts, some are faking it on social media just to gain more followers.”

“There are many actors who are great at their jobs, but they don’t have a huge social media following because that’s not their forte, they don’t like to do that, they just don’t fit in that kind of scenario whereas there are some very regular actors who have ten times more number of followers. So I don’t think that the number of followers is a measurement of talent at all,” he added.

The “Ram Milaayi Jodi” actor also asserted that though social media has bridged the gap between actors and their fans, people should be careful while sharing a post on social media because there are a lot of people who look up to them and want to imitate them.

“Social media has become a part of every actor’s life. Everyone is looking for maximum reach and maximum connection with the audience and social media is the best possible way for that. You get the first-hand response of the audience and first-hand love of the masses,” Nishant said.

“But with great power comes great responsibility. If someone is a really big influencer on social media and is influencing millions of people, then that person should take it seriously and only post what they think is healthy and safe for people to emulate,” he added.

Do you think social media is more of an ego massage tool? “It is absolutely. Because more than your body of work, you are boasting about your number of followers, and getting false respect out of that,” Nishant concluded.

While the lockdown was not easy for anyone, Abhinandan made sure to be productive in it. “Meditation is one thing which I learnt during that time and I am doing a lot of it. We all have learnt the value of life. We are all valuing nature more now. And we should continue to do that,” he says.

The actor has been seen in shows such as Thapki Pyar ki and Krishna Chali London, and says that he is on the lookout for interesting characters. “I want to take up a character which has depth and intensity. Yes, there are fewer roles in that genre but if I get my kind of role, I can be really good,” he says, adding, “I want to get the lead role on a TV show where I can portray different shades. Even if I don’t do that, I should play maybe a split-personality, you know something with a positive and negative shade. A type of role where my performance can be judged. For me, acting is not only about delivering your dialogues, it’s much more than that.”

While he works hard, Abhinandan says that he likes to unwind after a long day. “Going on a long drive is my favourite pass-time. I also love to travel alone a lot. Spending time with myself is my favourite thing to do,” he says.

However, the memory of getting Guddan Tumse Na Ho Payega is something he will cherish for life. “The memory that I will cherish would be getting a call from Jay Mehta Production and getting finalized for a show for which I was waiting for two years. That feeling, that emotion was completely different and I can’t ever forget that moment. Getting Guddan Tumse Na Ho Payega was the biggest achievement for me,” he says.

The wish to be in front of the camera again was what kept him positive during the lockdown says Abhinandan. “My desire to get back to my work, those hopes of getting back on sets and working again kept me going. I worked on myself and promoted myself through social media. I created videos so that people don’t forget me,” he says.

The actor also picked up a few new skills. “Apart from my daily routine, I started meditation which is something I feel helps us stay calm, pushes away the negativity and also helps in maintaining focus. Meditation has helped me so much that I do it often and, yes, I did watch all of my previous telecasts. I generally don’t watch my own telecast but this time I watched all my performances and worked on being a good performer,” he says.

Talking about future plans, he says, “I want to do a lead role in a show or a web series. I have a strong desire for being the face of a show. I love doing performance-oriented work and that’s what I wish for.”

Abhinandan has always been close to his family. “I was shy and always a mumma’s boy. My hometown is Chandigarh, and I was not keen to come to Mumbai. My father was in the Army and he was fond of acting. He came to Mumbai and also met a lot of actors and clicked pictures with them. I, on the other hand, was keen on cricket and played for nine years but due to injury I had to leave the sport,” he says.

After this, the actor joined the glamour world. “After I left cricket, I started going to a gym in Mohali. I have been always fond of fitness. One day when I was working out a person came to me and offered me a print campaign. That point of time I was not even aware of what print modelling was. That was the starting point,” he says.

His family supported him in fulfilling his dreams, says Abhinandan. “I am a lucky son who have got the best parents in this world. My mother has been my idol and she has never left me alone. She taught me tolerance and the meaning of dedication. My father being in the army is a strict disciplinarian but he has given me full freedom in acting,” he says.

However, then his struggle in the industry began. “When I was modelling, I used to travel from Chandigarh to Delhi and used to go to door-to-door for seeking work. I have always believed you can never be an actor by just sitting in an airconditioned room. I became the lead face in the world of modelling and then one of my pictures appeared in a film magazine and a production house spotted me. Though I was not selected for the role but that was my first exposure to auditions and I really liked the experience,” he says.

The actor has been part of many shows but a few are the closest to his heart. “I have been lucky to be able to show my versatility as an actor. Sasural Simar Ka was my debut as a lead and I just cannot forget it. It was a sophisticated character, from a royal family. In Thapki Pyar Ki, I played a tapori, the accent was of a loverboy, very emotional. Another show, JijiMaa, was significant as after the first episode only, I got a call from the production house of Saurabh Tiwari for the show Krishna Chali London. So, I was directly recommended by the channel. In that show, I played a cameo for 1-2 months but it was a lead character and I made the character how it turned out to be. Jay Mehta sir also knows this and he, till date, wants to cast me in his shows. That was a flamboyant character, like Aamir Khan’s role in Secret Superstar. I put in all my energy in that. It was really impactful and which is why I got to play a proper kanpuriya in Krishna Chali London,” he says.

He adds, “Besides these, Munna in Thakpi Pyar Ki is my favourite because, as Munna, I have played various shades on screen. The team of Thapki was also good. It was a changing point in my career. Saajan of Krishna Chali London also was very close to me. I am a lucky actor to get all these roles,” he says.

Talking about being part of Guddan Tumse Na Ho Payega, Abhinandan says, “I joined the show Guddan Tumse Na Ho Payega in September and then there was a gap for a month. Now I am back in the show again. Aarav is a protective brother to Guddan and to him, his sister is his world. I do look a bit different in the show now. Previously my look was a bit raw but now it is more mature.”
