It feels surreal! I always watched reality shows and wished that I would be a part of one such show someday. But what I never imagined was winning my first dance reality show; it’s truly a dream come true for me. When I was selected in the ‘Behtareen 13’ after Aniket Chauhan, that moment, for me, was a winning moment. I never thought I would come this far in the show. Through the course of this competition, I tasted both success and failure. Failure is important too, as it teaches you a lot, and that helped me give my best and push harder. Today, because of it, I have become a better dancer. Words can’t describe what India’s Best Dancer Season 3 means to me; it will always be close to my heart. Lastly, I would like to thank ‘’My People’ for believing in me and supporting me. My win is their win too.

This season of IBD was special as we had the most eclectic mix of talent, and a good representation from Contemporary to Classical, Hip-Hop to Bollywood! I also feel the talent of this season was a cut above the rest, by bringing in freshness, innovation and more importantly, ease in their skills! The top 5 were so neck to neck in competition that we couldn’t see a clear winner because all the top 5 gave tough competition. However, with regards to Samarpan, I have to say that in the audition itself, Samarpan of 18 years, was a breath of fresh air, and he brought in with him a new wave of contemporary dance that didn’t rely on gymnastics or circus acrobatics, but rather real and sophisticated talent in dance. He had the ability to articulate his emotions beautifully through his skills, with ease and confidence, which was missing so far! His win is historic as he will be the first Contemporary Male Dancer to win a title in this style and I’m very happy that he will be the flag bearer for contemporary for a long time to come. Wishing him all the luck for his future.

I loved the concept, and the way Deparna and Hansvi portrayed the act, you added your own vibrant colors to it. Some moments created by Hansvi and Deparna were simply amazing. Deparna, I have never seen you attempt this dance from before, and it was a very commendable attempt. It was a great risk to take at this stage, but it paid off. Even though this isn’t your typical style, Deparna, you managed it wonderfully. Hansvi, your grace and infectious energy lit up the stage – it was ‘Kamaal Ki Energy.’ Deparna, I loved the way you set up the act, the colors, and the overall energy.”

The way your legs moved, the slides, and especially the musicality you displayed in the first solo – when the lyrics ended, and only the music played, I absolutely loved that section. Aniket, you executed it with finesse, and it was a joy to watch. Aniket, you added a slide in the second section, and you did it playfully. I must say, in Hollywood, there were two amazing dancers, Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly; their uniqueness was their comic timing, and they could have fun and play with it at a different level. Aniket, you matched up to the level of these dancing legends.”

I remember after the accident when doctors told me, “You will lose your leg”, my father walked into the room and said, “I will be your leg”. And I asked him – till when, can you give me some guarantee. He then promised me, saying, “I will walk with you till the day you become successful and reach the peaks of success” and he kept his promise. He saw my success and I always say, for any child, there is no greater gift to give your parents than your success. Never lose hope, keep going every day and fulfil all your dreams. I follow this till today and keep telling myself ‘I am the best.”

Terence Lewis will go on to talk about the emotional connection he has with Sudha Chandran, saying, “When this incident happened with Sudha ji, I was around 5 or 6 years old. My oldest sister, who was a classmate of Sudha ji, came back from school one day and told us about the accident; we were all shaken. During our evening prayers, we would all come together and pray for her. I remember for the longest time, my father would say one prayer especially for her recovery. When Sudha ji got the Jaipur Foot, we all celebrated, and it was a very emotional moment for us.”
