Review: Nagabandham: Visually Grand Mythological Adventure That Loses Its Way in an Overstretched Narrative!

Cine Reporter — Fri, 03 Jul 2026 14:42:17 +0000

The growing success of mythological thrillers and fantasy adventures has proved that audiences are increasingly drawn towards stories rooted in India’s rich history, folklore and spiritual heritage. Films blending ancient legends with modern storytelling have found a loyal audience eager to revisit forgotten myths, sacred temples and historical mysteries on the big screen. Riding on this trend, director Abhishek Nama presents Nagabandham, a visually ambitious mythological fantasy that combines hidden treasures, immortal warriors, ancient manuscripts and divine relics. While the film promises an epic adventure inspired by Indian mythology, its excessive length and uneven storytelling prevent it from achieving the emotional impact it aims for.

Nagabandham revolves around two sacred relics—an ancient manuscript and the divine Brahmakamalam flower protected within the Anantha Padmanabha Swamy tradition and Ranganathaswamy Temple at Srirangapatna—which together unlock a mythical gateway leading to a treasure capable of changing India’s destiny. On one side stands the ruthless Abdali (Rishabh Sawhney), a man who has waited centuries to possess the relics and will eliminate anyone standing in his way. Opposing him is Rudra (Virat Karrna), entrusted with safeguarding the sacred objects from falling into evil hands. Caught between them is Parvathi (Nabha Natesh), whose true intentions remain mysterious for much of the narrative. As the story travels across different timelines, introducing sages, warriors, temple guardians and historical figures, it gradually unfolds into a battle between faith, greed and destiny.

Director Abhishek Nama deserves appreciation for mounting Nagabandham on a lavish scale. The magnificent production design, especially the elaborate temple sets and period recreations, lends authenticity to the film, while the cinematography captures the grandeur of the locations with impressive visual flair. Several VFX-heavy sequences are mounted effectively and add to the mythological spectacle. However, the writing and screenplay struggle under the weight of too many characters, flashbacks and subplots, leaving little room for emotional investment. At nearly 196 minutes, the film feels unnecessarily stretched, with repetitive action blocks slowing the narrative considerably. Sharper editing could have made the storytelling far more engaging. The background score complements the adventurous mood, although the music itself leaves only a limited impression.

Among the performances, Rishabh Sawhney stands out with a commanding dual portrayal of Ali and Ahmad Shah Abdali, bringing menace and conviction to the antagonist. Virat Karrna looks impressive, particularly as the seventeenth-century Naga Sadhu, but his performance as Rudra lacks the emotional depth needed for such a pivotal role. Nabha Natesh delivers a competent performance with more scope than in many of her recent outings, while Jagapathi Babu, Murali Sharma and Mahesh Manjrekar provide dependable support.

Ultimately, Nagabandham succeeds as a visual spectacle but falls short of becoming a truly memorable mythological adventure because its grand scale is not matched by equally compelling storytelling.

Superstar Mahesh Babu Unveiled Teaser Of ‘Nagabandham’!

Cine Reporter — Sun, 15 Feb 2026 13:31:25 +0000

The wait is finally over. The much-anticipated teaser of the mytho-action spectacle Nagabandham, directed by Abhishek Nama and starring Virat Karrna, has been unveiled on the auspicious occasion of Maha Shivaratri. Backed by producers Kishore Annapureddy and Nishitha Nagireddy, the film is mounted on a massive canvas, promising world-class scale and rich production values that shape it into a true magnum opus. Their bold vision shines through in every frame, blending spiritual depth with striking visual ambition.

The excitement soared to new heights as Superstar Mahesh Babu unveiled the teaser, sparking a wave of anticipation across the nation.

Set against the mystic Himalayan expanse, the teaser opens a gateway into a world where a secret older than time itself lies buried. When one man’s greed threatens to expose this cosmic truth, destiny steps forward to choose its warrior.

Partly inspired by the historical Afghan invasion led by Abdali, the narrative blends mythology, history, and spiritual warfare. The conflict takes shape at the intersection of cultural resistance and divine guardianship.

At the heart of this epic lies the sacred Nagabandham Temple, a hidden shrine protected by celestial energies and believed to safeguard an ancient cosmic force. Nestled deep within secret Himalayan pathways, the temple holds a power so immense that its fall into the wrong hands could trigger unimaginable devastation.

Born from Brahma’s Creation… Guarded by Vishnu’s Dharma… Powered by Mahadev’s Fury…, this striking line perfectly captures the soul of Nagabandham: a saga where divinity, destiny, and destruction collide.

Director Abhishek Nama showcases bold ambition and crystal-clear vision. His blend of mythology, action, and spiritual depth, elevated by exceptional technical execution, gives the teaser a powerful cinematic identity that promises a monumental theatrical experience. Even without a single dialogue, the teaser manages to spellbind viewers with its sheer visual power and larger-than-life storytelling.

