Set against a raw, real-world backdrop, Krishna Arjun tells the story of twin brothers — Krishna and Arjun. Krishna is portrayed as a strong-willed yet kind-hearted individual who is also homosexual. His sexual identity leads to social and familial ostracism, ultimately forcing him to leave home in search of peace. Arjun, on the other hand, remains with the family, supporting them through emotional and financial crises.

The story weaves in a multitude of hard-hitting social issues. From caste discrimination, political corruption, and sexual assault to bureaucratic apathy, the film pulls no punches. One of the film’s darkest turns involves Arjun’s father, burdened by debt, attempting self-immolation, only to be set ablaze by a ruthless loan agent. In a parallel track, a pregnant rape victim finds herself accused rather than protected when she approaches the police — a gut-wrenching reflection of real societal failures.

The narrative intensifies as Arjun clashes with a corrupt minister who once offered him a deal: his mother’s treatment in exchange for three murders. Arjun refuses, and the minister sets him up with false charges. While in police custody, Arjun reunites with the pregnant woman — his first love — and tries to protect her from the minister’s grasp.

Krishna Arjun is unapologetically bold, tackling casteism, LGBTQ+ stigma, Hindu-Muslim dynamics, and political exploitation. Tiwari chooses not to sugarcoat reality. The film deliberately avoids songs or commercial distractions, instead relying on a raw, documentary-like realism. The pacing occasionally dips, and the absence of scene transitions might not appeal to all viewers. The film blends love, loss, action, humour, and stark realism, reflecting many harsh truths young Indians see around them daily.

It’s a film that challenges norms — both in form and content — and deserves credit for its ambition and social relevance.

According to Tiwari, the CBFC has flagged the film for allegedly depicting caste-related issues and containing scenes deemed inappropriate. He, however, strongly disagrees with this assessment, stating that the film is an engaging, socially relevant story without any elements that should raise alarms. The controversy has drawn attention not only to Krishna Arjun but also to the growing interest in experimental formats like one-shot films in India.

Alongside Hemwant Tiwari, the film boasts an extensive cast that includes Aroshikha Dey, Anil Pandey, Atul Shukla, Ayaz, Dharmendra Tripathi, Dr. Minakshi Jalgaonkar, Govind Pathak, Gaurav Gogoi, Gulshan Kumar, Geet Gangwani, and Krishna Kedar.

In light of the CBFC’s decision, Tiwari plans to hold a private screening for select members of the media, film critics, and cinema experts to offer them a firsthand experience of the film. In the meantime, Krishna Arjun is already accessible to the public via Tiwari’s official YouTube channel.

Actor Hemwant Tiwari has recently been in the news as his directorial debut, Lomad, a one-and-half hour black and white film won its 24^th selection and 11^th award. And the most recent one being, The Best Actor in a Leading Role category and Best Director category at the Accolade Global Film Festival, California, US, running for the 17^th year.  However, the day the Indian born, international actor made the announcement on his social media handles, Hemwant got the shock of his life when one of his friends told him that Lomad was pirated and was available in full-length on YouTube.

When contacted, Hemwant said, “I was shocked!” He checked out the film online and realised they had used only a poster and not the film. “It was a moment where I felt multitudes of contrasting emotions at the same time. In a day’s time, when I went back to check the link to connect to cybercrime, I saw that it was deleted. My friends on social media reported the channel and with multiple reporting it got deleted.”

Lomad, a film in a single continuous shot, with no camera-cuts, no editing, is a survival-themed crime thriller wherein Hemwant gave an opportunity to FTII graduates in the project. And the moment he mentioned the experimental genre of the film, people were excited to come on board! Hemwant rehearsed with the team for almost 10 days on location. But on the final day, he had to reshoot the film all over again after 88 minutes. “In the first take, the card finished at the 88th minute, and they had forgotten to change the card.” Undaunted, Hemwant shot the film one more time.

Hemwant Tiwari is known for his short film Life Is Beautiful that featured in Cannes, post which he made his global debut with the international Sci-fi series, Medinah. Hemwant will now be travelling to Iran and Israel for Lomad next, besides having an international series with global cast and two Indie films lined up for 2021 shoot and release.
