Akhilesh Yadav, Student Union Vice President, Allahabad University and National Secretary, NSUI, says, “CSIR examination was canceled after the rigging in NEET and UGC_NET. To divert attention from all these issues, an attempt is being made once again to divert the people of this country from the issue by targeting a top educational institution like JNU. A communal and anti-oppressed film is being released in the name of JNU (Jahangir National University), the purpose of which is to crush the culture and glorious history of Jawaharlal Nehru University JNU. The director of this film is Vinay Sharma; we oppose the film made on the ideology of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. Today, Allahabad University NSUI unit and Joint Student Organization Morcha registered a protest by burning the effigy of the film’s director and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.”

Apart from Prayagraj, the similar opposition can be felt in various cities too. Dialogues like “Godhara wale PM banne ka sapna paale hue hain,” “Afzal hum sharminda hain, tere kaatil Zinda hain,” and “Bharat tere tukde honge, inshallah inshallah” are the point of discussions.

Actors like Urvashi Rautela, Piyush Mishra, Ravi Kishan, Siddharth Bodke, Vijay Raj, Rashmi Desai, Atul Pandey, and Shivjyoti Rajput are part of it, and the film is released in theaters on June 21, 2024, following approval from the censor board.

Sourabh Sharma (Siddharth Bodke) gets admission in prestigious JNU, Jahangir National University which is rife with students politics wherein left wingers have dominance. He protests against their biased thinking but is opposed by the ruling students union which has a support of a few professors at the university including Yuvedita Menon (Rashami Desai). Sourabh along with his mentor Akhilesh Pathak (Kunj Anand) and co-student Richa Sharma (Urvashi Rautela) decides to fight anti- national units at the university. The one-upmanship of both the units and what transpires around it forms the crux of the story.

The film broadly depicts the ideological ‘war’ between two wings and most of the scenes seem to have been taken from the ‘real’ happenings in JNU. The director Vinay Sharma relates the story without any bias and has successfully put forward the views of both the sides. The film could have been better in technical departments. Though cinematography is good and music helps the narration. Siddharth Bodke steals the show with his powerful display of emotions and his body language too supports his character. Urvashi Rautela looks beautiful but has a limited screen time. She is passable. Vijay Raj and Ravi Kishan extract laughter even in miniscule screen time. Rashami Desai does justice to her gray shaded character. Jennifer Paccinato as Nyra does a good job. She looks ravishing on screen and has done justice to her London returned character. Others lend good support.

JNU, Jahangir National University, is a political drama-thriller movie which throws light on the ongoing activities, national and anti national, in an University campus.

Without revealing much, all I would say is that my role in this film is going to be very different from what people have seen me play in the past. As an actor, it’s challenging roles that get the best out of you and that’s how I like to go about with my roles. I have done my bit. Now fingers crossed and I am confident that the audience will love what they get to see of me in the movie. Thank you everyone for all the love.”

On 8th May 2023, producer and director of the multi-lingual Ilaiyaraaja musical Music School hosted a special screening at the Convention Centre of JNU for the students and faculty of the university, before the release of the film in theatres on 12th May 2023.

Receiving a roaring response from the audience with standing ovations and rounds of applause, the screening not only witnessed audience from JNU but students and teachers from Noida, Gurgaon and other parts including Delhi University attended the preview of the film. In an over packed auditorium with the usual capacity of 375, the screening witnessed an attendance of over 500, wherein people lined up on the ground in aisles to watch the film.

Expressing his thoughts about the screening, Dr Sagar says, “Usually any topic around education and academics could be uninteresting and mundane, however, Paparao Biyyala has offered an entertaining approach to a serious and pivotal subject with his musical treatment to Music School. Regarded amongst the most intellectual crowds in the nation, the students of JNU are often looked up to for their profound understanding of the society and it’s issues, therefore, receiving the kind of overwhelming response to Music School felt enriching.”

A past alumni and now faculty of JNU, Sandesha Rayappa Gabriyal also offered an insight into the response to the screening, “We feel extremely honoured and special to be amongst the first ones to watch Music School, which is yet to even release. It is a good film, which is very relevant to everyone in the society in the contemporary time. The audience at the screening included students, parents and teachers who are all a segment of the society deeply connected to the story of the film, and especially engineering students in the crowd resonated with the film a lot. My elder daughter is 16, currently studying science in 12th and I personally have been actively pushing her for studies, the film just held a mirror to my face and in fact I myself hugged by two daughters after the film releasing unknowingly how much pressure we have been imposing on our kids.”

Music School is a musical narration of the sensitive and prevailing concern of academic pressure subjected to young students by the society, parents and teachers. Three out of eleven songs in the film are adapted from The Sound of Music, which were woven beautifully in to this Indian Musical.

The grandeur look of the film was captured by ace cinemotographer Kiran Deohans. The cast includes Shriya Saran, Sharman Joshi and Prakash Raj in leading roles in addition to debutant Ozu Barua and Gracy Goswamy in critical roles. Other cast comprises of Benjamin Gilani, Suhasini Mulay, Mona Ambegaonkar , Leela Samson, Bugs Bhargava, Vinay Varma, Sreekanth Iyengar, Vaquar Sheikh, Phani and many other child actors.

Presented by Yamini Films, Hyderabad, this multi-lingual film is shot in Hindi and Telugu, and dubbed in Tamil. It is releasing on 12th May 2023 by PVR in Hindi and Dil Raju in Telugu.

Dr. Sagar has completed his Ph.D. from JNU. He spent his entire childhood in a village named Ballia in Uttar Pradesh. He had to face a lot of struggles in the initial days of his journey. His childhood was spent in misery and difficulties. Sagar first got to work with the then-budding musician, Vipin Patwa.

In 2016, Dr. Sagar’s name was included in the list of top ten lyricists for the song “Titli” sung by Papon by BBC and THE LALLANTOP.

From all the songs, he wrote, the songs which got him much more love, appreciation, and recognition was the rap song, “Bambai Main Ka Ba”, which starred the famous celebrity, “Manoj Bajpayee’ and was directed by Anubhav Sinha. The rap has almost crossed over 10 million views in a year. He has also written a famous song, ‘Sehmi hai Dhadkan’, sung by Atif Aslam, from the movie, ‘Das Dev’, directed by Sudhir Mishra.

Dr. Sagar has written some of the most soothing songs for movies like,”Bollywood Diaries”, “Anaarkali of Aarah”, “Main aur Charles”, “Setters” etc. He has also worked with famous personalities like Sudhir Mishra, Anubhav Sinha, Subhash kapoor, Neeraj Pandey, Ilaiyaraaja, Salim- Sulaiman, Anurag Saikia, Vipin Patwa, Rohit Sharma, Arijit Singh, Jubin Nautiyal, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Kailash Kher, Atif Aslam, Javed Ali, Shreya Ghoshal, Sunidhi Chauhan.
