But today, proudly I can say aaj mere awards mein 100 plus celebrities ate hai. This gives me pleasure and har saal mujhe karna chhaiye continue. Every actor wants to be appreciated. Ab aisa ho gaya hai ki awards bahut saare hai, but kuch awards actors ke leeye bahut khaas hote hai. (Nowadays there are many awards. Earlier when an actor would get an award, the celebration would continue for days. But now, today you get one award, and tomorrow another one, so that celebration is short lived. However, International Iconic’s tag is special and one feels motivated to do more. Every actor wants to be appreciated. Some awards are special,” he says. “I feel absolutely safe in Mumbai. I am from Delhi and there is a lot more crime that takes place in Delhi. So, for me, Mumbai is much safer and peaceful and warm city to live in. When this incident happened, I was in Delhi and was working at a call centre that time and had come back home in the morning after the night shift selling credit cards to Americans. I just came home and switched on the TV to have my breakfast and then sleep. I came across this news and it was shocking,” he says.

He adds, “The visuals were horrifying and was a difficult time to process. Since I was Delhi back then and had no connection to Mumbai, I took it as news that one would watch something happening at a distant city even though it’s the same country. You get that feeling that such things don’t happen in Delhi. That wasn’t very mature to be as back then I was just 21 years old. But just the next year, I moved to Mumbai but this thought that whether Mumbai is safe or not never came into my head.”

He says that Mumbai is one of the safest cities in the country today. “Mumbai is a city that never gives up. No matter what you throw at it, it is able to stand up again and move. I think Mumbai has enough security and is a safe city for everyone. Yes, this incident happened but it doesn’t mean it will happen again easily. Our law enforcement agencies are even more aware and are much more careful that the loopholes that caused 26/11 should not happen again. Bomb scare happens a lot and sometimes it comes out to be a prank. Mumbai never sleeps and never gives up. We don’t sit home just because there is a threat outside. We face it. The track record of Mumbai is so safe that you believe that you are safe,” he says.

Popular TV actor Siddhaanth Surryavanshi, known for shows such as “Kkusum”, “Kasautii Zindagii Kay” and “Ziddi Dil Maane Na”, died on Friday after suffering a heart attack at a gym here. He was 46. Actor Nishant Malkhani who shared screen with the late actor talks about his experience of working with him in Control Room.

He says, “I was really shocked and hurt that such a great human being,a beautiful soul and such a great actor is no more. It’s a very unfortunate incident. My condolences to his family. The experience of working with him was amazing. He was such a senior person in the industry yet so humble and never made anybody feel inferior. He had no ego or attitude and was very cooperative and good to work with.” Nishant who is a fit guy and sports a perfectly toned body shares his personal view on the health hazards of working out in the gym. He says, “A lot of such incidents are happening and I really don’t understand why it’s happening. Gym is a place that makes you fit and makes your heart stronger. We can’t blame it on the gym. There are some underlying conditions in all of us that we are many times unaware of. When we strain our hearts without knowing that there is something wrong going in our internal systems that’s when such unfortunate events happen.The best you can do is to always maintain a very healthy diet. A good sleep cycle is the most important for your heart’s health. Every six months one should have a full body checkup done so we know what exactly is going on in our body. The kind of stress, pollution, food, lifestyle and lack of sleep we have in this industry can only lead to a bad result. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle and good sleep cycle is really important and that’s what I do.”

Nishant also highlights an important aspect about gyms. He says, “A lot of gym trainers are frauds – they have no knowledge and are not well read. They are undertrained and also underpaid so what they do is sell all these supplements to their clients for some extra money. Fat burners, pre workout supplements and similar stuff have bad chemicals which our heart cannot take after a time. You are allowed 300-400 caffeine in a day, which is 2 cups of black coffee. But if you take 2 fat burners and 2 pre workouts just to boost your metabolism which is 1000 mg caffeine – your heart can’t take it. But you are not aware of these things because you trust your trainers and unfortunately they are not aware of these things either. So I just hope we develop strict regulations in which only qualified and knowledgeable people are eligible to become trainers in a gym.”

