When it comes to reading the script and comprehending the lines before getting in front of the camera, initially I used to find it slightly difficult because of the use of shudh Hindi, but with the support of my co-actor Naman Arora and a little pre-production research and reading, I am have got the dialect right. My crew is quite helpful, since they are always willing to help me with any word or phrase in the script. I can easily approach anyone and ask for assistance, which has simplified the procedure. After packing up, I watch a few YouTube videos on language improvement and read shudh Hindi stories and articles to improve my command of the language. I’m confident that I’ll become an expert at it in some point. I’m thrilled to be a part of this show, which not only allows me to enhance my acting skills but also to improve my language and dialect.”

Baabu’s personality is very different from mine yet there’s something so relatable which I’m still trying to explore. I am quite fascinated by Baabu’s life. I enjoy playing Baabu as much as Baabu enjoys life. Unlike some usual humdrum dramas on tv, the touching narrative of Dosti Anokhi will probably refresh your mind. Things are mostly exciting on set. Especially when Ismeet’s around She’s fun. Rest with the entire team of the show, it doesn’t feel like I’m shooting for the first time”.

You are returning to television after a brief period, why did you decide to take up this show as your return?
I personally love stories based on real human connection and relationships. They touch your heart and as an audience, you’re able to relate and resonate with them. As the name also suggests, Dosti Anokhi highlights a beautiful and unique friendship between a 72 year old man and 23 year old girl who come from different walks of life and yet find comfort and solace in each other’s company after a lot of friction at first.

The announcement date of Dosti Anokhi is out and viewers can’t keep calm. How excited are you?
I couldn’t be more excited! My friends and family are also eagerly looking forward to it. I believe it’s a kind of story that has not been showcased before on television. It’s like a breath of fresh air. So, yes I am very excited.

You started your career with television and the space has evolved immensely when it comes to content, what do you have to say about it?
Yes, it has evolved in terms of variety, scale of performance, superior content creation and more. So, it’s an exciting time to be an actor and performer because with time, even the audience has evolved.

How is it working like with Sushmita ji and Ismeet ?
Susmita Ji is a wonderful co-star, I have known her since many many years now. She’s a dear friend. Not to mention, she’s an actor beyond par excellence. So, sharing the screen space with her is a very insightful experience. And Ismeet is also a delight to work with. All of us get along really well and it doesn’t really feel like we are working when we are together.

How has your experience been shooting in Banaras? Any specific moment that you would like to talk about?
Banaras has been exceptionally great. It’s been a treat to shoot at such beautiful location instead of our typical studios. People of Banaras are so incredibly warm and the food is just amazing. One specific moment that comes to my mind is when I had to take a dive in the numbing cold water of Ganges for a scene. I was nervous at first, but when I saw the end product, it was all just worth it.

What should the audience expect from this show?
The audience should expect a heart-warming tale of two individuals who are battling different issues in their lives but unexpectedly find comfort, solace and a friendship in each other. It’s a story of pure, unconditional equation that two drastically different individuals share.

What do you like the most about your character? How is it different from what you have done in the past?
I like that while he is a short-tempered, frustrated at life old man, but when life throws him a curveball and comes this bright bubbly girl, slowly but eventually, he becomes open to change. She helps him open up and he lets her do that. So, that was a really endearing transformation of my character that everyone will witness. It’s different from what I have done in the past because the story and its essence is very unexplored. So, naturally, my character is also new and exciting.

In a candid conversation with Ismeet Kohli here’s what she had to say about her role and the show.

Dosti Anokhi marks your television debut, what made you say ‘yes’ to do a show like this?
The driving factor behind choosing ‘Dosti Anokhi’ was the story which is not unique but very cute. Even when I was being narrated the story I was smiling and had happy tears in my eyes. Also, Sony Entertainment Television has been very experimental with its shows compared to what other TV channels are doing. The production value, the way things are handled, is very natural and real. So, while making the decision, I considered how sony looks at its tv shows and how the story was, also the character which I am playing is very adorable, so I did not have any reason to decline the show.

Can you please tell us about your character ‘Purvi’?
In the show, everybody says “Purvi is mad” which I believe too but I think she is adorable as well. She wears her heart on her sleeves. Purvi knows that she wants the love of her life and she is not afraid to go after it. A hopeless romantic girl, she believes in the power of love and will do whatever it takes to live a happy life. She is a simple girl and does not want to hurt anyone.

Dosti Anokhi brings forth a fun slice of life drama about two polar opposite individuals sharing a unique and heartwarming bond of friendship. How would you like to describe the story in your own words?
Friendship is all about how they teach each other a lot of things. Purvi comes into Jagannath life and how becomes softer overtime with everybody especially Kusum, his wife. As the story progresses, the good part is that they also help each other navigate life in their sweet ways. One will learn a lot about love what it means to be in a long term committed relationship, What love means to the older generation and what love means to the younger generation.

Do you relate to Purvi and her traits personally?
Personally in a lot of ways, yes but in some ways no. She has a crazy personality which I relate to and both of us do not have any filters when it comes to speaking our heart out. I love Purvi as a character, there are moments when I feel she is very relatable. I think it’s great how naive and innocent she is because I think as you go through life, those traits kind of go away. I think I am more pragmatic and more practical when I approach love as a subject. I don’t think I dare to run away for love. She believes love should be all-consuming but that’s not my belief. But otherwise even I am a chatterbox and wear my heart on my sleeve.

You recently shot in Banaras for your show, how was the experience like?
My experience while shooting in Banaras was outstanding. We all met for the first time and got along really well. It was super cold but the food was fantastic. At the ghats on the Ganga it was just very beautiful and something that I have not experienced before so overall it was exciting to shoot over there.
