Singer Oye Kunaal’s next ‘Uss Gali’ is a sad romantic song!

Oye Kunaal, known for his songs “Waqt”, “Shukar Kar”, “Hanjua Di Tha”, and “Patola”, recently released his new song “Ek Dafa Toh Mil” featuring actors Arjit Taneja and Anjum Fakih. In no time, the song has become a huge hit. Now the soulful singer is ready with his next song Uss Gali featuring him and actress Charvi Dutta.

Speaking of the new number, Kunaal says,”Uss Gali is a sad romantic song. It’s a breakup song which says I couldn’t go back to the path where I have been and still remember the time I spent with my beloved. This has been my favourite genre. I have composed and sung the song, while Rishabh Puri has written the song and also produced. The video is being directed by Manish Soni, who is also known as Tedda Banda. We have shot this song in a place which is a one hour drive from Chandigarh. During the shooting, we have maintained social distancing and all protocols of shooting during a pandemic – right from wearing masks to sanitising everything. We were all very conscious and alert. Working with Charvi was also fun and she made me very comfortable in front of the camera.”

Speaking about his personal life Kunaal says,”I have been through a heartbreak. As an artist I seek inspiration from people I meet on a day to day basis. Most of my inspiration comes from my favourite spot in Mumbai – a coffee shop where I find so many emotions. As a singer, I always prefer melody over anything else. It is evergreen so I like romantic and semi-sad songs. I have started writing songs and stories for quite sometime now. Writing is something which I enjoy a lot. My focus in career now is to make good music. I have been getting a few acting assignments also. I might take couple of them in the future.”

Oye Kunaal feels that a lot of deserving actors are not getting a chance in music videos!

Oye Kunaal, known for his songs like “Waqt”, “Shukar Kar”, “Hanjua Di Tha”, and “Patola”, recently released his new song “Ek Dafa Toh Mil” featuring actors Arjit Taneja and Anjum Fakih. The popular singer feels that a lot of deserving actors are not getting a chance in music videos since people have started to cast TikTok users.

“These days a lot of Tiktok users are featured in music videos rather than TV actors and I feel because of that a lot of deserving and well-experienced actors are not getting work. Is it because of the number of followers on social media accounts? If not then the deserving actors should definitely get a chance,” he said.

Music videos were quite prominent in the late 90s, and the trend has picked up again, talking about it Kunaal said, “Music videos are popular again and it is very important for them to be in trend because not everyone gets a chance to become a playback singer. I think with music videos everyone gets a chance to prove himself as a singer or a performer.”

Kunaal revealed that his favourite song includes “Ek Dafa Toh Mil” and “Waqt”, he further said, “As a singer, I always prefer melody as melody never dies. It is evergreen so I like romantic and semi-sad songs.”

He, however, confessed that it’s not easy to shoot a music video. He said, “In a music video we have to show the whole story in three to four minutes, so it’s always a challenge to do so.”

Kunaal also shared that people choose music videos over short films, and said, “There’s a lot of difference in music as well as the level of the making of music videos, so now people are keener on investing in a music video rather than a short film.”

Throwing more light on the song Kunaal says,”Ek Dafa Toh Mil is a sad romantic song and I thought of the tune when I was in a cafe. I saw someone was having coffee and calling someone to come over and meet there. From there I got the main idea of the song.” The song has been composed and sung by Kunaal.

Speaking on Arijit and Anjum Kunaal adds,” Their on-screen chemistry is too good. The song is suiting them so well. Both of them are popular faces and I am sure their chemistry will make this song scale new heights. Director Faisal Miya has done a fabulous job. He is someone who always looks for the minutest detailing and has an eye for perfection. I have a very warm relationship with him. He called me up and asked for a good tune and when I told him about the song he immediately liked it. To me, the melody of the song is very important because that is the pathway to a viewer’s heart. The sad romantic genre has a lot of scope for a musician. I am hoping people will like the song.”

