Review : Kusum Ka Biyaah : Lockdown wedding woes!

A few years back the entire world including India became a victim of #Corionavirus. This deadly virus had brought the entire world to standstill and India too adopted lockdown measures to avoid spread of this deathly disease. Of course the common man was the most affected as many of them were poor including daily wage earners. The #lockdown saw postponement of marriages or low attendees wedding. #KusumKaBiyaah is a movie which tells a story, inspired from true incidents, of a wedding which turned out to be nightmare for the ‘Baratis’ including the groom and the bride.

Sunil Munda (Lovenkash Garg) is a resident of Jharkhand who is getting married on Kusum Soren (Sujana Darjee) who stays a few kilometers away in Bihar. Due to the onslaught of pandemic their marriage is postponed to 24th March 2020, on a day total shutdown and lockdown was announced by the Prime Minister of India. Due to curfew, lockdown and social distancing norms the entire ‘Baraat’ gets stranded in Bihar. After a few days they get a permission to leave the place and they all travel on foot on a bridge connecting Bihar and Jharkhand. But they are denied to enter Jharkhand as they do not have a permission letter to enter that state. They go back to Bihar but they are refused entry because they had permission only to exit, but not of entry. The wedding entourage had to spend a few days and nights on the bridge. What transpires during and in between the stay on bridge forms the crux of the story.

Though the story of Kusum Ka Biyaah is inspired by true events, it doesn’t evoke sympathy now as a lot of time has elapsed after lockdown phase. But the writers have underlined the red tapism which impacted the common rural population. It shows the lack of empathy of government servants towards commoners despite the latter providing for former’s paychecks. The direction is straight forward and the director pinpoints quite a few thing through sub text. He has intelligently used the ‘bridge’ as a character right from the first frame. Production values and technical side should have been better. Lovenkash Garg and Sujana Darjee deliver good performances and the entire supporting cast has done a good job.

‘Kusum Ka Biyaah’ deftly comments on societal challenges and bureaucratic intricacies faced by common people during the pandemic and the subsequent lockdown.

Revisiting lockdown period with Amol Kagane presents ‘Lockdown Lagna’, releases March 8!

During the #CoronaVirus infected #pandemic, #lockdown was experienced by all. As it was a very long period a lot of things, sad and funny, happened during the course. A lot of marriages had to be postponed as nobody was allowed to move out of the house. But these delayed marriage took place once the lockdown was relaxed. One such wedding story is being told throug ‘#LockdownLagna’ starring #PraveenTarde. The humorous story of a marriage during the lockdown has now been presented in the film. The poster of the movie ‘Lockdown Lagna’ was recently launched on social media.

Although the corona period was socially challenging, there were many fun parties during this period. Praveen Tarde will be playing a central chatacter in this film and the names of other actors have not been revealed at present. Amol Kagane presented ‘Lockdown Lagna’ is produced by Laxman Kagane, Amol Kagane and Sagar Pathak. Sumit Sanghmitra has directed this film, while Amol Gole has done the cinematography of the film.

From the masks and sanitizers on the poster, it can be seen that the story of the Corona period will be unfolded in the film. Until now, Amol Kagane’s films have produced films like Halal, Bhonga, Lathe Joshi. A lot of films have won many national and international awards. So far, more than 18 films have been produced by Amol Kagane Studio on many vibrant subjects and now they are ready to bring this new story for the viewers. Filmastra Studio will distribute the film across Maharashtra.

‘Lockdown Lagna’ will hit the screens across Maharashtra on March 8th.

Rajkummar Rao praises ILC’s ‘Mumbai cha Mulga’ Nitesh Shetty!

The upcoming weekend episode of #SonyEntertainmentTelevision’s India’s Laughter Champion will be the first episode of the quarter-final and will have #ChetanShashital as the ‘#ComedyKaSarpanch.’ Viewers will be able to see contestants who were directly selected for the quarter-finals previously perform once again in front of the judges #ArchanaPuranSingh and #ShekharSuman. The special guest of the episode will be #RajkummarRao, promoting his film ‘HIT’. Out of the many contestants, #NiteshShetty from Mumbai will be seen doing a flawless observational skit that had the judges laughing hard. From day one he has won numerous hearts, and as usual, he was no less this time around as well.

