Rani Mukerji said on winning her first national award, “I’m truly overwhelmed to receive my first National Award in my 30-year journey as an actor. This honour means the world to me, and I want to dedicate it to my late father, who always dreamt of this moment for me. I miss him deeply today, and I know it’s his blessing and my mother’s constant strength and inspiration that guided me through the role of Mrs. Chatterjee.

To my incredible fans, thank you for being by my side through every high and low. Your unwavering love and support has been my greatest motivation. I know how much this award means to all of you, and it brings me immense joy and happiness to see how happy you are.

I share this award with my brilliant director Ashima, my producers Nikkhil, Monisha, Madhu, and everyone at Zee who brought this film together. Above all, I thank my entire cast and crew from Estonia and India without whom this film could not have been made, especially during the challenges of the COVID period. The entire team of Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway poured their hearts into this powerful story, and I’m deeply grateful to each one of them.

When this story came to me, I was myself shocked to know that a mother was treated like this and how her kids were taken away from her. When I was shooting, I just had one thing in mind – that I had to give more than my 100% so as to bring this story of Sagarika on the big screen and make it feel real and to show it in a way that people forget me but see Devika Chatterjee in me. Hence it was important for me to become the character, and I am very happy and thankful that the audience liked it and they gave so much love to MCVN, to me, I am really grateful and very humbled with this award. Thank you Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival for giving me this honour. It is always truly special to win an award, specially when the audiences love your work and they give you the award first through box office, and second through these wonderful little mementos for the film.”

Talking about the song, Rani Mukerji shares, “Maa Ke Dil Se is one of the best songs that I have heard in recent times that defines the mother-child relationship so beautifully. The first time I heard the song I was extremely moved by the words penned by Kausar, I could only think of my mother and my child and my journey from being a daughter to becoming a mother. The whole concept of the song is whether the mother gives birth to the child or the child gives birth to the mother.”

Dedicating the song to her mother, Rani expresses, “It is truly special that this song is releasing on Women’s Day as my life as a woman changed completely after I became a mother. I would like to dedicate this song to my mother who has made several sacrifices for me over the years. Motherhood is a glorious life force and an act of infinite positivity.”

She further adds, “I think it is one of the best-written songs by Kausar and Amit has given a completely new emotional melody, when one hears the song it tugs at the heartstrings, Javed Ali and Dipakshi Kalita have only added to the melody, and lyrics they have sung the song with so much depth and emotion. In the scenario of the film the song is really apt and it goes seamlessly with the narrative of the story and adds a lot of richness to the screenplay moments of the film there could not be any better song for the movie.”

Ace lyricist Kausar Munir says, “The thought of this song was sparked by the motherhood memory of Rani Mukerji, that ‘a child gives birth to a mother’. With this flame, I was able to kindle my own experience of motherhood and put it to poetry.”

Talking about this melody’s connection with her roots, *Rani Mukerji* says, “Being a Bengali, I’m all for the representation of my roots, and my culture in mainstream Hindi cinema. My heart is full that I have played a Bengali character in Mrs. Chatterjee Vs Norway and showcased the spirit of a fierce Bengali mother in the film. What I really love about the movie is that it has tried to represent the culture of West Bengal in various endearing ways including the saris that I have worn, the way Bengalis celebrate Durga Puja the way I have spoken Bengali and even the fact that the songs have Bengali lyrics, the touch of Baul music and the presence of Dhaak (Bengali drum) & Shankh (Conch Shell) – which are intrinsic to Bengali folk music. It is commendable that music composer, Amit Trivedi, and lyricist Kausar Munir aren’t Bengalis and yet they have shown so much sensitivity to represent my culture and roots so brilliantly. Cinema today is all about the synchronicity of cultures and traditions and I’m proud that my film is showcasing the authenticity unabashedly.

She further adds, “I personally love and enjoy listening to all the songs of Mrs. Chatterjee Vs Norway. Amit Trivedi and Kausar Munir have done a fabulous job with the melody and the lyrics of this album.”

“The lyrics of the song Shubho Shubho is really special to the film. The word ‘Shubho’ is also my character Debika’s son’s name in the film- ‘Shubh’ meaning auspicious in Bangla. So indeed it is very special and auspicious for us to drop the first song with the word Shubho as part of the mukhda!! It makes me really happy as a Bengali to share a slice of my culture with all Indians across the world through this beautiful song”, Rani concludes.