Sharing an interesting story behind the love and respect Oye Kunaal has for Kapil Sharma, he says, “There was a phase in my life when my father was suffering from a lot of health issues. I had never seen my father so ill before that. Right now he is fit and fine. At that time the atmosphere in my house was very grim and dark. So, in an atmosphere where people were not talking to each other with ease in the house, Kapil Sharma’s show used to be on television. We used to watch his shows, the re-runs. His shows kept going on and the atmosphere in the house started changing. With his shows, laughter and positivity started returning in the household. By that time my father also started responding to the medicines. And I never knew at that time that I would meet Kapil paaji. I wanted to tattoo his name but never really got it.”

Oye Kunaal, who got the tattoo some time back reveals that he also made his father meet Kapil and that was a big day for him. “Eventually I came to Mumbai but still never actually got it inked. Though the thought was always at the back of my mind. After some time I met Kapil Paaji and developed a good bond. This tattoo is a reminder of the reality of my life. The day I made my father meet Kapil Paaji, I felt as if I have achieved everything in life. It was single happiest moment for me. I also showed the tattoo to Kapil paaji and he was so surprised. This is my way of showing my love and respect for him,” says Oye Kunaal.

So with Children’s Day being celebrated on Saturday (November 14), celebs share their fondest childhood memory, read on:

Savi Thakur: There is one naughty memory of my childhood which I want to share. I went to a park one day, and there was a girl who was eating a bar of chocolate, I asked her to give me a bite, and when she refused I bit her on her cheeks.

Avinash Mukherjee: It was my seventh or eighth birthday, I woke up around 7 p.m. and I was sad as there was no party planned. As a child, you expect gifts on your birthday, and I used to live with my grandparents so when I woke up in the evening, I went for a shower and when I came back I saw all my friends there, my grandparents had planned a surprise birthday for me.

Sucheeta Trivedi: My fondest memory would be going with my father to his mill in Mulund and Byculla. It was a flour mill with the ceiling at a height of 20 feet.

Ajay Singh Chaudhary: My father’s family is from a farming background, so whenever we visited our village we used to do all desi things, like eat ghee, take a bath at the tube well, and play a lot of games, that is my fondest memory.

Akshit Sukhija: During school, we all used to enjoy going for a picnic but waking up in the morning on regular days was something very annoying but on the picnic day I used to wake up happily with a smiling face. And once we were taken to the Parle-G factory. That is my fondest childhood memory.

Ayush Gupta: My fondest memory is whenever my dad stepped out of the house I used to trouble him a lot and would ask him to take me along. I miss that stubborn behaviour.

Oye Kunaal: My fondest memory would be when I went on a school trip to Manali and that was memorable.

Sohail Shaikh: The fondest memory of my childhood is I have a hill near my house so every Sunday I would go there with my brother, and collect items like leaves, stem or any natural and unique things which I found there and then I would make a craft item with all that. I used to make remote control motorboats with all the broken items. I used to make new things from the old ones.

Suraj Kakkar: My fondest memory is staying after school for a long time and exploring the whole school.

Rajshri Rani: I remember during summer vacation I went to Bua’s place and I have two elder brothers there. Once they promised to take me to a park, when we reached the gate they said that won’t take me inside, so I started crying and when I saw a bunch of people, I raised my volume and they started asking me whether I know them or not then I again started crying, then my brothers started to console me. That is my fondest memory.

Rohit Choudhary: I don’t think it’s a fond memory, but it’s an innocent memory. As a kid, I used to stand in line outside a temple near our house to get prasad. But one day my father got to know about it and he scolded us. This memory is very close to me because it reminds me of the innocence of a child.

Pranitaa Pandit: When I was six years old there was a dance performance where I was about to perform Kathak and on the same day I got a bad fever and I thought I cannot do it but somehow my mom really motivated me to dance and I actually ended up dancing with 102 fever, and I did well, it made me feel so good.

Nishant Singh Malkhani: My fondest memory would be playing cricket with my younger brother. I was an overprotective brother, and even if he was out, I would side with him and say he is not.

Saanand Verma: I used to sell books when I was eight years old and used to travel out of Patna for it. When I used to get enough money I used to go to sweet shops and eat lots of sweets. So my fondest memory is eating sweet.

