‘Kaatelal & Sons’ actors Megha Chakraborty and Ankit Mohan spill secrets about each other!

Megha Chakraborty and Ankit Mohan, our very own Garima and Vikram from Sony SAB’s Kaatelal & Sons share their journey of the irreplaceable bond they share in such a short period. From giving their fans the glimpse of their behind the scenes fun to coordinating and attracting their audience with their on-screen chemistry, Ankit and Megha have turned all the eyes on them. Here is how they spilled a series of secrets about each other:

Ankit Mohan, sharing his experience with Megha, said, “Working with Megha is effortless and the rapport we share is wonderful. She is a very dedicated actor and knows the show’s importance and the scene she is enacting. Her elegance while speaking Bengali off-screen makes me adore her cuteness but her strong portrayal of Haryanvi girl Garima steals the show. I feel blessed to have her as my co-actor. In the last three months, we have made wonderful memories that we will surely cherish throughout our lives.”

Megha talking about her bond with Ankit said, “Ankit and I share a very comfortable and friendly rapport, be it on-screen or off-screen. We love shooting together and have become very good friends in these three months from mock test of Kaatelal & Sons till today. He brings a positive energy along while shooting and I personally love that about him. His caring nature towards everyone on the sets during lunch or break hours is something I adore. Ankit sometimes even cooks food for us and we enjoy it over our never ending conversations.”

Ankit while confessing that he is the real prankster on the sets, he said, “Megha knows nothing about pranks I play on the sets since I have never pulled a prank on her. I usually prank Jiya on the sets because she always gets into a fun fight with me. So, I also tend to get back to her by pranking her occasionally on the sets. Be it pasting paper on her bag, which has something funny written or knocking her door and running from there. It is fun being on the sets and teasing both Jiya and Megha .”

Talking about each other’s first impression, Megha revealed “I thought of Ankit to be a serious and calm actor when I first met him during the mock shoot. So, I tried to make him comfortable and he also did the same for me, after which I got to know that he is exactly the opposite of what I thought him to be. He is a full-on dhamaka and the typical Ranveer Singh of Kaatelal & Sons team. Whenever he is not there for the shoot, everybody misses him as he brings an entirely different vibe on sets. He is so friendly and co-operative that it is really smooth working with him and I share the utmost comfort level with him now. Talking about our on-screen chemistry which is between Garima and Vikram, the duo is not so close yet. They have few misunderstandings and cute nok-jhok.”

Adding further Ankit revealed, “When I first met Megha during the mock shoot, I was stunned to look at this cute little girl and her sincerity towards scenes and acting because she understood and handled my energy very well. Also, she is always open to my comments and takes it very organically, even though it is about making some improvisations, she accepts it in a positive manner. Megha and I are similar on some grounds and that is the reason behind our comfort and bond. We have loads of memory with each other, but the latest one is that she wasn’t able to find her phone few days ago and I told her to make a knot in her dupatta as I had seen my mom do it whenever she couldn’t find anything which is important to her, so Megha did the same. She did find her phone back but the knot in her dupatta left a beautiful memory for both of us. So, I really feel she is one of the best actors that I have worked with, a humble person and a co-operative actor.”

More rib-tickling moments in ‘Kaatelal & Sons’!

An exciting plot twist awaits for the viewers and fans of Kaatelal & Sons. Sony SAB’s inspirational dramedy will take the viewers on the roller coaster ride with Susheela (Jiya Shankar) and Garima’s (Megha Chakraborty) marriage fiasco. The show’s upcoming episodes will witness Dharampal announcing Garima and Susheela’s marriage with none other than – Gunnu and Sattu. Kaatelal & Sons continues to entertain the viewers with a highly engaging storyline and bringing in rib-tickling moments that are bound to make you laugh.

Garima and Susheela are seen by Dharampal’s sworn enemy, Jagat (Deepak Tokas) while riding a bike with Gunnu and Sattu at several occasions. To tarnish Dharampal’s image, Jagat plasters the town with Garima and Susheela’s pictures with Gunnu and Sattu and insults Dharampal for his daughters’ affair with the boys who run his salon. Dharampal, furious after learning this information about his daughters, puts them on house arrest while declaring that both the sisters will soon be married to none other than Gunnu and Sattu.

Livid and anxious with the seemingly absurd turn of events, both Garima and Susheela try to convince their father of their innocence but all the efforts lie futile in front of Dharampal. He calls for Gunnu and Sattu to finalize the marriage. Taking this as an opportunity to get out of the marriage, Gunnu and Sattu refuse to marry Garima and Susheela only to be showered with Dharmapal’s wrath. Dharampal threatens them to throw out of the salon, where Gunnu and Sattu are left with no choice but to agree for the marriage.

