Talking about her preferred winter holiday destinations, she adds, “I love Turkey for its rich history and unique culture, it is like having the flavour of the Middle East with a touch of Europe. In fact, I choose projects in exotic locations so after the completion of our work I can roam around. I also love Manali, because it’s beautiful and adventurous.”

And what does she enjoy eating during this season? “It has to be nolen gur er rosogolla, which is jaggery rasogolla. It’s a popular Bengali sweet that is only available during winters,” she smiles.

“Pros, I would say, are the love, recognition from the people and cons are movie actors are an easy target for criticism and insult on social media, and even otherwise,” she says.

As an actor, Joyita feels special to have been able to choose the profession she wanted to. “I never expected anything, I have worked hard and lived my dreams and things clicked for me. That’s more than. There have been many good points so far that have enlightened my journey so far. All of them were learning experiences for me, but Class of 2020 was the most influential that has happened to my career I guess,” she adds.

Next, Joyita wants to do more movies, especially in Bollywood. “I’m satisfied with my career, and I believe in talent and hard work, and the rest depends on your luck that you can’t control. In fact, we can’t control everything and whatever I have achieved I think that was my destiny. I would just hope that my fans keep on loving me. I am thankful for your support for all these years,” says the actor.

“When I started seeing his videos, I realised that the guy had a different kind of simplicity. Even though he has achieved so much in life, his feet are still on the ground. He doesn’t fake an accent and makes use of the wrong English. He accepts the way he is and I love how he treats women. I have seen female fans falling for him and I see the way he just joins hands and very sweetly gets away. In today’s day and age where sex is so easily available and things are so out there, a guy like Neeraj made my heart melt. She likes everything about the athlete. “He is so different that it just draws me towards him. I feel there is a magnetic kind of attraction. It just pulls me towards him. I have found so many videos of his fan clubs on Instagram where he is doing desi dance at someone’s wedding. He has made India proud and that is one aspect that we should not forget. There are so many celebrities that follow him and he doesn’t follow so many of them back and I am like, ‘I love this attitude’,” she said.

“I have decided that I will not go out with an actor because I want to live a simple life, and Neeraj has all the traits of an ideal guy,” she added.

She hasn’t thought what she would do if she gets to meet him. “I don’t know when he will be in front of me. I might just get nervous. I have no idea. I have no idea what the hell I am going to do, so I just don’t want to think. Let that day come in my life,” she said.

She grew up watching Yash Raj and Dharma movies and being a ’90s kid, she loves old-school romance.

“I would still prefer a handwritten letter or a note over a text or something fancy. Those emotions can’t be replaced and today there is a dearth of such kind of men. It’s more of an emotion than the materialistic aspect, and I find that cute and romantic,” she said.

Her take on dating is something that a lot of millennials and Gen-Z would not relate to.

“I personally believe that if you truly love a person then you should date and get to know and eventually get married. However, in today’s day and age, they have changed the concept of dating into friends with benefits and so on which I don’t understand. For me, dating is more of a first step towards your relationship where two people who are interested in each other get to know each other and figure out if they have a future together or not,” she said.

Falling in love is something which just happens, she feels. “I fell in love with people whom I haven’t dated, but I have liked them because I have observed their actions. It’s not necessary that you need to date to fall in love. It just happens. If you think and evaluate and then call it love then you might as well say, woh pyaar me sauda nhi toh vo sauda ho jata hai. Love is pure love and can’t be forced,” she said.

“People look up to us so, when we do support something automatically it gets attention, which I think is very healthy and productive. And doing something worthwhile is definitely satisfying. It makes you feel a part of a process that is moving towards bringing about some positive change. Moreover, it makes you feel closer to your fans because of who you are,” adds Joyita, who extended her helping hand to those who needed support during the pandemic last year. Even this year, she is doing her bit “as much as possible in myriad ways”.

“Being a celebrity, it’s definitely quite a big responsibility to carry ourselves and express our views in a very thoughtful way and we should take this matter very seriously. It’s because of them we are here and it’s our responsibility not to portray anything in such a way that if they emulate us, it creates any negative influence on the society,” she said.

She feels that to a great extent people are getting obsessed regarding the number of followers on social media. “I personally believe that instead of focusing on dynamic figures, it’s better to stay focused on your work and keep on improving it. Your work should be your obsession and not the number of followers,” she shared.

