‘Hush Hush’ will have an almost all-female crew

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Amazon Prime Video announced it’s upcoming series Hush Hush (working title), led by an all-women cast and crew. Amazon Original Hush Hush (working title) not only tells a story with strong female protagonists, but it is also helmed by some of the finest female talent behind the camera. Tanuja Chandra (Qarib Qarib Singlle, Dushman, Sangharsh) will serve as the Creative Director & Executive Producer and Shikhaa Sharma (Shakuntala Devi, Toilet – Ek Prem Katha, Sherni) will double-hat as Executive Producer and original story writer. Kopal Nathani, one of the most promising names in the advertising films industry directs episodes in the show. National Award-winning writer Juhi Chaturvedi (Gulabo Sitabo and Piku), has been roped in to pen the dialogues for the series written by Ashish Mehta. The series will be produced by Vikram Malhotra’s Abundantia Entertainment (Breathe, Breathe: Into the Shadows, Shakuntala Devi, Airlift).

Get ready for a roller-coaster ride filled with humour, drama and non-stop entertainment as Sony MAX brings to you the World Television Premiere of 2020’s much appreciated satire, dramedy Gulabo Sitabo on 8th November at 12 PM. Starring veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan alongside the versatile Ayushmann Khurrana, Gulabo Sitabo is a quirky tale of a landlord and his tenant who are constantly at odds with each other. A Rising Sun Films production, Gulabo Sitabo is directed by Shoojit Sircar, written by Juhi Chaturvedi and produced by Ronnie Lahiri and Sheel Kumar.

Working with Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana together for the very first time, Shoojit Sircar shared, “Since I have worked with both of them earlier, somewhere down the line, there is trust, bonding, and comfort between us, and that has grown slowly and matured. Of course, it is a creative process, and we keep challenging each other all the time. We challenge Mr Bachchan, and he challenges us. That is very important for that good, healthy working relationship. The vision of the film needed the chemistry between these two people to be crackling. It took a little time. If you work with Mr Bachchan for the first time, it does take a little time to get past that aura and in the beginning, that hesitation was there with Ayushmann and then it became fine. Mr Bachchan also made him very comfortable. In fact, he’s never intimidating, he’s very easy. He may look like he isn’t easy (laughs), but on set he’s absolutely a director’s actor, and also one of the most fascinating co-actors to work with. My crew is a close-knit family, as I always work with the same people. So with Ayushmann working here felt like a family member returning.”

Shoojit shared what according to him are the top reasons to catch the World Television Premiere of the film on Sony MAX, “A lot of people have told me that they have got a very warm feeling after watching the film. They loved the fresh pair of Mr Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana. I have also got tons of feedback on how Mr Bachchan is almost unrecognizable, which I am quite happy about. We wanted to achieve that and it was successful. I have made the film with a lot of warmth and for me, Gulabo Sitabo is a satire. I wanted to do satire and I think it’s turned out exactly how I wanted it to be. It’s a satire on very simple people who are struggling with their lives every day. There are these two characters — Banke (played by Ayushmann) and Mirza (played by Bachchan) — and also many other characters. In this film, I have explored a world which is an absolutely new and challenging world for me. I’ve not ventured into these characters and this space before. I wanted to present Lucknow with a new visual feel, which the audiences have appreciated.”

Gulabo Sitabo, set in Lucknow, revolves around the battle of ownership of a dilapidated mansion owned by Mirza, played by Amitabh Bachchan and Baankey, an impoverished tenant, played by Ayushmann Khurrana. Both of them are always at loggerheads with each other, fighting for the payment of the rent. Surprising the audiences with an unexpected twist, the film teaches a beautiful lesson towards the end. The film also see some versatile supporting cast including Farukh Jeffer, Shrishti Shrivastava, Vijay Raaz, Tina Bhatia, Brijendra Kala and Poornima Sharma.

Gulabo Sitabo offers much more than the fun nok-jhok between Mirza and Baankey as it promises to enchant viewers with its powerful screenplay and cinematography. The film will take the audience to Lucknow’s old-world charm –its decaying but beautiful mansions, tuk-tuks and cycle rickshaws running across the narrow lanes of the city. Through the movie camera, beautifully managed by Abhik Mukhopadhyay talks to the audience as it takes glides through the Nawabi city, ‘Muskuraiye Ki aap Lucknow Mein Hain’.

Himansh Kohli’s special birthday wish for Big B

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan will turn 78 on Sunday (October 11). At an age when people think of retiring, Big B refuses to slow down and still works with the same passion and dedication that he did almost five decades ago. Young actor Himansh Kohli is a big fan of the “Shahenshah” of Bollywood and calls him an inspiration.

