The last remaining city, Kasi, is under the tyrannical rule of Commander Manas (Saswata Chatterjee) and governed by the enigmatic God King Supreme Yaskin (Kamal Haasan), who resides in a mysterious fortress known as the Complex where fertile women are executed and men getting enslaved. Bhairava (Prabhas) seems to be a savior of Shambhala. The rebels of Shambhala rescue SUM80 (Deepika Padukone) who is pregnant and is destined to give birth to an avatar who will save the earth from the cluthes of evil forces like Supreme Yaskin. What transpires around it forms the crux of the story.

Writer-director Nag Ashwin employs his creative talent to immerse the audience in a visually breathtaking universe through his storytelling. The first half drags but things pick up in the latter part. Production design is fantabulous but there are flaws in the scripting. Too many situations and too many characters are distracting. The cinematography by Djordje Stojilijkovic is breathtaking. Amitabh Bachchan stands out and one gets a feeling that he is the main lead. Prabhas has done justice to his character but futile attempt to create comedy (writing flaw) should have been avoided.

Deepika Padukone delivers a commendably restrained performance as a character who is destined to gain immense power. Saswata Chatterjee’s portrayal of Commander Manas is loud. Kamal Haasan, once again, excels in a uniquely chilling role. Cameo appearances by Vijay Deverakonda, Mrunal Thakur, Dulquer Salmaan, S.S. Rajamouli, and Ram Gopal Varma, though brief, leave a lasting impression.

“After Albelaa, I have gone on several trips with my family and friends and I have been going through scripts. An actor’s job is to always find something that they are comfortable doing. I have been waiting for the right kind of roles. After every project that’s the hustle that an actor has to do. Now I have gotten a show called Drishti for Atrangii TV and I am playing the titular role of Drishti in it,” she says.

Drishti is a very interesting thriller and I am really looking forward to it because I always wanted to explore the genre on TV. The story is very different from regular shows, she reveals.

“Nivedita Basu ( VP Content and Business Alliance, Atrangii TV and OTT ) is also a part of the channel and I am really looking forward to starting shooting,” she sounds excited.

Reacting to saying no to intimate scenes on screen, she adds, “It’s true that I have said no to a lot of work that included kissing scenes as well as bold scenes. That’s a decision I consciously take because that’s something I don’t want to do and I do not regret letting those projects go. In fact there have been meetings where directors and producers have told me that this is such a good project who are you saving yourself for. Who says no for a kissing scene and stuff like that? I don’t think I need convincing from anybody because it’s my decision and it’s something my heart doesn’t allow it now. I am okay with letting go of the projects.”

Aparna says that one needs to be patient and have faith. “There is some faith inside me where I know that the kind of work I am looking for will definitely fall into my lap. It’s been almost a decade in the industry and I have constantly been working. God has been kind that way. I just need to look for work that I want to do. As an audience, I am not judgmental. A lot of my friends and co-actors are doing intimate scenes and it takes a lot of courage to do it. Acting is my profession and my personality is different. My personality doesn’t allow me to do all these scenes even in the name of my profession. Your profession shouldn’t manipulate the person that you are. I have seen other people doing the same show and I don’t regret saying no to it. When people say things right to your face, like the directors and producers, it gets difficult at that moment, but then it’s my journey and I know how to let go. Your decision shouldn’t be influenced by anyone,” she ends.

Almost every Indian knows about the major happenings in Ramayan but here the writers have taken cinematic liberty to make it more interesting, but fail in that attempt. The narrative immediately goes into the major aspect of Ramayan, i.e. Ram’s exile (Vanvas) and abduction (apaharan) of Sita by Ravan. In fact there are more dramatic happenings in the original which is depicted through animated stills and commentary. Raghav (Prabhas), to honour his father Dasharath’s promise to Kaikeyi chooses to go for Vanvas. Shesh i.e. Laxman (Sunny Singh) and Janaki (Kriti Sanon) accompany him. Ravan’s (Saif Ali Khan) sister’s, Shurpanikha’s (Tejaswini Pandit), nose is cut by Laxman and she urges Ravan to take revenge by abducting Janaki. Ravan disguises himself as a sadhu and on the pretext of receiving ‘bhiksha’ abducts Janaki with mystical powers and takes her to Lanka. Raghav with the help of Bajrang (Devdatt Nahe), Sugriv and the ‘vanar sena’ builds a Setu (bridge) on the sea and fights Ravan to free his beloved wife from his clutches. Well as the story is well known, novel storytelling could have been the differentiator.

Om Raut has presented this epic from his point of view but a lot of things fail to appeal. The initial half is slow and lack of emotional depth making it boring. The second half has a lot of action but it doesn’t grasp the audience’s breath. In fact Lanka which is known as made of gold is shown dark and made up of stony skyscrapers. Even the major fight and the climax doesn’t give extraordinary experience. The dialogues too disappoint as at places they sound ‘Tapori’. Om Raut has made efforts to make the proceedings interesting but he should have put in more efforts. The haircuts of some of the characters are questionable. VFX and CGI could have been much better as the viewers these days are exposed to better fare in the international films, series. Music (Ajay Atul) is the saving grace and Ram Siya Ram and other few songs are melodious. Background score is good but could have been better. Prabhas doesn’t gain sympathy as he wears stoic expression throughout. Kriti Sanon has a lesser screen time but she looks beautiful justifying her selection and scores in emotional scenes. Saif Ali Khan has tried to infuse drama in his character but he overdoes it. Devdatt Nage impresses with his presence and acting chops as (Bajrang) Hanuman. Sunny Singh, Tejashree Pradhan, Sonal Chauhan, Vijay Anand, Trupti Toradmal, Vatsal Seth and others do their job perfectly.