Srishti Jain: Spending summers with my cousins at Nana and Nani’s house is my fondest memory. They would make ice candies, pizza, and everything that we liked and they played board games and cards with us. My Nani makes amazing aam ki barfi. Also one of the fondest memories of my life is when my little sister came into this world! I was 10 and she was the most beautiful baby! Growing up with her was the best part of my childhood!

Kunal Thakkur: My grandfather owned a theatre in Mumbai and he would take me in his lap to watch all the movies first-day first show. The highlight for me would be sitting in the projection room with curious eyes and enjoying the wonders of cinema.

With corona pandemic threat still looming large, the Festival of Lights is expected to arrest it and throw it away. Frankly a lot of television celebrities have vowed not to let Covid-19 dampen their spirits this Diwali. Diwali is almost here, but there is a major fear of Covid-19 which is increasing ever day. People are flocking to markets and visiting their friends and relatives, which is why the numbers of Corona patients have greatly risen in India. Here’s how these actors are ensuring that their Diwali is Covid-free!

Kettan Singh- I will be at home only this Diwali and will spend some quality time with mom. She would be making a few Diwali snacks and dishes. This year, due to Covid-19, there are a lot of norms which we need to follow. I will do a video call with some friends and wish them. I will also be doing Laxmi puja at home with my family. I am happy very that there is a ban on crackers.

Amit Sarin: I will have puja and celebration at home with some friends would be visiting me and vice versa. As social distancing is the order of the day in Los Angeles, where I currently I, I will not be going out much or meeting too many people. I will miss Mumbai ki Diwali and meeting my friends in Mumbai.

Avinash Mukherjee: I have been constantly shooting so I will get an off on Diwali and will spend my time with my parents. We will do puja and follow other rituals. My mom is going to make special food for all of us and I won’t think of my diet on this day. This year, as it is things have been on a low key due to Covid -19, but I have made up my mind of not let my spirits go low due to this disease. I will make sure to enjoy my Diwali.

Urvashi Upadhyay Sharle- I will be driving to Madhya Pradesh with my husband. I am celebrating Diwali with my relatives. It will be a little cold there and so I will enjoy the hot delicacies and food which is the specialty of MP I will also have a lot of poha with namkeens. We are making sure to follow all norms and take all possible precautions to avoid Covid-19. I feel everyone should make sure to follow these so that they can be happy and healthy.

Sucheeta Trivedi- I have been constantly shooting so I will take a holiday on Diwali and will be celebrating the festival with my husband. My show India Wali Maa is doing well. I am very happy about it. I will follow all the rituals of the festival and thank the gods got gracing me with such luck this year. There is a major scare of Covid-19 this year and I am making sure to not go out too much or visit the markets.

Oye Kunaal- I will decorate my house like every year we do. I will spend this Diwali at home and practice my music. Music is something which gives brightness in my life and so I make sure to do this at least for a while on Diwali. This year, due to Covid-19, we are not meeting too many people and my festival will be indoors.

Talking about his friendship with Balraj, Oye Kunaal says, “I know Balraj after he got married to my best friend Deepti Tuli and we developed a very good bond in really less time. He is like a big brother to me. He is a very good man and has seen a lot of struggles in life. He has reached great heights based on his own hard work, He is a great human being and very serious about work. He really motivates me,” says Kunaal.

The singer goes on to reveal that the two have joined hands for a project. “I got to learn from him that work is worship and timing is very important. We have shot a music video where Balraj paaji and I have sung together,” he says and reveals an interesting story behind the music video, “When Balraj ji got married to Deepti, I asked the photographer to click some shots which could help us. Deepti and I had it in the back of our mind that we could use the content but Balraj didn’t know. So, when the song got ready, we used the same footage and he was so surprised,” he says.

Oye Kunaal’s new track Uss Gali is sure to heal broken hearts

Singer Oye Kunaal is all set to release his latest track Uss Gali. The melodious song, which talks about the sadness which enters the life of two lovers, is sure to soothe the hearts of all music lovers. The song also features renowned model Charvi Dutta in the track, who stars opposite Kunaal.

Talking about the song, Oye Kunaal says, “Uss Gali is a sad song. We shot this at a farmhouse, which is a little ahead of Chandigarh. The farmhouse is situated in a nice area with mountains and valleys and it suited the track of our song.”