The world of social media is fake, everyone says so, but at the same time, everyone wants attention on social media. Asked if it is double standard, she said, “I think it’s how you perceive of it. Everyone wants attention and that’s a human instinct. But how you present yourself on a social media platform is the most important thing because faking won’t make you persist in the long run.”

According to her, actors are there to entertain people. “And when an entertainer is on a social media platform and people are following you and investing their valuable time on us by watching our movies shows or any kind of post on a social media platform, it’s really important for us to keep up our good work. But that shouldn’t be a matter of ego massaging tool because if you get carried away by this ego then you can never shine and spread positivity and happiness around you.”

For her, trollers are those who are always there to criticize.

“I am a human being so obviously I would get affected by those negative comments and trolls if they happen. When it comes to dealing with them, I try to present myself in such a way that it looks decent and not over the top. Even if some trollers come up with their pinching comments, I try not to get carried away by negativity and keep myself determined and motivated because in the end, it’s only you who should matter to you, nobody else.”

“I did MBA because I had an interest in it, so if not acting I would have been in the corporate world. But as far as backup plans are concerned, sooner or later everyone does have a backup plan, especially in today’s time because the situations have become so much more dynamic. I think it’s really appreciable if anybody keeps a backup plan for themselves and keeps exploring,” she said.

Joyita was born and brought up in the steel city of Durgapur in West Bengal. “My father was a government officer and he also owned a business. My mother is a homemaker. I have a brother who is two years younger than me,” she said.

She recalls her childhood to be quite joyful and full of beautiful memories. “Being a kid I really liked to visit my grandparents’ home and I along with my brother and other cousins used to have so much fun, especially during the Durga pujo, the greatest festival of Bengal. I used to wait eagerly for my summer and puja vacations because it was the time where there was no stress of studies and we could do whatever fun activities we wanted to,” she said.

She was very close to her grandfather and his demise was a big shock for her when she was a kid. “I still remember he used to take me out everyday with him whenever I visited his place and ended up giving surprises. Last year I lost my father. So that grief is still there. Now my mom is staying with my brother in Kolkata,” she said.

Fondness for acting has always been there in her. “Actually my mother… even today fondly remembers some of the things that I used to do as a child. I did what a lot of girls do — take my mother’s lipsticks, powder, bindis, and dupattas, pretend to wear a sari, and behave like a diva. Even I used to take part in dramas in school. So over time, my inclination towards acting went on increasing day-by-day and when I was about to finish my graduation I had made up my mind that I would become an actor,” she said.

Since she was born and brought up in an upper-middle-class family, the concern was about getting her post-graduation complete and having a 9 to 5 job. “But I had different plans in my mind. When I spoke to them about pursuing acting as my profession they didn’t welcome my decision wholeheartedly. But I must say my mother has been my biggest support since then. It’s because of her efforts that I am here today,” she said.

When she was in college, that was the first time she faced the camera. “I used to work as a newsreader for a local TV channel on a part-time basis. I must say it helped me a lot to nurture and improve my skills,” she said.

When she is not shooting, she loves to be herself at the comfort of her home. “I just spend my day sleeping, watching TV shows, having some good food and also doing my workouts. Sometimes I catch up with my friends,” she said.

When it comes to fitness, she has to be very particular about her workout and diet. “I am a foodie, but I don’t get away with whatever I eat. My fitness regime includes a considerable amount of cardio and weight training. I also go for dance classes which help to keep my mental health and physical health well. When it comes to diet, I start my day with lukewarm water and then a cup of black coffee. Though I have a sweet tooth, I try to avoid refined sugar and any kind of processed and refined food. In short, I believe in eating and staying healthy,” she said.

According to her, loving herself and being herself is her idea of perfect happiness. “Life is very dynamic. It always doesn’t go the way we plan. So I think acceptance is a key to keeping yourself contained and calm. But one more thing I would like to add here is that spending quality time with your loved ones and doing what you love can really complete the definition of perfect happiness,” she said.

As for inspirations in life, she shared, “My greatest inspirations are Ratan Tata and APJ Abdul Kalam because what I learned from them is their positive approach and thought process towards every aspect of life which really keep me motivated, determined and encouraged. To be a good human being should be the mantra of anyone’s life. Only then we can make the world a better place to live in.”