Adipurush is an amateurish attempt on presenting Ramayan in a modern technical format.

I’m happy that the audiences of Zee Anmol Cinema will get an opportunity to watch the show that we lived.”

Mukesh Khanna, along with Arjun, Nitish Bharadwaj, Puneet Issar, Roopa Ganguly, Praveen Sobti, Pankaj Dheer and Dara Singh very graciously mortalised the characters from this epic and truly justified the gravitas attached to them.

“The problem with TV is that people want to play safe, nobody is ready to take the risk. The audience is very intelligent and they want new content,” he added.  The “Myopia” actor also feels that the content on TV has not changed over the years and added, “We are still stuck with the daily soap format. There are some finite series, but that’s about it.”  He further said, “Daily soaps are very boring for me. In the finite series, you have the option of telling just one story, a character gets life from start to finish, there is the scope of an end which is not there in daily soaps. After a point, all the daily soaps are just dragged.”  For Rohit, shows on kitchen politics is a big no, and he said, “I will never want to be a part of saas-bahu dramas or shows that only are only women centric, I feel you need to maintain a balance and there are shows which were shown from the men’s perspective and they did well.”

Speaking of shows doing well, the actor also feels that ratings and TRPs are very important. “Ratings get advertisements, advertisements give us money and that’s how we earn, so ratings matter. But at the same time, you can experiment too,” Rohit concluded.

The actor admits that fans make or break an actor, and said that it became quite evident after the sad demise of Sushant Singh Rajput.

“Fans make an actor or break them and it has become so obvious especially after Sushant’s death. There are so many big faces who had to face the anger of the audience. We are where we are because of our fans, they have helped us reach these heights. Whether you are a superstar or an aspiring actor, it’s only fans who can bring you down or push you to success,” he said.

Rohit also confessed that he uses social media to interact with his fans, instead of using any other medium. Sharing his opinion on the social media boom, he said, “It is for good because you can show your talent on social media, but it has its repercussions too. I have an audience, and I interact with them on it. Other than that I don’t spend much time on these platforms.”

But is an actor’s talent relevant to his social media popularity? “Of course not. Anyone can be a hit on social media, so I don’t think an actor’s talent has anything to do with social media popularity.”

Sharing his thoughts on how celebrities sometimes overdo on social media, he said, “It’s very subjective, for someone it can be overdoing it, for some, it can be normal. But I don’t do anything like that.”

Rohit, however, confessed that social media is an addiction and added, “It is not just for actors but for everyone, I think people should leave their phones and internet for sometime and indulge in something else.”

Swwapnil Joshi and Nitish Bhardwaj are both well-known actors for their roles as Krishna. Nitish had played the role of Krishna in BR Chopra’s ‘Mahabharat’ (1988) while Swwapnil Joshi had played the lead role in Ramanand Sagar’s ‘Krishna’ (1993).  Both ‘Krishnas’ are coming together for a Marathi web series.

After the unprecedented success of the first season of the web series, Samantar, everyone is looking forward to it’s second season. Filming for the series is currently in full swing at Pachgani. Recently, the cast, producer, director and technician of the series came together for the shooting. While the audience is eager to see the juxtaposition of Swapnil Joshi and Nitish Bhardwaj in the second episode of this web series, the producers have promised that the audience will get to experience a lot of newer things in the second season.

The first season of ‘Samantar’ received a spontaneous response from the audience. The first season of Samantar, produced by GSEAMS (Global Sports Entertainment and Media Solutions Pvt. Ltd) Nitish Bhardwaj is reprising the role of Sudarshan Chakrapani. Swwapnil Joshi’s role of Kumar Mahajan was loved by the fans. For all these reasons, the wait for fans about this web series has been on the rise.

Though some maintain that luck too plays a part. However actor Aryamann Seth, did come to Mumbai to be successful but not in acting. Surprised? He has always been interested in diamonds and gems and to fulfil his grandfather’s wish he wanted to make a career in Gemmology. In fact after leaving a luxurious life back in New Delhi, Aryamann came to Mumbai to struggle to be a gemologist for which he enrolled himself into prestigious gemmology institutes, as he was not given permission to go to Belgium for the same, reason being he’s the only male child in the entire Seth family.

Bakula Bua Ka Bhoot’s producer J D Majithia was impressed with Aryamann’s work and even got done his Audition Video, which was instrumental in getting him a role in a web series, and uploaded it on YouTube. To elaborate, Aryamann’s video was shortlisted by Vikram Bhatt for his web series Naked. But before that Aryamann quit television industry and was waiting for the right opportunity for two years. Frankly he believes, with no offence to anyone, that the TV serials, most of them, are women oriented and male actors do not get to show their talent. After BBKB he consciously avoided daily soaps and worked on his craft. He is a voracious reader and reading about his field helped him hone it sharply. He did workshops, worked on his physique etc to keep himself occupied. He strongly believes in god and the prayers gave him strength to tide over negativity. He was extremely happy for getting selected to do a lead role in Vikram Bhatt’s Loneranger Productions. Working in the professional atmosphere was a learning experience and the way Vikram Bhatt handled his bold scene were not a bit uncomfortable.

Aryamann doesn’t idolises any actor. He says he takes bits from everyone, including spot boys. Learning is an ongoing process for him and he does it diligently by grasping good things from almost everyone. In recent times, Drugs, this word has been doing rounds left, right and centre prominently. Aryamann detests, loathes and pities people who do drugs. In fact he gets amused when people think that he might be on substance because of his frenzied dancing at parties. Actually during lockdown Aryamann got hooked to Geeta, yes, Bhagwat Gita. He and Ritwik used to read it together and experienced an outstanding improvement in their thought process. The positive impact helped them tide over the ‘prisoned’ (due to lockdown, of course) state they were in, like rest of the world.