Nitesh will be seen delivering a lengthy monologue by expertly mimicking people from a variety of backgrounds during the covid period, taking up various observations of people during the #lockdown. He also imitated a group of people who were excited to be married because there would be fewer guests and they wouldn’t have to spend a lot of money.

Rajkummar Rao said, “Your act was amazing, I see an actor in you, the way you change your voice, and the body language you must have been a part of the theatre before.” He also drew a reference from his act where he said that he could relate the act to himself. He lastly, thanked Nitesh for presenting such an amazing act.

Archana Puran Singh showered praises upon Nitesh by saying, “Nitesh, Rajkummar just spoke my words, you truly have a hidden actor in you, even eminent actors are unable to portray such emotions that you have shown in today’s act.” She also mentioned that she loved the way Nitesh pronounced the name #Ramanuj and brought out the emotion was applaudable.

Shekhar Suman said, “Usually performance gets streamlined after a point of time, but for you, it’s just getting better day by day. And the quality of your act is also increasing. I am loving the way you are improving day by day. Keep it up.”

She has taken to gymming, yoga, and Mixed martial arts. Soundarya looks fit as a fiddle and that speaks a lot about the effort she puts in. This girl is absolutely relentless when it comes to staying fit and healthy.

Let’s just hear it from her to see what she has to say, “I am a firm believer in wholesome fitness. It’s something I have invested a lot of time learning and practicing. Even though I put on or lose weight the body functions have to stay the same or get better. Mobility is a huge part. It gives us not just confidence but also longevity. It is important to do it as young as possible. As actors, it’s such a high-performance job. We need to be at a very high level of fitness to do as asked and when asked. Diet is such a huge part and it’s so neglected. One has to put in the right amount and type of fuel for the body to function. We are designed to move and so we should do. Just get that body moving.”

Well, that’s such good advice and yet simple. Let’s get moving wherever we can.

Pratick Chaudharry utilized lockdown time wisely!

During the lockdown, Actor Pratick Chaudharry, says that he made sure to remain optimistic. “Obviously, 2020 was really unexpected for everyone. We were locked up in our homes for the longest time, a lot of us were left with no work and also everyone was scared about the pandemic, but this is life. Life is all about unexpected events, all we can do is fight and survive. Life mein problems aate rahenge, all we should know is how to tackle the situation and be positive. I know saying this is easy and many people have faced a lot of problems, surviving was also very difficult but, at the end, we don’t have any other option rather than facing the problem and staying positive,” he says.

Pratick Chaudharry, who is known for his role of Arjuna in the show Paramavatar Shri Krishna and will soon be seen in the web series Becharey, says that although 2020 has been challenging due to the pandemic, he learnt to utilize his time well. “Nothing was disappointing for me. I took everything in a positive way, and I was more focused on myself. I knew the time we are getting now, we won’t get this ever,” he says, adding, “I spent this time with my family, chilling together, watching movies… I will cherish it forever.”

He learnt a lot as well. “This year has really made all of us pick up the brooms, and mops, clean every corner of the house. But one thing that I did the most during the lockdown was cooking. And guess what? I really enjoyed it. I tried and experimented with many things which turned out to be really good. I cooked for myself and for my family. Even after lockdown, whenever I get time, I make sure to cook something for myself and my family, and try and experiment different cuisines,” he says.

He adds, “The biggest achievement for me this year is that I got to know myself better, in a busy life we don’t get much time for ourselves. But now I know myself a little better. My future plans are always to be better than yesterday, stay focused, work hard and have fun.”

‘I rejuvenated myself during lockdown with a strict detox’, says elated Yesha Rughani

Working during a pandemic is no easy feat, but actor Yesha Rughani, who was last seen in Muskaan, says that all precautions are being taken on the sets of her brand her show Hero Gayab Mode On. Talking about it, she says, “I think new normal has become a lifestyle now. Whether I am going for work or something else, I have to follow precautions. Obviously, you are scared. But on the set, we take many precautions, medical people are there, they check us every day. The makeup and hair stylists are wearing their kits. So, I think overall it’s a secure working environment. I hope everybody stays well and fit.”