The song was shot amid the ongoing pandemic therefore the cast and crew needed to take necessary precautions. “We shot the song with a lot of precautions. We had a booth installed at the entry which would sanitize everyone who entered, we did regular temperature checks. No one was allowed to be there without the masks. Only the actors took the mask off when they were giving the shot,” shares Oye Kunaal.

The song is produced and written by Rishabh Puri, while it is composed and sung by Oye Kunaal. Uss Gali also features a well-known model and actor Charvi Dutta.

Talking about how Charvi came on board, Oye Kunaal says, “I had seen Charvi in Maninder Buttar’s song Ik Tera and really liked her presence in the track. I and my team felt that she would fit in perfectly for this track. When we approached her, she too liked the song and was on board immediately.”

Tele-actors indulge in Diwali ‘Saaf-Safai’

Even as this year’s Diwali is pandemic infected, the spirt of the tele-actors is high and many have started the clean up job. However, this year due to Covid, this has become tough as a lot of people have no external help even for housework. Actors tell us how they plan to complete this task this year. Arun Mandola: I am Delhi boy and we North Indians are crazy about Diwali. Diwali is one of my favourite festivals and already I have started Diwali cleaning. Generally, I love cleaning my house and Diwali cleaning makes me very nostalgic. During my childhood, my father and I always used to clean our house together. But from many years, I am in Mumbai, and the atmosphere here is different. This year, I am not calling anyone for my help because of the pandemic. My tips to my fans are if you clean your house a little bit every day then you can finish cleaning the entire place till Diwali.

Prakriti Nautiyal: The situation due to the Covid-19 outbreak has made things quite challenging. Luckily, our society has permitted us to call our house help for work. Regular temperature checks, masks and all other sanitization is done, keeping all the necessary precautions in mind. My Diwali cleaning has already begun as it was much needed. I have 5 cats so I have to be sure that all the fur from the nooks and corners are cleaned out. I am also making sure this Diwali to also give away a lot of stuff. I think we all need to do this during this year’s Diwali cleaning. Anything that can be repurposed be it footwear, cosmetics, clothes, bags that are not serving you personally, I urge you to not discard them, instead give it to someone who can use it. Even torn clothes can be made into quilts for our stray animals as winters are just around the corner. This way, our home becomes clutter-free and nothing is wasted at the same time.

Vijayendra Kumeria: Our house helps stay with us so it’s a great relief for us. But Diwali cleaning is an extra chore and you need external help for it for sure. But this year, it’s not safe to get help from outside. So we all will help each other in this cleaning task and will do it together. My tip to everyone one is just divide the whole cleaning process into different days, instead of cleaning the whole house in one go… pick one room at a time and clean it for two hours a day. This would be easy for sure.

Rajshri Rani: Due to the pandemic, there is no external help. There is no servant or staff to help out. But, on the other hand, it’s good also as you get to know about your cleaning strengths. There are no tricks for cleaning because it’s not science or maths. It’s really simple, take a dry cloth and a wet cloth aur ho jao shuru!

Prateek Rana: Diwali cleaning is my favourite part of the festival. I love to clean my place. My family and I will be cleaning the house together. We will buy new things for our home. The cleaning has been started and we are planning to paint our home this Diwali by ourselves. Many of us are aware of the belief that Goddess Lakshmi will grace a clean and nicely decorated home with wealth and fortune. So, in our home and in many parts of India it is a ritual to clean the house and deck it up with lights and flowers. It is important to dispose of unwanted and unused materials from your home.

Ajay Singh Chaudhary: Diwali cleaning has been started. We have one live-in house help, so it is not that big of an issue. But we also have a child, so we all have to pitch in. Some time back, our househelp was not with us, she was in her hometown. Those three-four months taught us a lesson. During my childhood, I used to help my mother in household chores. I belong to a very middle-class family and we used to do all our work by ourselves

Oye Kunaal: Diwali cleaning is not too much work this year as because of Covid-19, we are cleaning the house every day. We will decorate our house to create a positive vibe. I always celebrate Diwali in my hometown but this year my plan is to celebrate Diwali with my house help. I really appreciate my house help, my building guards and all and so I will celebrate this year with them. I am done with the cleaning for the year. I urge everyone to be safe and share your Diwali with your loved ones, spread positivity. Due to this Covid-19, many negative things have come up and it is important to spread positivity.

