We connected on Instagram. I have seen people going crazy about Korean content. We don’t really see much of Korean creators or Korean stars doing things on India. The fact that these guys are making such good content on India and even travelled to India is interesting. Their love for indian food is also very evident.”

Why do you feel Korean music and dramas have been getting so much attention in India? ” I think the major factor is that there is a lot of similarity in family values between Indians and the Korean households. So when you watch the drama you kind of relate to them. The way the dramas are made – the production quality, the stars, the performance – are all very nice and that’s why its appealing to all age groups and people in India.

Also the drama has everything people want to see including romance and a lot of comedy. The visuals, the story, the production quality everything is so good. That’s why people are following K drama so much.”

So what kind of series and music you watch? “I am in the process of knowing more and more and whatever I have known till now I am extremely impressed with it and thats why even thought of doing these live sessions with Korean creators. I love BTS and Stray Kids a lot and looking forward to explore more K drama.”

Asked which one she prefers — anchoring or acting, she said, “It’s like asking a parent to choose between their kids who is your favourite. I love both because while I’m on stage, I get to be myself and I can do my own thing. When I’m in front of the camera, I get to be the character that I am playing, so both have its own charm. Having said that, being on stage and hosting a show has a special place in my heart.”

The Spotlight 2 actress didn’t take any formal training in anchoring. “In my early modelling days, I was offered to host a sangeet event and I was like why not. I remember taking my mom along with me. Since then there is no looking back. But it does require some different skills, most important is that you have to be impromptu, unlike acting where a script is given. There are no retakes in anchoring,” she said. Over the years, she has learnt that it’s very important to be patient and not rush through things when she is speaking on stage. “Sometimes people end up having deadlines and they have to cover a certain topic in the duration that is provided, so they have to make sure that what they are trying to convey, the audience is able to grasp it.

“Prepare pointers and do your homework for the event you are hosting. Always have backup content so you can use it if need be. Be calm and always smile on,” she suggested. Talking about her favourite anchor on TV, she shared, “Since the time I was a kid I used to really look up to Vishal Malhotra and never missed any of his shows on Disney. I have really admired Ambika Anand. I have grown up watching her on NDTV Good Times. I wanted to do what she did. I wanted to travel and do shows like she did. And some way or the other, I am doing that.
Apart from them, I really admire Ellen DeGeneres, Jimmy Fallon, Maniesh Paul and Raghav Juyal.”

“I wish they normalise that it’s okay to dress down sometimes or just be yourself,” she added.

The young actress feels that in some way social media too is responsible for this. “As much as social media has helped us all to stay connected there’s always this constant pressure that you can’t upload a picture donning the same look. You have to always be a little conscious about how your look is for the content you upload.”

She further said, “Earlier it was for appearances and shows but now it’s all digital, whether it is for uploading content, brand associations, staying connected to the audiences etc. so it becomes difficult to have a new look every time,” she added.

But she confessed that it’s good that now actors are open about their grooming routine and don’t shy away from talking about it in the public.

“It’s great! I love this change. Why should only women be taking the benefits of self-care? Why should only we bear the pain of waxing, this way men also come to know the lengths we go through to keep ourselves the way we are. But having said that it’s important to take care of ourselves and when actors do it people follow them and that way we are normalising all this and making the world a better place and hopefully judgment-free,” Priyanka stressed.

“For the longest time how we dress up has defined our status symbol which constantly puts pressure on the normal public. People who don’t have the privileges to do so are looked down upon. We are slowly breaking the barriers where some of the richest people are wearing very basic clothing which people are appreciating and following as well. The pandemic has also affected our clothing choices it has taught us to be more considerate towards our preferences. Now it’s about valuing personal comfort above everything else,” she added.

When asked who is the most stylish male and female actor according to her, she said, “Male actors these days are more fearless with the choices they make like Ranveer Singh, Vicky Kaushal, Shahid Kapoor. But the first actor that comes to my mind is Ayushmann Khurrana. The way he carries himself even with the basic outfit like the transition from his gym clothes to suits that’s what makes him stand out. Plus he has a very charming personality and let’s not forget a good voice,” she said.

“As far as female actors are concerned, the first name that comes to my mind is Sonam Kapoor because she is edgy, she’s not afraid to explore with her looks. But, personally I relate to Deepika Padukone’s style. Chic yet quirky and trendy but most of all comfort. You can see some of her latest pictures where she is very casually dressed it looks so effortless and comfortable,” Priyanka concluded.

In this age of social media, it is extremely important to be responsible says Pranitaa Pandit. The Uttaran actor shares that this is more important for celebrities who have a good number of followers, who get influenced by what the celebrity say or do. ‘Social media helps us tell the world who we are as a person. So there’s not much that you can hide’ says Pranitaa Pandit. 

“You have to be responsible about whatever you put out because that does create an impact. I never want to mislead my followers. This isn’t what social media means. We need to influence people towards doing what is right and stay positive,” she says adding that this approach can help in curbing the negativity that’s engulfing social media. Pandit also feels that it’s important to take a stand in what one believes in because otherwise there is no point of having a social media account.

“Social media helps us telling the world who we are as a person. So there’s not much that you can hide. Who you are, what do you believe in, what do you stand for will eventually be seen in one way or the other. So why not use it the right way to help others, put forth your views and spread happiness?” she questions. Acknowledging the importance of social media in an actor’s life, Pandit also refers to the conversations around the biases in the industry that was rampant in the space for quite some time now.

“There are a lot of people who do get exploited but that’s not only in our industry. There are the kind of people who are there everywhere and will try to exploit you but you have to always be wise enough to know what is the right route to follow. For any newcomer, it’s important to do a background check before saying yes to something. Remember, whenever we think of any shortcuts there is some catch in it. Just follow your dream passionately, here things take time to happen. And don’t think everything bad being said about the industry is true. Every place is a mix of good and bad,” she adds. The actor feels these talks are definitely helping at the same time a massive change in the industry has already started to happen after the emergence of OTT.

“A lot of actors are getting to do what they always wanted to do, are playing characters which are very different and real. That more people are getting work is liberating and addresses the biases being discussed about. Now the audience have also become smarter and won’t accept anything that isn’t worthy. This has happened because of our exposure to world content. We all have become matured and receptive,” she explains.

So what interests her in a project? “There is no such criterion except that I want to play substantial roles that are real. If a part clicks with me I take it up irrespective of the length of the role. When I was offered Kavach I said yes within 10 – 15 minutes, because I loved the character, found it quite intriguing. I am quite instinctive that way… And I don’t regret making any decision as far as my profession is concerned. We all makes mistakes and learn from it,” says the actor, known for TV shows like Uttaran, Jamai Raja and Kasautii Zindagi Kay.

Khatija isn’t someone who is very comfortable with posting personal pictures but doesn’t mind doing it at times. “I go through that dilemma all the time as I am quite reserved in that matter. But sometimes, I feel that you have a wonderful audience to cater to and why not just dress up! Pose and post!” she says.

Ask her who she loves to follow on social media, and she says, “I follow a couple of them for a number of different reasons, health, fashion, travels, so I don’t really have a favourite. I feel that social media is a great platform to showcase the great qualities and talent of a new artist and performer. It’s all up to you and what you want to achieve from your audience.”
