Adapted from the cult Indian action film Lakadbaggha, the graphic novel marks the first chapter in a bold new storytelling universe — one that introduces the world’s first animal-lover vigilante superhero. Blending sharp social commentary with a striking visual style, “Lakadbaggha: The Prologue” traces the origin story of its mysterious protagonist who protects the voiceless — one paw at a time.

“My love for bikes goes back to my college days. I was not given any bikes or rather I wasn’t allowed to go for any bike rides because my grandmother was against it. Though my father had a scooter, he wasn’t enthused to buy me a two wheeler. I was not even given a bicycle. When I had the money I first bought Pulsar 150 CC and then bought a Jawa Classic 300 CC.” People do feel a lot of time bikes are not safe on roads.

He says, “As far as safety is concerned there’s always an insecurity because it is open from all the sides unlike the car where you have a shell and are cocooned. But for bikes it is dangerous whether it is Indian or Foreign roads. I have always been riding through Maharashtra roads till now. Safety is very important- knee caps, safeguards, proper biking shoes, biking gloves and jackets and Helmet are must haves. So we should take our safety first. By Gods grace I haven’t faced anything.”

Speaking on his trips the actor says,”Long distances I haven’t done much because I don’t get enough time and the whole of last year I was working continuously. I have been to Nasik and little bit beyond that and did overnight camping on Patta fort.”

So what’s your dream mean machine?
“I would never want to sell off my Jawa because that is the legacy itself. But I also want to buy Triumph Bonneville T120. I like bikes with big cowls and they are pretty expensive. Even Harley is nice, Bonneville is 12-13 Lakhs on road.”
He further adds,”Riding is therapeutic for me. It’s my way of channelising my energy in one place. It’s brings discipline and responsibility, determination. Because when you are riding for long hours your body might give up, your fingers, knees, legs, back, butt everything pains a lot. But then we still ride taking stops. Also when it’s summer the heat is tremendous and during the winters the chills get inside the mind. And the fear of skidding. But it’s always a great feeling on the bike.”

Taking to her social media to talk about her first film, Ridhi said, “‘Ridhi it’s your first film, how does it feel ?’ And I always ask myself wow Ridhi how does it feel to be asked this question?! To see myself on the big screen, to hear my voice coming out of those speakers gave me a feeling that still hasn’t sunk in. I am very hard on myself and I take too long to celebrate my victories. From the outside it looks like a victory. For me it’s a push to do more and do better next time. Yet the victory is personal. I guess so is the celebration. I feel blessed. I feel the power of manifestation. I feel like my angels and my soul guides must be celebrating for me right now. Because this journey of mine is only between me and them. I live for experiences. “I’ve worked with Victor Mukherjee a couple of times before for the web series on Zee 5 Babbar Ka Tabbar and Love Lust & Confusion both seasons of both the web shows. He is a good friend, and we have a mutual admiration club. He called me one evening and told me about the film he is making and he wants me to play the cop Saptrishi Mukherjee in this Kolkata based story. So initially, I was apprehensive,” he says.

Only after hearing a brief narration that Saptrishi said yes to the project. “I can never say no to him. Also, this is not my film debut per se, because I have already worked in Aligarh, even though it was a very small role. I was being told something, but it turned out to be something else. I actually started my career with Amrita, way back in 1998-1999. That was technically my first movie. Then I did a Bengali movie, Shotti Ei Toh Jibon, where I played the son of Victor Banerjee and Moushumi Chatterjee. So yes, this is not my debut as such in a Hindi film. But, if you consider it in the terms of a full-fledged role, then yes it’s a debut of sorts,” he adds.

Talking about his role in Lakadbaggha, the actor says that the character did not require much. He did ask the director if a certain kind of body language or a tone is required and accordingly worked on it.

“Victor, in fact, told me that he wants me to keep it as natural as possible. In fact, this cop was slightly different because he’s different. Coincidentally, the name of my character also happens to be Saptrishi (laughs). I even asked Victor why he named him Saptrishi and he said that he couldn’t think of any other name except this. So that’s one thing that made me comfortable,” shares the actor, who is happy to be where he is today and is enjoying his journey.

For those not in the know, Saptrishi is also a voiceover artist, and a successful one at that. However, acting has always been his first love.

Saptrishi thanks his family for their support so far. “My father, who is no longer with us, has always been supportive. I wish he could see my film this time. But then wherever he is, I’m sure he’s blessing me. So, I got a job with Pepsi in Dubai and was supposed to go there when I decided to become an actor and full-fledged voice-over artist. I still remember the long discussion with dad when he told me to follow my heart and gave me his blessings. He also said that I must always remember that I don’t have any godfather. I have to do everything on my own, work hard and work on my talent and depend on my luck. He also wanted me to stay strong and not come back crying if I can’t make it. Thank God I could sail through. I probably would have been a software engineer, because that was my qualification, or maybe a marketing executive and settled in the US or UK by now. But thank God that didn’t happen. I’m very happy being an artist. And when your passion is your profession, there is no looking back. So yes, it’s been a fantastic journey till now, and I’m looking for great times ahead,” he ends.