The actor is back on the sets after almost a year and is loving it. “We wrapped up Muskaan’s shoot in December last year and this show is launching December. We have started shooting from November so I think almost a year. It just feels too good to be back and I think I have been missing being onscreen. I missed shooting and I am loving the feeling of getting on the makeup chair, the entire routine, listening to action, cut, roll each and every minute detail of shoot life. It’s fabulous to be back,” she says.

In fact, she’s got a lot of appreciation for her look too. “I rejuvenated myself during this break. I got into this healing thing where I was on a strict detox and my skin healed, my hair, my body healed. I was in my comfort zone and used to wake up on time and follow a proper routine, even though there was a lockdown. I had ample time in the lockdown to take care of myself. I am fresh as a flower now and all set to rock again. For the new look, I am getting really good reviews because people are seeing me like this onscreen for the very first time. My first two roles were very different. So, seeing me in a totally different avatar with short hair is exciting. I have really lost weight, there is a different kind of look and feel to the role. I am getting a very good reaction and I am loving it,” she says.

Meanwhile, Yesha started a balloon business too during the lockdown and plans on balancing both her acting and business venture. “Lockdown has, of course, changed our lives in many ways from being able to value things to be grateful to life, self-healing and taking care of yourself, self-discipline. I ventured into a new business. I love to be very busy so I think it wouldn’t be a problem to manage both the things. I have my sister also who is taking care of this business, apart from me. I think it works for us. I also carry my laptop and everything to shoot so that if I get some time, I make some designs and send them across. I think it’s going to be fun to manage both,” she says.

Like everyone else, ever since the lockdown was imposed, Shraddha had been doing her own as well as all the household chores. From cleaning her own dishes after a meal to sweeping and mopping her room, she did all by herself. She loves the fact how much the lockdown taught her to be independent and self sufficient.

The lockdown taught everyone some thing or the other. From connecting with your deep down passion to realizing the power of oneself, it provided for a great learning curve, which made 2020 a rather special year. By the looks of it, even for Shraddha it has been the same, and she seems to have embraced the learnings quite skillfully.

All of this, further proves the fact why Shraddha Kapoor is known to be a relatable actress. Her humble and down-to-earth demeanor has made her a household name throughout the country.

During lockdown ‘IMMJ2’ actor Aashcharya Vikas created 6 short films!

The deadly Covid-19 has taken the entire world by storm and for the last few months, our lives have all been about masks, gloves and sanitisers. Actor Aashcharya Vikas says that shooting in these times is very risky. The actor, who was part of the Mamta and Yash Patnaik’s Ishq Mein Marjawan 2, says that he made sure to take all precautions on the set. “Working in the new normal is bit different as you are always under fear. But yes, all precautions were maintained on the set to ensure that no one gets infected,” he says.

The show started post lockdown and the actor says that he was very confident that it would be watched. “Being stuck at home, people wanted something exciting and IMMJ2 proved itself to be successful. I was very sure of this,” he says.

Ask Aashcharya how he spent the lockdown, and he says, “My lockdown was very productive. I kept myself busy with making shorts movies and was successful in creating 6 short ones!”

Talking about being part of Ishq Mein Marjawan 2, the actor says, “I played the character of Chitvan. It was a very enriching experience to work in the show. Though my role was short but I loved the character as it was comic relief and I feel I was successful in doing so. Thriller shows are always welcomed by audiences. They automatically get attracted towards it and finally attached thanks to the unexpected twists.”

All through 2020 in an era of pandemic, Zee Theatre brought teleplays across multiple genres right into our cozy living rooms. Here is an overview of some of the best offerings.

Sir Sir Sarla : Makrand Deshpande’s much-loved classic, Sir Sir Sarla is the story of Professor Palekar and his student Sarla – the pretty, innocent young girl who seems to be enamoured by her mentor – and Phanidhar who shares a love-hate relationship with the professor. The play explores the bond between the students and their professor, which faces many ebbs and flows. Secrets are revealed, accusations are thrown, and the three lives remain interwoven for many years to come. The teleplay stars Makarand Deshpande, Aahana Kumra, Sanjay Dadhich and Anjum Sharma.

