The ambitious project was announced at a grand event in Mumbai where a 50 feet cut-out along with the film’s introductory video was unveiled at a packed venue with an excited audience. Adivi Sesh who delivered some of 2022’s finest films including Major and HIT2 attended the event and introduced the media to the vision of G2.

While ‘Goodachari’ was a massive hit down south, owing to its popularity and by public demand G2 (Goodachari 2) will be made for a Pan-India audience. This time around the sequel will be shot internationally on an elaborate scale including 3 countries in Europe, one in the Middle East, and on hometurf in Delhi, Hyderabad and Pondicherry. The film will pick up where it left off in the Alps, with a slew of new characters joining the existing star cast.

Says Adivi Sesh, “Goodchari 2 is an epic action film visualized by our brilliant director Vinay Kumar Sirigineedi. Honestly, we envision this to be massive, fitting for a Pan-India audience. The film goes on floors this year and we can’t wait to bring audiences something they will truly remember.”

#AnupamKher has had an amazing 2022 with three box office successes to his name, #TheKashmirFiles, #Karthikeya2 and #Uunchai. The whole nation has applauded his prowess on the big screen and his capability to pull in the audience even in these tumultuous times. Even folks from the industry have lauded his run at the box office this year and joining that list is now renowned singer #AnupJalota.

Recently, Jalota held an intimate gathering at his residence to celebrate him being honoured at the Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards. During the get together, renowned ghazal singer Talat Aziz was also present and he shared the stage with Kher and sang Daddy’s Aaaina Mujhse Meri Pehli Si Soorat Maange in his praise.

I strongly feel that ‘Saaransh’ is Anupamji’s best work so far and it’s such a good film that you can start watching it from any point but you will definitely watch it till the end.”

Jalota went on to sing praises of Kher’s prowess as an actor and how he has the innate ability to become the character himself. An overwhelmed Kher replied by saying that sharing stage and humming a few lines with stalwarts like Aziz and Jalota was nothing short of a Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for him.

The three stalwarts were also accompanied by some more mavericks of the Indian music industry including Madhushree, Shailendra Singh, Dr. Soma Ghosh, Jaspinder Narula, Sanjay Tandon, Usha Timothy, Vivek Prakash, Robvy Badal, Shubhankar Ghosh, Nitin Mukesh and Sameer Date, amongst others. Jalota also added that post getting the Padma Shri for his music, this award was for his natak, acting and producing films.

As for Kher, he is all set to carry on the momentum from 2022 to next year with some interesting projects in the pipeline, including Emergency, Kuch Khattaa Ho Jaay, Kaagaz 2 and a reunion with filmmaker Neeraj Pandey, amongst many other projects.

The film was an instant hit with audiences. What about the movie do you believe contributed to its commercial success beyond all expectations?
There is no one who has not been moved by the glory of Sri Krishna. Karthikeya 2 builds on this very essence and takes audiences on an adventure of a lifetime. My character gets entangled in a life-altering quest unravelling the biggest rahasya and I’m excited to take the audience of Zee Cinema on this adventure. All of us at some point in our lives, have turned to God to overcome tough times. Here, in the film, we witness something similar, which made the film all the more relatable. I truly believe that the story has the power of Shri Krishna.

I think this is why the film became increasingly successful – through word of mouth. What we thought would be a restricted release, continued to be shown in theatres even after 50 days. That is significant and we owe a huge debt of gratitude to everyone who saw our movie and showed support.

Why do you believe mythology is such a popular genre in our country? Given the level of responsibility, how did you prepare for the part and the film in general?
It is impossible for anyone born in India to not know about the country’s rich culture and epics. I have grown up listening to these epic sagas, especially from my father. The curiosity of those tales is what made me take on this project. It is this curiosity and relatability that makes the genre so popular, because we have all grown up hearing tales from our parents or grandparents and have grown up to take immense pride in these stories.

For Karthikeya 2, I tried to invest my time in research and groundwork. Unfortunately, I lost my father during the shoot of this film which made this journey rather emotionally difficult for me but he was fully involved in my research process, even saw a couple of raw cuts from the film as well, and loved every bit of it. So, this film became like an ode to him.

How was your experience working with Anupam Kher?
Everything about this film was a life-changing experience for me. The process challenged me as an actor and allowed me to reach a much wider audience. To top it all, a chance to work with Anupam Kher sir was truly awe-spiring. He was so invested in the script and the story that the film really came alive. The kind of aura he brought in during the shoot was so contagious that we all immersed ourselves fully into the process.

Despite competition from big-ticket Bollywood entertainers like Laal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan, the Hindi version of Karthikeya 2 managed to carve a niche for itself owing to the great reviews and positive word of mouth. With 1.10 crore on Day 3, the film saw a whopping 300% figure jump on its third day, a rare occurrence for new movie releases!

If that wasn’t all, with several shows running housefull, the screen count for Karthikeya 2 continued to rise with every passing day. Having started off with a mere 50 shows on its opening day in Hindi belts, the reception and occupancy the film received increased its demand to 1500+ shows by Tuesday. A perfect example of how content is ruling cinemas, the film’s Hindi version saw remarkable growth minting 1.45 cr in 3 Days.

On Tues, the film has garnered 3.85 cr, surpassing Laal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan.

Apart from being widely loved by audiences across the country, Karthikeya 2 was also praised by critics who described the film as an ‘adventure ride’ and an ‘engaging adventure’, one that offered great content and was equally a visual treat. Many cinema halls are also now deciding to replace the shows for big ticket Bollywood films with Karthikeya 2 owing to the overwhelming reception the film is receiving.

The movie opens in Greece where an archeologist from India finds a reference which dates back to Lord Krishna’s times. His life is in danger because a sophisticated gangster (Adithya Menon) wants that secret because he doesn’t want humanity to prosper. An animated backstory explains the story of an anklet belonging to Lord Krishna which is being chased by the antagonist. Away in Hyderabad, a young doctor, Karthikeya, (Nikhil Siddharth) who loves to charm snakes, backs science over religious practices. Once he slaps the Mayor for performing Havan in an operation room, for which he gets suspended. His mother, one of the most pious persons, takes him to Dwarka for obeisance. His life takes a 360 degrees turn there which takes him to many different places. The archeologist’s grand daughter Mugdha (Anupama Parameswaran) saves him from the clutches of police who were taking orders from the antagonist. After innumerable hurdles and action the film declares it’s third part.

Director Chandoo Mondeti gained a name with Karthikeya tries hard to make a similar impact. The first half is bit shaky but in second half the film holds ground. The story behind Lord Shri Krishna’s anklet and the mystery surrounding a telescope and a metal statue of a peacock brings interesting aspects to the narration. The archaeologist’s granddaughter Mugdha (Anupama Parameswaran) rescues him and they dig deeper into the mysterious incidents that happened. They discover a secret society that protects Lord Krishna’s anklet. Cinematography is excellent and so is production design. Music is not impactful and same goes for background score, which is unnecessarily loud at times.

Nikhil Siddharth scores with his stylised acting but this time around his character is not well etched out. Anupama Parameswaran has enough screen space but less dialogues. She does well in emotional scenes. They are well supported by Srinivasa Reddy and Harsha Chemudu. Anupam Kher makes an impressive appearance as a blind professor.

Karthikeya 2, with it’s technical brilliance and good performances, is a one time watch.
