JOSH Foundation as a social institution has initiated support and guidance to hearing-impaired children for over 16 years. Founders Dr. Jayant Gandhi, an eminent ENT surgeon, and Devangi Dalal, renowned Audiologist and Speech-Language Pathologist, believe that providing state-of-art medical technologies and treatment at right time can help these children will empower them and make them inclusive in our society. At present, the foundation has distributed over 1300+ digital hearing aids.

On 3rd December 2021, on the occasion of World Disability Day, JOSH Foundation collaborated with Mithibai College’s International Intercollegiate Cultural Festival Kshitij and conducted an event keeping in mind this social cause and inclusivity as its prime goal. The event took place at Santokba Sadan Hall in the presence of Dr.Jayant Gandhi, founder of JOSH Foundation and a trustee of SVKM, Devangi Dalal, co-founder of JOSH Foundation, Ms. Rajat Shah from Inventia Healthcare Private Limited. The event witnessed a charged-up start with paying homage to the National Anthem and reciting a prayer to the Almighty. Then, everyone pleasingly enjoyed a few minutes of yoga and meditation sessions. They also conducted a fun-filled origami craft session which outshined the hidden talents of the uniquely abled children. The children were engaged in various games as well as rocked the dance floor with their amazing moves. Cementing the fact of providing support and care, digital hearing aids worth Rs.15,00,000 were donated to 25 hearing-impaired children. This outstretched help was possible by the generous donation made by Inventia Healthcare Private Limited. Keeping a vision of breaking stereotypes of deaf and dumb, the event concluded with blazing cheers for Kshitij fest by hearing-impaired children.

The event came to an end with strong messages from Devangi Dalal, Dr. Jayant Gandhi, and Yashvi Gotecha.

Devangi Dalal preached, “The time has come where we come out of the Covid19 fear and learn the art of overcoming challenges from the hearing-impaired children, who trust their abilities over disabilities.”

Dr. Jayant Gandhi stated a crucial message “Every human is equal and deserves to be treated equally despite the disabilities. They are deaf but not dumb. I believe hearing disability is no longer a disability.”

Yashvi Gotecha, Kshitij Chairperson, “The response we received from this initiative was overwhelming but more importantly heart-warming. With JOSH foundation, we conducted not a social event, rather a celebration; to rejoice and create an inclusive environment for one and all.”

JOSH Foundation and Mithibai Kshitij’s collaboration has always been successful in bringing smiles to these innocent faces. On 27th September 2019, World Deaf Day, Kshitij’19 and JOSH Foundation held a Carnival for Children with Hearing Impairment. This event was graced by the ever humorous Johnny Lever, and the charming Rohit Roy where they interacted with these children, giving them the time of their lives and rising a new ray of hope in them.

It is a treat to wait and watch how every year JOSH Foundation and Mithibai Kshitij festival comes up with new ideas and concepts to create awareness about hearing disability and work on a path to empower these children with ability.

The Chief Guest of the event was Music Composer duo Sachin – Jigar who came on stage to encourage the underprivileged hearing-impaired kids. The duo also spoke about the great work and contribution of Devangi Dalal and Dr. Jayant Gandhi towards hearing-impaired children in society. The event was also attended by many dignitaries and corporate bodies. Mahaveer Chakra winner Captain Nath was also present at the event to encourage and extend his support for these hearing-impaired kids. A simple, yet the resounding message was resonated with the audience, and that was that no matter what stigma the society might have against the hearing impaired children, they aren’t any different from other kids. They deserve all the love, care, support and privilege that every other kid is entitled to. They also spearheaded a campaign to make digitize every school for the hearing impaired, because there’s no reason as to why they should still study in an old infrastructure when the entire world is moving away from it.

Another important purpose of this event was to focus on early action that can prevent a life long impairment, and thus, the audience was enlightened with the information that after birth when a child moves out of hospital OAE test should be done to check his/her hearing. To put their message out in the open for audience, the hearing-impaired children, along with their normal counterparts danced their hearts out, also sung the song “Hum Honge Kamyab”, a song that replicated their feelings that they are no different from other children. Devangi Dalal, the co-founder of JOSH Foundation, joined them on stage to support and encourage them. The evening ended with the felicitation of Senior musician Suraj Sathe by Dr. Jayant Gandhi and Sachin-Jigar.