Delnaaz Irani: My Diwali cleaning happens before Dusshera and so we have been blessed with 24/7 house help. I have a maid too so I don’t think I would have a problem this year. Diwali cleaning is definitely very time consuming and you definitely need help. We have almost finished. When the building allowed for us to get our maids back, I started calling my house help. I also have a live in servant. This time is also about letting the mind, body and soul be refreshed with a positive attitude. Let’s not think that this year was bad as we have all gone through this together. Don’t stress out if you don’t have help and cannot clean. Please beautify the house by lighting diyas. It’s important to not stress out just because Diwali cleaning is to be done.

Rohit Choudhary: By the grace of God, I have house help. Most of the people I know have no help and are doing everything on their own. I want every house to have food on Diwali. I want everyone to light diyas and celebrate. I am trying to help my family members with household chores even though I have house help. We have started cleaning and decorating our house and I want that not only me, everyone should have a great Diwali.

Pranitaa Pandit: Thanks to Covid-19, I think our Diwali cleaning started long back as the whole year we have been cleaning and trying to maintain hygiene. This year, we will be not celebrating in a big. We will be doing a little Pooja at our place with only our family members. We are not going out this year and playing cards, nor are we doing anything extra. This is going to very special Diwali for all of us as we will be with our family members. I have been blessed with proper house help throughout this Covid-19 time and so Diwali cleaning has not been an issue.

Aneesha Madhok: I believe that we should clean our houses every Diwali. As the tradition goes we clean our houses, light Diyas so that the goddess of money, Lakshmi comes. I think we should focus on cleaning the environment as well as cleaning our minds of all materialistic things that we have been focusing on.

Singer-composer Oye Kunaal’s original name happens to be Kunaal Sodhi

Even before you get down to hear, and eventually love, his music, it is singer-composer Oye Kunaal’s name which fascinates you! Originally known as Kunaal Sodhi, the artist, who is known for his numbers Aaj Tera Mera Saath Hai, Hanjua Di Tha, Shukar Kar, Waqt, Yaad Teri Ayi, and Patola, added an ‘Oye’ to it, a year back.

“My friend circle consists of people older than me, they are all reputed people. Whenever we had to go anywhere, they would be like ‘Oye Kunaal’ and follow it with whatever they wanted to say, like ‘Oye Kunaal, when did you come?’. This appealed to me. This was when I added an ‘Oye’ to my name. And everyone has asked me about it. Whatever work I have done, I have used this name. People have accepted this name well,” he says.

Kunaal’s last music video was Hanjua Di Tha, with T-series. “We shot it in Goa. I have another song coming called Uss Gali. I have featured in it and it has my music as well. It will release this month,” he says.

With quite a good number of songs to his credit, he also shared that though he was passionate about singing, music production was never on his mind.

“As a child, I always wanted to become a singer. And when I entered Dayanand Model School, Jalandhar, it was quite famous for Youth Festivals, so that gave me a push. We had a good music scene there. Later a friend of mine gave me a software for music. I did not bother opening it for a couple of months, but then I started investing my time in learning the know-how and the technicalities and made a song. I uploaded Hanjua Di Tha song on a website and got a good response for it. In fact, the song got over a million downloads, so that’s how I got into music production. As I mentioned earlier, the song has been made into a music video by T-Series recently,” he says.

“I am not a trained singer, and whatever I have learned it is on my own. But I would like to mention that Yo Yo Honey Singh is my favourite singer and he is also my inspiration,” he adds.

Ask him if acting is on the charts, and he says, “The company that I am associated with HSR Entertainment, owned by Rishabh Puri, is training us first and then they will think about acting. Right now, they are making music videos to make an identity for me so that people know who I am. We will soon be shooting a music video for a song of mine for the album ANTIDOTE. The song is also called Antidote and we made it during the lockdown. It got viral on TikTok as well.”