From the very first frame, Nagabandham asserts itself as a grand visual epic. Cinematographer Soundar Rajan S captures breathtaking landscapes with stunning finesse, while high-end VFX elevate the scale and spectacle.

Complementing the visuals, Ashok Kumar’s immersive production design, Junaid Kumar’s goosebumps-inducing background score, and RC Pranav’s razor-sharp editing draw viewers into a universe where devotion turns into warfare and faith transforms into fury.

Despite being their debut production, the producers’ uncompromising approach is evident throughout, strongly backing the ambitious vision of director Abhishek Nama. From erecting massive sets to exercising meticulous care in VFX and every technical department, the film’s production values aim to redefine the benchmarks of Indian cinema.

Leading the narrative, Virat Karrna delivers a fierce, transformative avatar. His commanding presence, especially in the stunning Lord Shiva manifestation, is the highlight of the teaser, other than his fight with the crocodile. Portraying Lord Shiva is never easy, but Virat owns the role with remarkable conviction. The intensity, physical transformation, and emotional depth on display strongly hint at a career-defining performance.

The casting is another major asset, featuring Nabha Natesh, Ishwarya Menon, Mahesh Manjrekar, Jagapathi Babu, Rishabh Sawhney, Garuda Ram, Jayaprakash, Murali Sharma, Anasuya Bharadwaj, and BS Avinash in crucial roles.

With overwhelming appreciation pouring in, Nagabandham has firmly positioned itself as one of the most awaited pan-India spectacles. If the teaser is any indication, audiences are in for an unforgettable cinematic journey where faith, fury, and fate collide on an epic scale.

The teaser was screened to thunderous acclaim at Prasads PCX in Hyderabad yesterday, earning rave reviews for its larger-than-life storytelling and stunning scale. The response was nothing short of electric, with media representatives breaking into applause and giving the teaser a standing ovation.

This summer, get ready to witness a timeless battle, where Dharma rises and destruction trembles.

Team ‘Nagabandham’ Introduces First Look of Rishabh Sawhney!

Cine Reporter — Sat, 07 Feb 2026 08:12:14 +0000

Abhishek Nama’s much-awaited mythological action drama Nagabandham, starring Virat Karrna, is gearing up for a grand Pan-India release this summer. The film’s teaser is set to drop on the 15th of this month, marking the auspicious occasion of Maha Shivaratri. Ahead of it, the makers have unveiled the first look of another key character from the epic narrative.

Rishabh Sawhney, known for his commanding presence in Bollywood’s Fighter, has delivered a remarkable performance in Nagabandham, where he takes on the role of the infamous Afghan Sultan Abdali. Set in 1750, the film recounts Abdali’s conquest in India, detailing his notorious acts of looting temples and his relentless pursuit of vast wealth.

The first-look poster is a striking visual set against a storm-lashed, snow-covered battlefield. Rishabh appears in mid-charge, brandishing a giant, blood-soaked battle axe with fierce resolve. Behind him surges a massive army, green war flags tearing through the icy winds, accompanied by archers, warriors, and towering war elephants- building an intense, high-voltage war canvas. Adding to the menace, a pack of wolves with glowing eyes closes in around him, amplifying the aura of danger, power, and impending doom.

In “Nagabandham,” Abdali is depicted as a figure driven by ambition and cruelty, willing to sacrifice the lives of many, including Brahmins and children, in his quest to uncover the mythical Naga Bandham hidden in the Himalayas. The character remains a significant and dark part of history, known for his extreme ruthlessness.

Director Abhishek Nama praised Rishabh’s portrayal, noting that his performance is so convincing that it feels as if the historical figure of Abdali has come to life on screen. “Rishabh has transformed into this complex character, bringing depth and intensity to the role,” he stated.

“I am honored to portray a character as challenging as Abdali,” Rishabh shared. “I aimed to reflect the complexities and motives of this historical figure while remaining true to the story’s essence.”

https://www.instagram.com/p/DUaqRGvDK-U/?igsh=MXUwOXVpZGh5NDBxOQ==

The film features Nabha Natesh and Iswarya Menon as the female leads, with seasoned performers Jagapathi Babu, Jayaprakash, Murali Sharma, and BS Avinash anchoring the narrative with impactful roles.

Backed by the technical brilliance of Soundar Rajan S behind the camera, RC Pranav handling the editing, and Ashok Kumar shaping the grand production design, Nagabandham promises an arresting visual experience on the big screen.

Bankrolled by Kishore Annapureddy and Nishitha Nagireddy, the film is now entering the final leg of its production journey, steadily moving toward completion.
