“Ishq Mein Marjawan has been the game changer in my career. And, I shall always be thankful to Mr Vikram Bhatt for offering me my first lead role in Twisted 2. That project helped me grow as an artist,” he smiles.

Rrahul prefers maintaining a low profile. One wonders what makes him stay away from the limelight.

“Well mostly bed rest post the slipped disc kept me out of the business. Also whatever opportunity I managed to grab either got scrapped entirely or never released. Just a stroke of bad luck I guess,” he shares.

Summing up his experience of working in the show, Tere Ishq Mein Ghayal, he adds, “To an ever evolving human, I can only thank my producers for this opportunity. To be in the company of such fine actors and to learn and draw inspiration from them is an amazing experience. I guess I can safely say I am a tad bit better than what I was in Ishq Mein Marjwan.”

Rrahul has worked with Yash and Mamta twice. And he has only good things to say about them and their team.

“It started off as what we call ‘beginner’s luck’. I remember I wanted to leave acting and move back home when I got Ishq Mein Marjawan. On the first day of the shoot, Mamta ma’am told me ‘Please forget your past and start like this is the first project of your life’. I took it to heart and never looked back. Post the show I was their first choice for every project they made, which speaks volumes about the trust they have in me. The only project I was never called for was Tere Ishq Mein Ghayal and I wondered why, now I know why. For me, personally they have been there at my worst and that is something I am always indebted to them for,” he sounds emotional.

Meanwhile, Rrahul feels that the OTT boom has been wonderful. “I think ‘OTT boom’ sounds like a paradigm shift, but it isn’t. The same audience got more engaging and intense stuff to watch on OTT platforms and they have clearly liked it more. Television needs to revise its approach and cater to a bigger audience pan India if they want to survive these times,” he opines.

“I am playing the character of Asmita Roy, an award-winning editor. She’s a Bengali girl who loves reading old classic literature, she’s in love with writers like Manto, Charles Dicken, Premchand, and she’s basically a fan of those writers. She feels that this generation of writers, they just write for the sake of writing. She feels that these writers don’t have depth or meaning in their stories which is why she isn’t fond of reading or editing those books. Besides, Asmita Roy is full of dignity, she is a strong working woman who will not take nonsense from anyone be it of any authority. Self-respect comes before anything and she is a responsible girl. She has a family with a mother and grandmother. Her father died 10 years ago, so she has a house to run. She is a responsible girl and very talented and has faith in her talent,” she says.

While all her shows have been special to her, playing the lead character in this one makes her apprehensive at times. “For me, all projects are landmark projects. Luckily, for me, every role was different from the previous role and every genre was different and people have loved my work. Every project is a landmark for me. Playing the lead, it certainly translates into a lot of pressure. However, it also makes me feel responsible and doesn’t let me become complacent. I love to be on my toes. I should have butterflies in my stomach every time I face the camera. I want to feel alive as an artist.”

Well, seems like people are loving Niyati in the show. “The promo has received a lot of love and appreciation. People are calling it a film quality. There’s a lot of tashan and people are liking the attitude that both of us have. It’s interesting so yes, it’s good feedback. People are already excited for the show,” she says.

Meanwhile, the actress has worked before with Yash Patnaik & Mamta Patnaik (Beyond Dreams Entertainment Private Limited ). “It’s actually my third project including a cameo in Ishq Mein Ghayal. It’s been 8 months since I have been working with them. It certainly shows how comfortable we are and how much faith we have in each other. I hope that like my other shows, this one also goes smoothly. I am sure it will and we will make a successful and a beautiful show,” she says.

This also happens to be her OTT debut. “I am very excited certainly because I always wanted to do OTT for a very long time and 2023 has opened the doors for me. I am very happy, grateful and excited. However, I don’t think anyone can ever take over TV’s attention, TV is always going to be there,” she says.

The trailer of the upcoming streaming show ‘Dear Ishq’ was unveiled on Tuesday. With its length of under a minute, the trailer sets the tone of the story with a feud between a best-selling romance writer and an employee of a publishing house.

Set against the backdrop of an Indian publishing house, the show presents a tale of love, a journey with complex emotions, and at the crux of it, a story of two completely opposite personalities, who walk this simple journey of life, unknowingly falling for each other.

The show stars Sehban Azim as bestselling author Abhimanyu Razdan and actress Niyati Fatnani as literary editor, Asmita Roy.

Talking about his character, actor Sehban Azim said: “I play Abhimanyu Razdan, a self-made man who’s quite successful at an early age. The blue-eyed boy of Indian publishing. Known for his best-selling romance novels. He’s drunk on his success, not at all a quintessential guy, he’s rather callous and egoistic. He isn’t anything like the emotional and sensitive men he writes about in his novels but quite the opposite and that’s the most interesting part about my character.”

Actress Niyati Fatnani said: “Asmita Roy is a Bengali girl who is an award-winning literary editor. She is an honest, talented girl and is a fan of classic writers and storytellers like Premchand, Rabindranath Tagore, etc. She is a very today woman who is independent and will voice out her opinions and will not tolerate injustice of any kind. This is why she openly disregards the new generation writers and their stories as she finds such stories are very superficial and have no depth or not give any useful message to readers.”

The show, which also stars Kunal Verma, Vikas Grover, Kishwer Merchant, Jyoti B. Banerjee, Puneet Tejwani, Roma Bali, Beena Mukherjee, Buneet Kapoor, and Kaveri Ghosh, is set to air on January 26, 2023 on Disney+ Hotstar.

“I love to celebrate this festival with my childhood friends, but for the last two years, I haven’t seen them as I was too busy shooting. This time I am trying to take some time out. And you definitely know it’s Diwali when you pose with your group of friends holding phuljhadis or a group of kids are seen debating whether bombs should be banned or not. Moreover, jumping with joy while bursting rockets, chakras and flower pots, is truly Diwali dhamaka,” he sounds nostalgic.

Sharing his most favourite Diwali memory, Faiman adds, “I wait for Diwali every year so that I can buy a lot of stuff at a discounted price.
