Pankaj Udhas was born on 17th May 1951 in a musical family. His brothers Nirmal and Manhar were also singers and Pankaj after completing studies moved to singing. Initially he was interested in Tabla but later he was trained in classical singing. He debuted Bollywood singing with a movie, Kamna, but he tasted huge success with his ghazal ‘Chitthi Aayi Hai….’ from ‘Naam’. He shifted his focus to Ghazal singing and released 50+ albums including Aahat, Nasha, Ghunghat, Aashiyana etc.

Pankaj Udhas was awarded Padmashri in 2006. His last rites will be held on Tuesday 27th February. He is survived by wife Farida, daughters Nayab and Reva Udhas.

Bringing the euphoria back to the stage, the ‘velvet voice of India’, Pankaj Udhas is performing at the Dubai World Trade Centre on the 6th of May and the melodious queen Shreya Ghoshal is performing at the Coca-Cola Arena on the 7th of May 2022.

As part of Eid celebrations, the special concerts, organized by entertainment & management company Blu Blood in association with Eid in Dubai, will take the UAE audience on a musical journey down memory lane.

The concerts are a celebration of brilliant music and will definitely be a great way for the audiences to unwind and connect with music lovers, especially after two years of pandemic disruption in the world.

Talking about the event, the most acclaimed artist Pankaj Udhas stated, “I am looking forward to performing for the Dubai audiences in this holy month of Eid, and what better way to celebrate it than with music. Music brings people together and I cannot wait to bring some euphoria to my audience.” The iconic singer who reigned the Ghazal scene for decades and also made waves with playback singing in Bollywood will be seen crooning nostalgic renditions of ghazals and serenade audiences with a selection of all-time golden oldies and film songs that have become household favorites such as Chandi Jaisa Rang Hai Tera, Aur Aahista, Aur Is Tarah Kijiye Batein, Jeeye To Jeeye Kaise as well as the ever-popular, Chitthi Aayee Hai, which still brings tears to every music lovers’ eyes.

Expressing excitement for the concert, the popular Bollywood singer Shreya Ghoshal shared, “Coincidentally I am completing twenty years in Bollywood, and what a beautiful way to celebrate my journey with my fans. UAE audiences have always been warm towards me and I love to bring some joy to them through my performance.” Dubai fans can expect a scintillating and energetic performance from the popular Bollywood songstress. With a beautiful versatile vocal range, Shreya will enthrall fans with her popular hits including Teri Meri, Param Sundari, Chikni Chameli, and Dola re Dola to name a few.

Jehangir Art Gallery’s Samovar was another favourite hangout and they still remember the cuisine. “Our Kala Ghoda festival started in 1972,” reasons Pankaj Udhas. Unfortunately Rhythm House and Samovar don’t exist any more. Kavita Krishnamurti speaks of her senior Pankaj Udhas and how they all looked up to him at college. “He has seen super stardom but it has never gone to his head. It is so difficult to become a star singing ghazals and it is an uphill task.”

Pankaj Udhas talks of the big college gang that used to sit below the trees and eat food from the tin roof canteen. “I was No. 1 in terms of bunking. I was a Science student, required 24×7 in class. My Botany Department would overlook canteen. My HOD Mr. Bhole used to see me laughing and the peon used to be sent to call me up,” he laughs.

Kavita Krishnamurti speaks, “Farooq Sheikh was part of our college. One day he saw me with a long face. I told him my attendance is less as I do a lot of jingles and programmes, and had to bunk, but only for music. He spoke to the Principal and helped me. In my third year, he took sessions for me and helped me tide through. It was so nice of him,” she recalls.

Pankaj Udhas talks of how the dreamers who were part of Sangeet Mandal and Natya Mandal, used to dream together. “Right from Anuradha Paudwal nee Alka Nadkarni, Kavita Krishnamurti, Nitin Ghat, Priti Moti Sagar Ranu Mukherjee (Hemant Kumar’s daughter), Natya Mandal had Farooq Sheikh, Smita Patil, Satish Shah who used to oscillate between Natya Mandal and Sangeet Mandal, Dalip Tahil, Shabana Azmi were senior to us, Anil Kapoor was junior to us… We all owe our encouragement to St. Xavier’s,” he recalls.

The duo also sang some amazing songs, keeping alive the joy of music that transported them in time. “St. Xavier’s has positive vibes that helped us all tide us through,” expresses Kavita Krishnamurti.