Ladies Sangeet : Radha is to wed her beau Siddharth at her ancestral home in the hinterlands while her enthusiastic family members and their wedding planner are trying to make the wedding resemble like the ones in Bollywood! The play uses wit, humour, music and drama to bring out extremely relevant challenges faced by families and individuals, especially against the backdrop of a big, fat wedding. The play stars Joy Sengupta, Nidhi Singh, Siddhant Karnick, Loveleen Mishra, Harsh Khurana, Sarika Singh, Monica Gupta, Niranjan Iyengar, Mallika Singh and Nivedita Bhargava. It is written and directed by Purva Naresh.

Court Martial : Written by Swadesh Deepak, the play follows the story of a junior ranked army man, Ramchander, who one day, picks up his gun and shoots down his two senior officers. The army now orders a Court Martial against Ramchander, to prove his crime and decide his punishment. The play comprises the proceedings of this Court where the defence lawyer, the extremely sharp Bikas Roy, played by Rajeev Khandelwal, goes deep into the motive behind the assault and exposes the ugly and shocking truth. Also starring Govind Pandey, Bhagwaan Tiwari, Saksham Dayma, Swapnil Kotriwar.

Gudiya Ki Shaadi : The teleplay takes a light-hearted jab at the standards of beauty set by society, especially with regards to women. Shweta Basu Prasad plays the lead role Gudiya – a strong and confident girl who is proud of her skin colour and is seldom affected by the judgemental society, but soon her happy-go-lucky life takes an unusual turn on the most important day of her life – the wedding day. A mix-up in the shampoo leads to Gudiya losing her eyebrows and her sweet Indian wedding turns into a pungent comedy of errors. The teleplay is directed by Sourabh Shrivastava and stars Virendra Saxena, Samta Sagar, Ishtiyaq Khan, Saroj Sharma, Neha Saraf, Vikram Kochhar and Anveshi Jain

Purush : Purush is a social commentary on universal issues of gender politics, patriarchy and caste discrimination. Set in Meerut, UP, in a middle-class Brahmin home, the teleplay creates a layered narrative as the plot explores a number of glaring ideologies that plague men as well as women in an Indian society. In a regressive and unyielding scenario, Ambika not only fights for herself but also stands up for other women who are subjected to injustice or oppression. Her fight against the corrupt and misogynistic Gulab Singh is aided by others like her who never give up and eventually find a way to gain justice. The teleplay stars Paromita Chatterjee, Deepak Qazir, Kranti Prakash Jha and Neha Saraf.

Where Did I leave my Purdah? : Where Did I leave my Purdah? tells the riveting tale of Nazia, a once famous stage diva, who decides to direct a modern adaptation of Shakuntala. The story moves between her past and present revealing hidden angers and former passions. Directed by Sahitya Akademi award winner Mahesh Dattani, the play stars Swara Bhasker, Divya Dutta and Sohaila Kapur in lead roles.

Shivin Narang celebrates lockdown-victim Beyhadh 2’s 1st anniversary!

Actor Shivin Narang is on cloud nine as his it’s been a year since he started shooting for his super successful show Beyhadh 2. He put up a story of the same on his Instagram account. The actor, who shared the screen with actor Jennifer Winget in the show, wrapped up Beyhadh 2 in March this year.

Shivin played the role of Rudra in the thriller, while Jennifer essayed the role of Maya. Beyhadh 2 was one of the most successful projects of Shivin, who has been seen in other shows such as Ek Veer Ki Ardaas… Veera and Internet Wala Love. The show was hugely appreciated for Shivin’s chemistry with Jennifer and the two looked sizzling on-screen. In fact, they also managed to get their very famous hashtag of Mayra when the show was on air. The plot of the show also appealed a lot to the audience. It had a lot of fan following and viewers were literally glued to their screens once the show picked pace.

According to sources, the show went off the air as the channel decided to end it due to the countrywide lockdown.