Megha Chakraborty, essaying Garima’s role, said, “Garima and Susheela have landed in a soup. Their concerns are not only to be married without their consent but to be married to their disguise. It was hilarious when I read the script and I was certain it would be enjoyable to shoot this. Jiya and I thoroughly enjoyed these episodes and laughed a lot during the shoot. I am sure our viewers are going to enjoy this as it promises, fun and madness. So stay tuned, to watch Garima and Susheela escape their marriage with themselves.”

Jiya Shankar, essaying the role of Susheela said, “Susheela is not a girl who even thinks or dreams of getting married. Her aspirations in life are different and right now, it is only to run Kaatelal & Sons successfully. While juggling the madness of changing their disguise every now and then, Susheela and Garima have landed in a situation where they need to marry themselves. My character Susheela will be seen getting furious about the situation but at the same time, the sisters are in a fix as they desperately try to find a solution to their unique problem. Excitement, fun, laughter and madness awaits for our viewers, so stay tuned.”

Unique and exciting experience for Kaatelal & Sons’ Megha Chakraborty and Jiya Shankar.

Sony SAB’s path-breaking, light-hearted show Kaatelal & Sons is motivating story of two sisters, Garima (Megha Chakraborty) and Susheela (Jiya Shankar) who challenge societal norms and face hardships head-on, the show is about stereotyped gender roles which are deeply rooted in peoples’ mindsets in our society. The lead actresses of Kaatelal & Sons were recently seen disguising as boys, Gunnu and Sattu. Unlike other look transformation, Megha and Jiya’s look change was rather unique and exciting experience in itself. The duo detail their experience of the transformation into Gunnu and Sattu from Garima and Shushila respectively and what all it takes for them to don this new look.

Talking about the their own reaction to this new look as a boy, Megha shared, “I was surprised because I used to think that the male look will not suit me, but when I saw myself into the mirror, I observed a huge transformation in myself, my face and even body language. I was thrilled to see witness myself look convincing as a boy.” Jiya added, “It was really nice. I knew I would look smart and good dressed as a boy. While my family and fans loved this new look, my friends on the other hand pulled my leg.”

A lot goes on while transforming into an entirely new character. Megha and Jiya narrate their experience of transforming into their boy disguise while taking us through the minute details. Megha shared, “I think the look is fascinating and also the most comfortable. We both are wearing baggy jeans and shirt with some accessories as well. I feel the trickiest bit is the wig and the entire process of covering up our natural hair to put the wig on. Additionally, we also put on side burns. Since the wig needs to be tightly fit, the clip does hurt by the end of the day but the overall experience makes it satisfactory.”

Jiya on the other hand had a different take, “I love the look and somehow the wig doesn’t bother me so much. It takes about 15-20 minutes for me to get into this look. What I like about this look is the attention to details, from our foundation colours to the choice of accessories and our ripped jeans. Gunnu and Sattu have the true essence of Rohtak. Also, the most comforting part about the look is wearing sports shoots throughout the day.”

While the look transformation was only the first step for the ladies, the real struggle was the voice modulation and ensuring they deliver the dialogues in a male tone flawlessly. Megha reveals, “Getting into the look was still easier but speaking as a boy and maintaining that throughout along with a stead body language was the most difficult part about this transformation.” Jiya further added, “I struggled a lot during the first week of our transformation. While we have to change our voice, we also need to ensure the Haryanvi accent. So sometimes, I used to keep forgetting either the voice or the accent. It is definitely getting better with time.”

The duo concluded by saying, “This is something new we are trying and while our fans and viewers are supporting us and appreciating Kaatelal & Sons, we hope they love this new look and twist in the show and continue to get inspired from Gunnu and Sattu too.”

Megha Chakraborty feels that her show ‘Kaatelal & Sons‘ inspires people to keep dreaming and take a step to achieve them!

Sony SAB’s Kaatelal & Sons has already become a favourite show of the viewers. It’s unique concept and presentation is talked about. The actors too are presenting fabulous portrayals and the message the serial throws is liked by many. Kaatelal & Sons‘ leading actor Megha Chakraborty spoke to Cine Buster and here’s what she has to say about the show and other things.

The concept of the show ‘Kaatelal & Sons‘ is very motivating. Please share something more about it.
The show highlights the existing stereotype of gender roles that is deep rooted in people’s mind in our society. Kaatelal & Sons is our take of addressing the fact that there is no task or career that women cannot excel at and that dreams do not have any gender. Just like Garima and Susheela, who despite their father’s beliefs that women can’t be hairdressers and run a men’s salon, they prove their capabilities and stand by their ambition to run the salon and support the family.

What made you accept this show? How does it feel to be associated with Sony SAB?
The biggest reason for accepting Kaatelal & Sons was the fact that I got an opportunity to do something new. It is really different from the usual daily soap drama. This show and character was also challenging for me since I had to learn several things to ace the character of Garima. Kaatelal & Sons is bringing really strong characters and their journey to protect their salon by even disguising as boys. The character is intelligent and unafraid to challenge stereotypes and this excited me as an artiste. Associating with Sony SAB for a show as inspiring as Kaatelal & Sons has been great so far and I am sure audiences will love this show!