The “Yaariyan” actor goes on to say that it’s sometimes unimaginable the kind of things Big B call pull off. Wishing him on his big day, he said, “A very Happy 78th to Amitabh Bachchan sir. Wishing him more glory, happiness and success to keep him going even at this age. No one can still believe the kind of things he is able to pull off like it’s nothing. He is the prime source of inspiration and someone with more experience than an entire industry put together. In fact, it’s because of people like him that we have touched base in all nations across the globe.”

Himansh admitted that it would be unfair to name just one movie of his as the best one, and said, “To put one movie under the best or my favourite category will be an injustice to many good acts that he has done. But, I recently watched his film, ‘Gulabo Sitabo’ and I have fallen for his work all over again. His character, Mirza was spellbinding and beyond perfect.”

Well, we couldn’t agree more with Himansh. Big B really did a fantastic job in “Gulabo Sitabo”. And we can’t wait to see more of him on the big screen.

Trade analyst Komal Nahta questions producers, ‘Are you earning from OTT releases?’

The Indian entertainment industry is witnessing a massive shift with the lockdown in place due to the pandemic. Theatres are shut and the digital release of films has taken precedence, keeping the momentum in mind. But are these releases benefitting the producers? Here’s what Industry’s film trade expert Komal Nahta has to say.

Komal Nahta explains, “When the cinemas shut down, the OTT platform extended their hand and told the producers that they would pay an extra amount over the amount that they have already promised and the producers should release the film on their platform as the cinemas are shut. The producers now got a new way to liquidate their funds that were stuck during the lockdown. If they would wait for the cinemas to reopen, a monthly interest would have been charged and as the opening of the cinema is extremely doubtful in the near future. Even if the cinemas reopen will the public really come to the theatres to see the film?”.

He further adds, “The first move was made by thr film ‘Gulabo Sitabo’. This was the first film to release on Amazon Prime Video. Looking at this, even the other producers started releasing their films and as of now, there are 18 to 20 films which have already been released or are committed on various platforms. Apart from that, there are 5-7 more films whose negotiations are still going on. This is definitely making the producers happy as their funds are getting liquidated but along with that the cinema owners are definitely unhappy.”

Talking about if the OTT releases are benefitting the producers, Nahta says, “If you are wondering whether the premiere on an OTT platform is beneficial and profitable to the producers then here is what you need to know. Say for example, prior to the lockdown the streaming rights are finalised for 500 million on the same side just for the premiere, the base amount will be 100-150million more, so it will be almost 20- 85% more profit but taking into consideration that the film is not releasing in the cinema.”

For those who have been waiting to see Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana’s Gulabo Sitabo, the wait is finally over as the film is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video. After the trailer released, people were eager to see the camaraderie between the two lead actors as both of them are quite sincere and dedicated when it comes to giving 100% to their characters. It’s the first time that two have paired together and it’s surely one of the big highlights of the movie. Shoojit Sircar and Juhi Chaturvedi have always created masterpieces and people wanted to see if they crack the deal with this one too.

Full of sarcasm and wits, Mirza (Amitabh Bachchan) and Baankey (Ayushmann Khurana) are constantly outwitting each other with epic one-liners that will leave you with a bundle of laughs. 1. Iski jyadat wali suraat kaha. : A frustrated Ayushmann bickering about his stolen bulb while every other thing in haveli remains untouched is quite a sight to witness. The witty reply by a straight face Mirza aka Amitabh pretty much establishes their equation in the first 30 minutes of the movie. 2. Humein Pata nai tha ki aap itne gareeb hai : Another hilarious moment from the film is when Baankey (Ayushmann) tries to share his ordeal about sharing a toilet with the Landlord’s family; his sassy girlfriend takes a dig at him but giving an honest yet amusing reply leaving us all rolling on our floor with laughter.

3.Jao apni bakrio ke saath baitho : The entire film gives us an adorable glimpse to the love-hate relationship between the duo. The raw and versatile acting along with excellent comic timing is what makes it’s a joy ride. One such example of this is when Mirza ask Baankey to pay for parking his bike. 4. Chillao mat, attack aa jaega : Undoubtedly one of the funniest scenes in the entire movie is when Mirza is complaining and comparing Baankey with a termite that he can’t get rid of!!! 5. Ab maza aaega : At one point, Mirza’s frustration with his tenants reaches the roof and decides to put his beloved haveli on sale, but because of its archaeological relevance, it would need government’s permission. And that is when the story takes a hilarious turn.

Filled with quirky punchlines and rib-tickling moments, the interesting camaraderie is a total entertainer!!!! Featuring Vijay Raaz, Brijendra Kala amongst others, Gulabo Sitabo, is directed by maverick director Shoojit Sircar.