“Two independent people coming together and making a deal that from this point onwards you and I would do everything to bring out the best version of the other person out, that kind of emotional support is what I think is love. One should not or can’t be selfish in love. By selfish in this context means that one likes receiving love from somebody but the same person doesn’t want to make the effort to make the other person feel loved. Love means different things to different people at different stages of life… I think empathy and compassion are required right now in the world. I, myself, try to be nice to everyone I meet because no one is inferior or superior to you,” he says.

Many feel social media has blurred the lines between real and fake, making it hard to find love. “The images and videos that go out everyday showing people having fun, we have no idea what is actually going on behind the curtain. How does that person live, struggles he faces, how insecure he is or what he has lost… Social media is silly, and one should not ever trust that because what you’re seeing is the image that the other person is portraying and not the reality,” he adds.

Even if one falls in love, giving time these days becomes an issue. “It’s going to be an issue unless you’re trying your best. If your partner loves, respects and understands you and because of some genuine work-related issues you’re not able to give enough time I think the other person will understand. When love is true and genuine even two minutes spend with your beloved feels eternity,” he explains.

Love, for many, is an illusion. “I cannot scientifically prove anything, can only share my viewpoint. Love does exist and maybe it hits you once or twice in life, I don’t know. It hit me once, and that feeling never goes away even if that person is not around you. So when somebody seeks love advice, even though I’ve not done great in terms of love, I tell them that if your partner is giving you 10 at least give them 7 or 8 back. But if you’re giving back 2 then that balance of 8 will be managed one day or for a few days but soon it’ll pile up, and then that gets difficult. Both loving someone and being loved are important,” he says.

It is often said that celebrities are always chasing fame, and often don’t have time or find true love. “There are some who would choose fame above love, and I wish that they find love in the long run someday. But more often than not God gives you options to choose what you want and sometimes we choose what we think we want and not what we actually need. It’s not wrong to be career oriented but not letting the other person, who loves you, know that your career is more important than love, is wrong. And the entire phenomenon has nothing to do with celebrities, it’s for all. Those who want love in reality, they find it and value the love when they get it,” he concludes.

Talking about portraying fatherly emotions on-screen, he said, “This is the first time I have done a full-on fatherly role with two little kids, and honestly speaking, I think it was a beautiful experience because I got to explore the fatherly side of myself and I realized how much I love kids and how much I would love to be a father someday. So thanks to ‘Rakshabandhan…’ I have had the realization that I want to be a father someday.”

When the show started he played Umed Pratap Singh, a single father of two kids – Rasaal and Shivraj. Asked if there were any apprehensions about playing a father on-screen, he said, “My character was of course a father to two kids but otherwise he is shown to be a really handsome dude with Rajasthani royal looks. He was shown like a king with a nice mustache and there are so many scenes where he is fighting like an action hero. He is showing off his body while working out. So of course, he’s a single father but a very attractive, very loving man. And I think overall looks-wise, Umed Pratap Singh was one of the most good-looking characters that I have ever played.”

After Umed’s death, the show takes a leap and Nishant is then seen as Shivraj. He said that he is lucky that he got to explore this concept of playing both son and father on-screen and added, “I never thought this would happen with me because usually most of the time this happens with the female leads of a show.”

He further said, “But like I keep saying, I am always very lucky when it comes to television. I get very male-centric roles in female-centric stories too. So in this show, when I played Umed Pratap Singh and now that I play his son, Shivraj, both characters are the center of the show, the story and the actual male protagonist of the show. So I think it is a wonderful opportunity for me to explore this and show that I can play the father and the son and do a convincing job out of it.”

Nishant has two music videos in the pipeline which will be out soon. He stressed that music videos easily reach a lot of people and said, “The chances of the video going viral is much higher if the song becomes a hit. Also, everybody loves music, everybody loves good songs, so if you get to be part of a super hit song, I think that’ll increase my audience by many folds from what I have currently. Let’s hope for the best and hope that my songs do well when they come out.”