What is special about Garima? Please share something about your character.
Garima is ‘papa ki pari’. She is bubbly, intelligent and the more responsible daughter among the two. According to Dharampal Thakur, Garima and Susheela’s father, Garima listens and abides to his wishes. She handles every situation calmly and knows her way out of a sticky situation. Garima doesn’t believe in using her anger to navigate through problems, instead talks her way out of any situations. She is understanding and believes in handling any situation with care and intelligence. Garima is calm and composed as compared to her hot-headed sister Susheela.

What are your thoughts on the phrase- ‘Sapno ka koi gender nahi hota’?
I loved this statement when I read the script and I feel it’s truly inspiring. Kaatelal & Sons brings about a question – should our pursuits and dreams in life should ever be restricted by gender? Like for example, a woman can be an ace barber, while a man can don the chef’s hat and prepare a lavish meal for the entire household. I hope our show inspires people to keep dreaming and take a step to achieve them.

What was your dream while growing up? Was your family supportive?
I always wanted to dance and become a dancer. I am a trained Kathak dancer but I couldn’t complete it while focusing on studies growing up. I never really dreamt of becoming an actor but when I tried my hands at acting for the first time which led to towards this path of becoming an actor, my family supported me immensely. If they wouldn’t have supported me, I probably wouldn’t have been in Mumbai. They supported me since day one and without thinking that I won’t be able to do things by myself in Mumbai. They put their faith in me through all my endeavors in life.

Do you relate to your character- Garima?
Yes, on many levels. Garima just like me believes in sorting any situation through a good conversation. I feel any problem can be solved if people just communicate calmly. I am also equally bubbly and talkative like Garima. One characteristic in which I completely differ from Garima is that she loves to dress up. I prefer a look that is neutral and natural. The character Garima has given me my several firsts as an artiste.

Did you have to work on your dialect? How difficult or easy was that?
Acing the dialect was the most difficult part about the show. This is my 5th show which and the previous shows I did were mostly in Hindi or UP-based. So, I didn’t face any problems. I struggled with Hindi initially but as I got a good grasp on the language eventually, now I am struggling to ace the Haryanvi accent. Being a Bengali, while I need to keep my Hindi in check, I also need to incorporate the Haryanvi essence to it which has proven to be quite challenging.

How has the experience been, shooting for Kaatelal & Sons? Any message for the viewers?
The experience has been really refreshing for me. I am doing a show after a year and I am simply loving it. I am really glad that my character has a unique look and my fans and friends will get to see me in a never seen before avatar. I will be seen portraying a character which no one thought I’d portray. I am enjoying the work as I am learning each day.

I want to urge all my fans and viewers to enjoy the upcoming festive season and shower us with their love and support as we are set to launch on 16th November with a beautiful story which is bound to entertain them and share a sweet message.

Sony SAB challenges gender stereotypes in ‘Kaatelal & Sons’

Sony SAB has been successfully bringing to the fore unique values-driven, positive and progressive content that not only entertains but also inspire audiences. Taking this ideology forward, Sony SAB has unveiled a new campaign around the thought, ‘Sapno Ka Koi Gender Nahi Hota’ for its upcoming show Kaatelal & Sons. The campaign also features a video that challenges deep rooted gender stereotypes with a message ‘Khol Dimaag Ka Shutter’. The music video, starring show’s protagonists Jiya Shankar and Megha Chakraborty, is set to a foot-tapping number composed by Mayur Jumani who also features in it. Mayur Jumani is a popular music producer who has composed, mixed and produced for a range of projects and is also the man behind several viral mashups. The catchy lyrics of “Khol Dimaag Ka Shutter” take a cheeky spin to question clichéd notions of gender biases in careers and job roles.

Inspired by a real story, Kaatelal & Sons will narrate a heartening tale about ‘un-gendering’ your dreams. It brings forth the story of two sisters, Garima (Megha Chakraborty) and Susheela (Jia Shankar), who take on their father’s business of running a local men’s hair salon in Rohtak when adversity strikes. While their father, Dharampal, (Ashok Lokhande) believes that his ancestral shop, aptly named ‘Kaatelal & Sons’, cannot be passed on to his daughters since girls are not meant to pursue such a profession, the daughters are adamant on keeping the shop in the family and taking the business to new heights.

The campaign will see a 360-degree integrated marketing outreach through print, digital, outdoor, a strategic promotional plan with Paytm and Big Bazaar. A strong digital plan is in place to promote the show and a focused influencer outreach to spotlight the innovative music video – Khol Dimaag Ka Shutter.
