Speaking more on his career in acting Mrunal says,” I’m an actor first. It’s just that I am also busy with Tennis Premier League, which I have been doing for the last five years. A lot of time and effort has gone over there to build up my IP, so the business entrepreneur inside me was working and building the other side of my passion, which is sports. I do get offers in acting, whether it is antagonists or protagonists but few I didn’t like and few clashed with my calendar. My last show was Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. Before that, I have done a web series that is about to be released this year. Honestly, I am not staying away from television, but there were a lot of commitments towards my own sports engagements, which is why you’ve not seen me on screen. Now that my league’s (TPL) season 5 has finished in December, the next 6 months I will be looking forward to a good show or a web series. Side by side, I am doing a few music albums as well. Three of my music videos were released last year, and I am looking forward to doing a few more this year.”

But in today’s scenario when there are a number of actors and tough competition is there, is getting good work a challenge? Mrunal has a different opinion on that.

He adds,”I would say it’s the choice of work that every actor wants to do. Sometimes what I wanted to do didn’t come my way, and something that I didn’t want to do I took up, and that turned into the right choice for me. So sometimes your gut feeling or instincts say you need to take up that thing. At times the actor gets an instinctive feeling which is “yes, I want to do this, I really want to do this. Competition was there before also, and it is going to increase every year because there are a lot of platforms that have come. There are OTT platforms – in the last 5 years, the scenario has changed since COVID, so competition has increased, but simultaneously, there are a lot of platforms that have increased, which has created a lot of opportunities for actors to work on. If I think about competition, I would be stuck with “What I don’t get.” So rather than focusing on myself and what I can get and what I should be giving best for, my focus is not on competition; my focus is on myself rather than on any competition.“

Mrunal has played various shades in his career and is eagerly waiting for something which will excite him as an actor. He also wants to let people know that he has not taken a break from acting. He believes his entrepreneur side and acting can be maintained in a balanced way.

Mrunal, who was born in Ahmedabad, loves everything about Gujarat. He shared, “We moved from Ahmedabad to Mumbai when I was five years old. I have many relatives in Gujarat and I love Gujarati food. Be it language or food, I love everything about Gujarat.”

Asked why he hasn’t been seen on TV for such a long time, he said, “It’s not like I don’t want to make a comeback on TV. Uttaran was a game-changer for me and I would love to do something good and different. Honestly, I have tried but not been chosen for roles and somehow, things haven’t worked out. Mrunal, who has a chiseled body and six-pack abs, had said in an interview that it has probably gone against him as an actor.

Asked to elaborate, he shared, “Ye industry mein jo dikhta hai, wo bikta hai. I don’t want to blame anyone but some people have this wrong perception that I only work on my body and not my craft. For me, staying fit is a way of life and it’s also about motivating my fans to stay fit. However, it seems to have backfired.”

Mrunal and his wife Sweetie are all set to become parents next year. Talking about it, he said, “I am really excited and I hope for a mask-free world for my child.”

“This is a film which was most awaited in 2021, and is finally releasing after one and a half year. We are hoping that if this film works, the entertainment and theatres will be back in action. The audience can enjoy it. So I’m definitely looking forward to this fim and it’s the biggest break of my career. I hope people notice my work,” he said.

“For the last 3 years, I have been getting calls for negative roles only. In Sooryavanshi also, I’m playing the antagonist, so I feel I’m also exploring the antagonist side. It’s very interesting that with the positive face, I’m going to play the antagonist role. As an actor I feel I’ve always been positive and the protagonist. In the last film I also did a negative role. I think I’m actually trying to identify myself as an antagonist. I’m exploring this side of the role,” he added.

For the film, which also stars Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif, he shot in Hyderabad, Ooty and Mumbai. “So 3 different locations in the year 2019. And of course all the superstars were there,” he said. Every moment on the set was interesting for him.

“The reason is that it was completely new. For me to be on Rohit Shetty’s set and it was like a dream, so I was actually in my dreamland. Every moment, every shot, every scene were just learning experiences. Every day at Sooryavanshi set was a memorable day,” he said.

“I was seeing the way the actors had their dedication towards their craft, towards their scene. How they used to perceive their scenes, their characters. So I’ve only grasped everything inside me and I’ve kept it with me. To be directed by the best director Rohit Sir, it was likea dream. It was the best moment in my career. The best of my days in my career,” he added. He has a long list of the kind of films he wants to do.

“I have a long list, but life and my career are always surprising me with different kinds of roles, so I am now leaving it up to each day as it comes. I’m definitely not restricting myself to a few roles, but I’m exploring whatever comes to me. I’m trying to see new dimensions to the role and my career with that role. I just want to go with the flow,” said Mrunal.

True relation is when someone stands by your side in your difficult times and we siblings always have each other’s back.

I still remember how me and my brother Pavan he is in IT tried the WWE chokeslam and WWE pedigree during one rakhi celebrations. (Laughs) I am glad I survived. My brother always scolded me for the mess I used to create and was this loving and protective sort of an elder sibling when we were children. In fact, nothing has changed. The festival of rakhi reminds us of the relation and bond we share with our brothers no matter how much we fight. The love and respect I have for my brother has no bounds. We grew up together facing all the struggles and hardships, and stood there for each together.

Zohaeb Farooqui (will be seen in web series Inspector Avinash) One of my fondest memories of Raakhi is of my sister Meghna writing me a letter when I was studying in boarding.. I remember she sent me a Raakhi in an envelope with a letter. The same thing happened again during this pandemic and honestly it brought down all my childhood memories. This year I genuinely look forward to meeting my sisters and have some fun time with them.

Delnaaz Irani ( Will be seen in Kashmera Shah’s directed film) Rakhi has always been an extremely special occasion. My elder brother Porus Irani stays in London for the last ten years so we usually miss celebrating the festival with him. So it will be only Bakhtiyaar Irani (younger brother; actor) and me as we both are in Mumbai. We make it a point to meet and have lunch followed by dinner. This year it’s going to be a rakhi celebration over dinner. We will be video calling Porus and I will tie two rakhis to Bakhtiyaar. My brothers are my pillars of strength, I trust them completely. Whenever I need them they are always there for me, they are very protective and possessive and extremely caring. Both of them have immense love and understand me well. I completely adore both of them.