“#Lakadbaggha” is India’s first ever film about an animal lover vigilante. The makers pull off a strikingly innovative marketing campaign, #ShonkuKahanHai?

There have been posters of a missing dog all over Mumbai. Followed by huge hoardings about a missing dog called ‘Shonku’ which have been catching everyone’s eyes since the beginning of 2023. The passersbys and spectators were encouraged to contact a number and even a reward was promised. The campaign caught the attention of many, and over 2000 callers reached out to find out who Shonku is & were greeted with the trailer of the upcoming film ‘Lakadbaggha’. A select few were even rewarded with tickets to a special screening. Lakadbaggha is a homage to all the animal lovers and is a film that has the central protagonist, Arjun Bakshi played by Anshuman Jha who works tirelessly as a martial arts teacher by the day and a saviour for those who don’t have a voice of their own aka the street dogs. A larger war is waged when an antagonist who is an illegal animal trader comes face to face with Arjun and it’s a fight between humanity and the evil.

The trailer has been trending on Social Media Platforms since it’s release less then 48 hours ago. And this animal lover vigilante film is already the most talked about release in January – courtesy Shonku, a pivotal character in the film.

The marketing spokesperson of the film said, “Anshuman had this idea even before he began shooting for the film & it has really caught everyone’s imagination. It brought attention to concerned and curious citizens who wanted to know who and where Shonku is, the missing dog. The film is a love letter by the makers for animals and their undying love for them”.

The film produced by First Ray Films is set to release on 13th January 2023.

The teaser poster of the Action-Thriller film ‘Lakadbaggha’ is here. The first look of the movie starring – Anshuman Jha, Ridhi Dogra, Paresh Pahuja and Milind Soman – has a pop vibe to it and looks like a hard-hitting film set in Kolkata. The action movie, written by Alok Sharma & directed by Victor Mukherjee, is the first of its kind with the lead character being a vigilante for animals. The film is set to release this Winter.

‘This time a man will prove his loyalty towards his canine friends’ is the theme of the film.

The story is about an ordinary boy on an extraordinary mission – to fight against the illegal animal trade industry. An animal loving vigilante Arjun Bakshi, while trying to protect his adopted Indian stray dogs, unearths the fact that an underground illegal animal trade cell functions from Kolkata port. On investigating he chances upon a rare species of the Indian Striped Hyena (Lakadbaggha) – which has been kidnapped from Corbett National Park & is being sold in the black market.

The motion picture aims to stir up conversations about some sensitive topics like encouraging Indian breed adoption amongst dogs, illegal animal trading, animal poaching & having a voice for our (p)awesome friends.

Anshuman, who leads the film, had put 6 months+ into training in Krav-Maga (Israeli Martial Arts Form) & also went to New York to train under Tsahi Shemesh (Trainer of the Avengers team-Falcon & The Winter Soldier). The actor says being an animal lover himself, the movie is quite close to his heart. “Animals & action films are two of my BIGGEST passions. After playing a gay man in Hum Bhi Akele… I wanted to do something high octane but pure. I have given 12 months + of my life in training+shooting & trying to be authentic towards the ‘Hand-To-Hand’ martial arts form this movie brings to India ‘Krav-Maga’ – its just raw street fight style action. It is an Action Thriller made by a bunch of animal lovers so it’s not JUST an Action film, it has more. I am grateful to the team, especially the stunt team on the film.” says Anshuman.

Ridhi, who has been making waves on TV & the Web, is making her Bollywood debut with the movie. “This film is special at many levels. At the heart of it is the story. Not everyday you see a film that has the good mix of content with masala. This film dwells into the plight of animals and their welfare. That instantly made me want to do it as my bollywood debut. Second thing was the action and the character I got to play. At this point perhaps I can’t say much, but I will say – I definitely wanted to do something different than the characters I’ve played on the web – for a first film and this film and my part in it gave me that experience. The vocals of the new rendition have been done by #ShuchiPathak and and Belgian music maestro Simon Fransquet has recomposed the song.

“It’s a conscious effort to include the works of these masters into the stories we weave today. I feel it’s our responsibility as artists. Tagore is a hero figure for me. And Purano is an absolute favourite & we have got my favourite female voice in Shruti Pathak to sing it. It’s her first #Bengali song.”

Anshuman, who was last seen as a homosexual man in “Hum Bhi Akele, Tum Bhi Akele” opposite Zareen Khan has been training for 4 months in Krav Maga & the film is expected to have raw, street-fight style Action.
